For more information, call Carolyn Hale at Dear Church Family, From Our Pastor Although congregations physically exist and serve in one particular place, perhaps in a brick and mortar building, they are supposed to be spiritually moving forward. With that in mind, another milestone has been erected on the journey for the congregation of First Baptist, Bay City. Milestones are necessary to know where you are at any given time. The word journey implies movement, travel. All congregations should be on a journey. Tragically, some stop moving somewhere along the way. So, as has been stated often in the last several weeks, our response to God s message in the Radical curriculum has become a milestone on our journey. (Remember: Radical is a Southern Baptist resource produced by our publishing house Lifeway). As with any significant experience considered a milestone for any family, the different family members refer to the milestone from different perspectives. But, all the family members can point to the milestone. I hope your experience with the Radical milestone will be a good one, one that helps you know where you are on the journey of following the Lord. Have you heard the popular saying: a rising tide lifts all boats? It is my prayer that the Radical Challenge will be like the proverbial (and sometimes literal) rising tide that lifts your boat. Mike will be preaching messages each Sunday from one of the texts of that week) icommit your total family budget for the purpose of glorifying God. For the next year make specific decisions that result in gaining financial freedom to give more for the sake of the glory of Christ in His church, among the lost and among the poor. ispend time serving the Lord outside your established routine and familiar surroundings. Commit to give of your time in Gospel ministry outside of your routine; your comfort zone. This might be a local ministry project, a church ministry to which you have never served, or it could be a mission trip away. icommit yourself wholeheartedly to the church. Take a really close look at your church involvement to see if there is room to deepen or strengthen your connection with the church. 3 Radical Together by David Platt High atop the Andes Mountains, the rays of the sun strike ice, and a single drop of water forms. It begins to trace a hesitant course downward, gradually joining with other drops of water to become a steady stream. The stream gains speed and strength what were single drops of water have converged to become the mightiest river on earth: the Amazon The force of a single drop of water descending the Andes is minuscule. Similarly, as long as individual Christians journey alone no matter how radical they are their effect will be minimal. But if men and women together in churches are committed to the purpose of Christ, then nothing can stop the spread of the gospel to the ends of the earth. In Radical Together, I want to consider what happens or can happen when we apply the revolutionary claims and commands of Christ to our communities of faith. I want to contemplate the force of a people who come together to enjoy God s grace in the church while they extend God s glory in the world. And I want to propose that a movement of such people in such churches has the potential to permeate nations with the praise of God.
