1 Spirit Song From the Pastor Although our vacation required more than 3,000 miles of driving, we came back with our souls and mind refreshed our souls and minds. God gave us an encouragement through this trip. We really felt God was cheering us up. If you asked us to pick top 3 most inspiring moments of this trip to Nova Scotia, here they are: #1-Sightseeing of Cabot Trail s wonderful panorama view; #2-Listening to Audio Bible while driving; #3- Watching the musical, Anne of Green Gable. Speaking of Anne of Green Gable, most of you might know how the story goes: Matthew and Marilla Cuthberts, unmarried siblings decide to adopt an orphan boy to help out their work around the farm in Prince Edward Island. But when Matthew arrives at the train station finds a girl orphan instead of a boy; the orphanage sent the eleven-year-old Anne Shirley by mistake. Matthew, nevertheless, graciously brought Anne to home. Anne s talkativeness and spirit charm Matthew who is very shy and quiet, persuades finally Marilla s hesitance to welcome and accept Anne as a new family member. You know the rest of the story. During the musical, my full attention was caught not by Anne Shirley who was the main character, but to Matthew Cuthberts who keeps showing his grace and encouragement toward Anne who could have lived her life as an orphan. Through Matthew s heart, I saw our God, the Father s love. Matthew s gentle love and encouraging spirit changed Anne s life. In the Bible, there is Matthew-like person whom the apostles called Barnabas son of encouragement. One wonders if Paul would have made it without Barnabas. Although Paul became a converted Christian in Damascus, the Lord s disciples still feared to accept Paul into their fellowship due to his notorious past. But Barnabas was the one who embraced Paul and took him to the apostles. Barnabas s act of encouragement provided a necessary link between Paul and the fulfillment of his calling. You see, encouraging words and action can change someone s life. Let s be an encourager like Barnabas and Matthew! Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing (1 Thessalonians 5:11). Amen. In Christ, Your Servant, Pastor Tae Sung

2 United Methodist Women To all women of the church The United Methodist Women will have a mini retreat on August 16th from 10:00 am 2:00 pm at Norcross wildlife sanctuary in Wales, MA Bring: Your walking shoes Water Bible Lunch Retreat (some definitions): Nouns- a safe refuge; a place of asylum; a shelter; a haven; a sanctuary; holy of holies. Verbs- to return to the beginning from which we started, to go back. We will gather together to celebrate our god, whose spirit pervaded and whose glory is manifested in creation. All life as we know it exists within the refuge of our earthly home. Every living creature, including earth itself, shares the chemistry of life. Everything is made of the same stuff. Our earth itself is regenerative and living holy ground. And God said to Moses, Take off your shoes. This ground you re standing on is holy ground WOW! What a world God created! Bring a favorite poem, song, hymn, bible verse, vision or memory that celebrates the natural world, the world that god made for us to live in and honor. We ll eat together, share, meditate and reflect on the power and beauty that surrounds and sustains us. Please mark this date on your calendar and join us on our mini retreat. We will carpool from the church. Meet at 9:00 am. Calendars The UMW is starting to work on our Community Calendar for If you are not on the calendar for your loved ones birthdays, anniversaries, or memorials and would like to be included, please see Nancy Rand or Sandy Dam. We have been doing this fund raiser for at least 60 years if not more We do not want to exclude anyone. So please contact us so we can include you on the Calendar. The price remains the same. Thank You for Recycling Print Cartridges $3.00 for the calendar and.25 for each listing. We were able to recycle 20 cartridges this month earning us $40 in rewards. This will buy us two large boxes of paper for our bulletin s, lesson plans and other items. Keep them coming!

3 Christianality Fest 2014 Thank you one and all for making our Summer Music Festival another great success. The core Festival Team of Amy J., John H., Jim B., Sierra E., Kevin H. and Nancy Rand started detail planning in January and by June were assisted by dozens of church members and friends of the church to execute an outstanding event. We are compiling survey card information and observations from this Festival and have already started our thought process for next year. Last year the Festival drew about 150 people and this year we maintained a crowd of about 250 and with comings and goings had over 300 enjoy the good weather, music, food and fun thank you God. If you would like to be part of next year s planning team or have ideas on groups or activities just let one of the core team know and you or your ideas will be included in the planning. Thanks to the generous donations of sponsors and donors we were able to construct a portable stage that should serve us for years to come. I hope to see you all and your friends at next year s Festival - keep the second weekend in July open. Remember the goal of the Festival is simple: I you have God in your life, we hope the Festival will enrich that relationship. If God is not in your life, we hope this event will let you see God in a different way that opens your heart to allow God into your life. 4 Mission Outreach All Church Yard Sale A Resounding Success Due to the enormous amount of planning and hard labor of Nancy Russell and cohorts the CCUMC yard sale, electronic recycle event and car wash was an amazingly FUN event! And wow-did we unload a lot of treasures and made some serious money in exchange! THANK YOU everyone who participated and especially Nancy who has such a GREAT eye for the detail and successful sale of hodge-podge! Community Café Serving Family Luncheons For All Ages Join a dozen or more gathered for a simple family meal at noon, on the last Saturday of every month. Help the mission team to set up, serve and/or clean up! We are there from 11 to 1:30 and love to have an extra set of helping hands so we can sit and have a cup of tea or coffee and share a meal with our guests. The food is great and the company even better. Join us won t you? Friends and family are welcome in Fellowship hall. METHODIST ICE CREAM! Last year Old Home Day was a wash out! But this year we are planning for better weather conditions! CCUMC will be setting up our Ice Cream booth and mini-golf game at the Charlton Town Common for our community s fantastic, family friendly event. WE NEED HELPERS!!! This year our dear Amy Jette and family cannot be there to help us so please, the Mission/Outreach Team needs about 25 helpers to prep, serve and clean up. Setting up the tent and game August 31 Sunday at 3pm at the Charlton Town Common-takes about 1 hour, and then starting at 6:30am Sept. 1, Monday morning (Labor Day) we meet at the church to load the freezer, tables, chairs and other needed equipment,+ ice cream to take to the Common so we can be out of the way and ready for business. Previous years we have served about people ice cream so you see we really, really need you! Clean up takes about 90 minutes at the end of the day. See Marilyn Gerrard and bring your favorite ice cream scoop! Socks for the homeless Thank you for your generous sock donations for the Worcester Fellowship, Linda was able to take in a substantial amount of new socks to help the homeless. Keep em coming!

5 Jesus calling fishers of men-bring hammers and tape measures.. faith in action August 3 rd, Sunday morning, the Next Step Mission trip to East Rockaway NY departs at 10 am for a week of construction to restore homes and rebuild hope in a working class neighborhood in Long Island, New York 21 months after Hurricane Sandy destroyed homes and apartments. Join us as we pray for our 14 church members as they leave for a work of labor and love. The following persons are our missionaries: Ruth Anderson, Linda Ditomasso, Melissa Porter, John Kelly, Brian Gerrard, Lance Harms, Kayleigh Blanchard, Katarina Kye, Dan Kelly, Leena Pariseau, Dan Blanchard, Julianna Boyson, Julie Kye, and Madison Porter. Pray for their spiritual growth as they witness for Jesus, and physical safety as they work with construction tools! Jesus the master carpenter never had such good tools! Thank you everyone who responded so generously to bring tools for our missionaries to take to Long Island for the mission trip! Your amazing generosity makes Him so happy!! Our tool box is full and our hearts are overflowing!!! Food Pantry Donations Needed Imagine a world with no hunger and you helped. It is entirely in our power to help our families here in Charlton get enough food, each time you go to the grocery store think about buying an extra box of crackers or cereal or even a more substantial NON-PERISHABLE food item. Think about a young family or older person struggling to stretch that thin food dollar to buy their ham for a sandwich, cheese or even milk. They can use their last few dollars to buy something we can t stock in our food pantry. PLANT SEEDS OF HOPE AND LOVE IN A WORLD SHORT ON BOTH POINTING TO OUR RISEN SAVIOR AS A POWERFUL MESSAGE OF PEACE IN A BIG BAD WORLD!

6 Sunday School I can t believe that the summer is almost over. In just 4 ½ weeks the kids go back to school and you parents will be dancing in the streets (maybe). Vacation Bible School will be July 28th through the 31st. We will be learning how God created many different creatures and loves them all. We are all different and need to learn to love everyone just like God loves all his creations. Hope you will join us for VBS and maybe invite a neighbor or relative to come. If you can t make it come to the Sunday service on August 3rd to learn what we will have learned. Sunday School will start September 7th. Do you know someone that hasn t come in awhile? Maybe you know someone looking for a church for not only themselves but for their children. Maybe a relative? Let s invite them to Sunday school and see what s new. Let s build our church from the foundation up. We are also in need of teachers this fall. Won t you consider helping us and inspire our future?
