1 2017/2018 Dawson Creek Alliance Church th Street Dawson Creek, BC V1G 4T1 Welcome to the Alliance Youth Ministry! My name is Pastor Steve Roszmann. This fall is the start of my 3 rd year with the youth ministry at the Dawson Creek Alliance Church. My hope for this next year, along with many great youth leaders, is to develop a culture of secure consistent relationships. We, as a team, greatly value Relationships, and hope to relay that value into the youth as we also teach about other values, specifically: Respect, Truth, and Servanthood. We are a Christian youth group, so we will be teaching these values from a biblical perspective. Our mission being, To teach the gospel and equip those who believe to become disciple-making followers of Jesus. Following Jesus is a choice for each individual and cannot, and will not be forced upon anyone. However, we believe it is our responsibility to share this message of hope so everyone has the opportunity to make that choice. If it is something you or your child disagrees with, we hope he/she continues to participate for the experiences, fun, secure relationships/mentorship, and support during their teenage years. 2 Weekly Events Youth Group (Sept-May) Junior (Grades 7-9) Tuesday Nights Senior (Grades 10-12) Wednesday Nights During the school year, we run a weekly program for students grade We run it on two nights, splitting the grades between 7-9 (Junior) and (Senior). The night starts at 7:00pm and ends at 9:00pm. Every night includes a game, snack, talk, and small groups. Primarily, we aim to teach everyone about Jesus and how to live a Christ-like lifestyle. We also aim to have fun together, and be real in regular small groups by sharing about life and its ups and downs. Once a month we like to have Small Group Nights (SGN), where each small group from youth will have an event together. Some of the activities that we had last year were: Campfires, Baking, Paintballing, Swimming, Movie nights, and Game nights. We value relationships and would like to provide times where we can develop them outside of regular youth group events. The snack for the night is provided by volunteers, and there will be a snack schedule sent out to you in hopes that you will be willing to provide a snack a few times throughout the school year. Youth Alpha Film Series (June-Aug) (Grades 7-12) During the summer months, we like to take a break from regular youth group and run the Youth Alpha Film Series. This program is usually around 8-10 weeks with a retreat on one of the weekends (Please see Events page for information about the Alpha Retreat). Each night includes: a meal, short video, discussion, and a time to hang-out. This is a great time to come out and voice your questions about life, purpose, faith, and God. Our goal is to provide room for everyone to share openly about what they believe, in a safe environment.

3 Major Events Mattress Run (Sept 8) The Mattress Run is going to be our kickoff event for the youth ministry in the fall. This will be a City-Wide Youth Event where youth organizations throughout Dawson Creek are coming together to provide an exciting and entertaining event for the youth of Dawson Creek. Cost: $10.00 Water Balloon Mania (Sept 15) As a youth group, we have not gone to Water Balloon Mania for several years. It is an annual event put on by Peace River Bible Institute for free! It is a massive water balloon, capture the flag game run throughout the PRBI campus. Following the game there will be snacks, worship, and a speaker to conclude the evening. It starts at 6:00pm and goes until 8:30pm. Cost: $20.00 (Travel costs) Pushing the Limit (Sept 29-Oct. 1) *Junior Youth Only Every year Camp Sagitawa puts on a Junior high camp in the fall. This will be the first year that we will be participating in this camp. It will be a great opportunity to develop community at the beginning of the year through camp activities like: Archery, Kayaking, Field games, Cabin talks, and more. Cost: $90.00 (Excluding transportation) Disturbing the Peace (Oct ) *Senior Youth Only The Grande Prairie Youth Ministerial team has developed an annual event called Disturbing the Peace, which is held at the Grande Prairie Alliance Church. This has been happening for many years, and has brought in some big-name bands and speakers. Last year, they hosted the band West of Here and Ben Woodman was their speaker. Cost: Early Bird $140.00, After Oct. 2 nd $ Christmas Banquet (Dec. 15) This year, we would like to celebrate Christmas together with a good ol fashioned Christmas banquet. It will be a formal dinner for the youth to dress up and enjoy a fancy meal together. Cost: $30.00 Ski Trip (Jan 20) What better way to beat the winter blues than a ski trip to Whispering Pines in Worsley, AB! I will be sending out more information about this event and if we plan on going over night again. Cost: $65.00 eview Peace River Bible Institute (March 8-10) *Senior Youth Only PRBI is a Bible College located in Sexsmith, AB. Every year they hold an event where students in grades can live on campus and attend classes to experience a bit of what college life is like. Cost: $20.00 (Travel Costs) Legacy Youth Conference (March T entatively) *Senior Youth Only LYC is hosted by Ambrose University, in Calgary AB. Those who attend will get to explore the Ambrose campus as they receive great teaching from the various seminars available. You can expect: inspired worship, solid Bible preaching, engaging challenge for life change, good food, great laughs, tremendous people (like you). Cost: $250.00

4 YC Sold Out (May 19-21) The Dawson Creek Alliance Church has been sending youth to YC for over a decade, and for good reason! Every year, youth continue to go for the world-class bands and speakers, and for the chance to attend a positive event with their friends. The event is held in Red Deer at the Enmax Centurium, and will continue to be a highlight for the youth who attend. Must have $100 deposit by Sept. 27 th Cost: $ Family Camp (July 13-15) Every year, the Dawson Creek Alliance Church rents Camp Sagitawa for the second weekend of July. It is a great time for our church body to get away together and experience a life in a more intimate way, through eating together, playing games, lounging in the sun, climbing the hill, swimming, and having great conversations by the fire. Whoever attends our youth group is considered a part of our church body, and is more than welcome to join everyone for the weekend, along with your whole family. Cost: $55.00 DemoCrew (July Tentatively) We had the privilege of getting a glimpse into what DemoCrew is like this past summer. Those who went had their worldviews challenged and their heartstrings pulled as they were faced with the issue of homelessness. DemoCrew is an exciting, inner-city street experience for students. The immersive program provides students with a deeper understanding of poverty and homelessness, and opportunities to serve at The Mustard Seed. Through experiential learning, workshops, devotions, and service opportunities, students are encouraged to think critically about social issues, and they are challenged to consider what Christ-centered responses to these issues look like today. Cost: $ Youth Alpha Retreat (July Tentatively) For the past two summers, we have run through the Youth Alpha Film Series, which is a weekly event for around 8-10 weeks. Along with the series we have a weekend retreat away, which has been out at Swan Lake for the past couple years. The retreats are wonderful as they allow for youth to develop closer relationships together, be personal with their questions, be more open in a comfortable setting, and be able to stay up obscenely late playing the Farming Game. Cost: $30.00 All prices are estimates and are subject to change as we approach the dates of the event.

5 Fundraising Our goal is to have fundraisers going on throughout the whole year. The money raised will not always be designated for a specific event, but will always be used for a youth trip. For example, one student could raise money raking gravel off lawns in June to raise money for a trip of their choice, perhaps YC, which would be in May the following year, or for DemoCrew which could be right away in July. Money raised by a student will only be usable by that student, and will be held in a trust account up until that student graduates and is no longer able to be a part of the youth group. A student would have the ability to raise money slowly this year and next year to be able to go on a youth trip in 2020, provided they are still in grade school. We are planning a variety of youth trips this year: a mission s trip, conferences, retreats, and random fun outings. Students will only be able to use fundraised money for some of the trips and events. Events students can use fundraised money for: Events students cannot use fundraised money for: Water Balloon Mania Pushing the Limit Disturbing the Peace eview Legacy Youth Conference YC Sold Out DemoCrew Alpha Retreat Mattress Run Christmas Banquet Ski Trip Family Camp List of Fundraisers: Fundscrip Fundscrip is a continuous fundraiser that is selling gift cards. Whatever cards are sold, the youth will receive a percentage of the amount sold. For example, if a student sells a No Frills gift card for $100.00, they would receive 3% for the grocery card and earn 3 dollars. If the student sells a $50.00 at either Boston Pizza, or Mr. Mikes (which are both at 5%), the student will receive $2.50 for one of those cards. These are small amounts, but if you and/or some family members commit to buying half or one quarter of their groceries with gift cards every month, that would raise at least $90.00 per year, per family. Orders can be made by individuals, and at times of the year we will be doing group orders which saves a bit of extra money. For more information about ordering, please visit our church website.

6 Raking Gravel In the spring, the City of Dawson Creek hires groups to rake the gravel that has piled up over the winter off elderly people s lawns and onto the street to be swept up. This past spring, we raised a total of $880.00, so there is a lot of money up for grabs for whoever helps. Recycling People continuously drop off recycling at the church and occasionally youth can help sort it and keep whatever came in that day. Dates for sorting will be sporadic. Firewood This fundraiser has been our most successful in past years, but we will need more volunteers if we want to keep this fundraiser. In the past couple years, KP Logging has generously donated dried out logs for the youth to come out, split, and deliver to various buyers. $1, was raised this last year, and more could have been raised, but not enough youth attended, and some of the last loads had to be finished by other volunteers. If you wish to be a part of this fundraiser, please let us know and give us a way to communicate with you, as there is usually a short window of time to complete it all. Car Wash We hope to add a car wash to our list of fundraisers this year. Please stay tuned as we gain more information about it.
