1 WHERE CAN I START SERVING AT CBC? SUNDAY MORNING MINISTRIES REFRESHMENTS (Ministry Leader: Lisa Mark) Someone who likes food - either buying, preparing, serving or eating food Buy or prepare a favorite snack or two Help set up refreshment table, stand behind table and serve if needed Clean up after (wash and put away any church dishes used, table clothes and tables) Individuals are scheduled approximately once every 5 to 6 months Can choose to serve with the same person or be scheduled with random people Can choose to just provide refreshments, or to just help serve Drop off your refreshments before service, leave service a few minutes early to set up Stay until everything has been cleaned up. No Refreshments give everyone an opportunity for fellowship, whether it's catching up with people you've known all your life, or meeting a new friend... everything is better with a yummy snack! WELCOMING MINISTRY This is a potential new ministry that is open to leadership and development Friendly, warm, enjoys people, good communicator Possibilities include: Stand at a Welcome or Information Table on Sundays to greet and give information Facilitate a Welcome Class once every month (or every 2-3 months) to meet newcomers and introduce them to our church Depends on availability and number of volunteers Not at this time We have the opportunity every Sunday to reach out to guests who are open to hearing the gospel and trusting God more. If we welcome them and incorporate them into the church family, we help them grow and the church grows. 1
2 GREETERS (Ministry Leader: Paul & Vicki Shinto) Warm, welcoming, smiles, makes eye contact or anyone that wants to try! Stand at either entrance to the sanctuary to greet people and give them a bulletin Smile and greet people, saying, Good morning, how are you? Or Hi, welcome Take a count of how many people are in sanctuary and CE building. Arrive at least 20 minutes before service starts and stay during service Serve one Sunday every 6-8 weeks (depending on available people, or by request) You might be the first person someone meets look cheerful and friendly! Try not to get distracted by other people and things going on. We make the church family feel welcome and glad they came, and we give a first impression of our church to our guests. Being warm and friendly encourages them to return and to spread the same feeling to others. We have the ability to set the tone. USHERS (Ministry Leader: Paul & Vicki Shinto) Welcoming, alert, attentive to what people need, able to direct and guide people Smile and greet people, saying good morning or welcome Close and open doors to allow people to enter and exit. Help people find a seat as needed, especially after the service has begun and when the sanctuary seems full Collect tithes and offerings Arrive at least 20 minutes before service starts and stay during service Serve one Sunday every 6-8 weeks Be attentive to what s going on and respond to needs that arise Occasionally special situations arise (medical, security, intruders, crying babies, etc.). Be able to respond to needs, give directions, and alert a pastor or leader as needed Our presence helps people to feel welcome, comfortable, and safe. We give attention to the needs of our guests and church family, assist them in a kind and welcoming manner, and help set the tone for the service. 2
3 SUNDAY AM SET-UP (Ministry Leader: Calvert Joe) Someone who likes to serve quietly, faithfully, and finds joy in doing the simple tasks. A person who prefers mornings. Straighten chairs in the sanctuary, open doors at entrances, set up tables in the patio area, open the gate for parking at the school, set up the recording for the message. Sunday mornings, 7:45am to 8:45am unless there is one service Be efficient and flexible. Be open to requests to help set up another ministry s event that same morning. We are preparing the Lord s House to be a welcoming place and a blessing for all to come worship and fellowship. COMMUNION SET-UP (Ministry Leader: Yvonne Wei and Sara Kiwas) What kind of person would fit in this ministry? Organized, clean, efficient with time Good at decorating a tabletop Purchase the grape juice Prepare Lord s Table (2 tables) - cloth, cups, crackers, cross, other decorations Replenish between services, and clean up after second service Usually on the first Sunday of every month Set up at 8:20 am, and replenish between services at 10:30 am (takes 5 mins) Clean up after second service at12:30 pm (takes mins) Require some lifting of heavy boxes (which contains the bowls, crosses, cloths) Communion provides a time and space to worship and reflect on what Jesus did on the Cross, and where we stand with God. Setting up the Lord s Table with care and attention demonstrates our devotion to the Lord and that He deserves the best. 3
4 POWERPOINT (Ministry Leader: Chris Yao) Comfortable with a PC and PowerPoint Good concentration; patient, adaptable (plan changes, technical difficulties, etc.) Show sermon and worship slides. Correct mistakes as necessary. Once every month or two - serve during 1 st or 2 nd service (not both) 1 st service: Arrive 20 minutes early to power up computer and projectors and pull up PPT and worship slides. Read over sermon notes to get familiar with timing. Correct spelling on worship slides, or incorrect words (grace vs grave; slave vs save, etc) 2 nd service arrive 10 minutes early to get familiar with sermon notes. Christmas service rehearsal the Saturday before, for a couple hours in the morning Be flexible and able to go with the spirit when a leader deviates from the plan PowerPoint slides help people retain information and engage with the sermon. They provide visuals that guide and enrich our worship and learning experiences. SOUND Loves to worship and listen to worship music Has a good ear for music and pays attention to detail Is willing to learn and respond to feedback Set up stage (microphones, speakers, instrument cables, etc.) before team practices Operate the sound board during worship service balance the instruments/vocals so the worship music sounds the way it s supposed to Operate the lighting board during worship services adjust the lighting to create the appropriate tone for each service element One Sunday every month, for both services Attend Saturday practices (the day before scheduled Sunday) Attend semi-regular (every six months or so) worship ministry gatherings/trainings Even though most people aren t aware of the impact of sound and lights, our experience of worship is greatly affected by it. The sermon and worship times are both significantly enhanced by a proficient sound technician. 4
