1 CLEN-MOORE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH The Messenger JULY/AUGUST 2015 From the Pastor s Desk: The Story of Clen-Moore I think we are all grateful to be back in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings to worship. It was wonderful to see so many people in worship on May 31st as we dedicated the Sanctuary and welcomed the Confirmation Class into church membership. There are still things to be done: officially moving the office, furnishing the welcome space and completing the new doors, among other tasks. We "How can we better tell the story of how God is using this church to spread the love of Jesus?" have been blessed by the continued financial support of Opening Doors and we want to remind everyone who pledged that the continued fulfillment of your pledges are still needed. This Summer we will be doing a mission audit. We look at the various ministries in which Clen-Moore is involved New Church Office Hours in our community, what we are doing and who we are serving. We are doing Effective immediately, the Church Office has established new operating hours. They are: Monday: 1-4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday: 8:30 a.m. - Noon; 1:00 P.M. - 4:30 p.m. more in the community than we realize! Then we will ask the question: "How can we better tell the story of how God is using this church to spread the love of Jesus?" Pastor Chris These changes are permanent. Please make a note of them! (Connect, Grow, Go, Serve) Jr/Sr. High Sunday School - Throughout the summer we will continue to study the Holy Bible looking at various passages and themes, focusing on how the New Testament interprets and fulfills the Old Testament. i.e. - God s Covenant Faithfulness, The New Israel, Salvation History, Prophet/Priest/King, Exodus and the Return of the Exiles, Morality & Ethics, etc. JULY: Lambec's Music Camp & Family Camp, and NW Mission Conference. Sunday, the 12th - Cook Out, Games, and Bible Study at Aaron's House. Time TBD. Thursday, the 16th - "Pine Valley Camp" Our youth and their families will have an opportunity to serve the campers at Pine Valley Camp in Ellwood City. This is the group that sang here at Clen- Moore back in April. We will meet at Clen-Moore at 4:30 PM, drive to the camp, help prep, serve and clean up dinner and then share dinner. Following, we will participate in the camp's evening outdoor activity time. PLEASE RSVP. (I will send a couple reminder s, but if you think you'll go please let me know, b/c they need numbers as soon as we can get it to them). Parents: here is a great opportunity to serve with your children. We'll be back around 9:45 PM. Wednesday, the 22nd - Friday, the 24th - "HIS HANDS" This is a local mission/outreach opportunity for students going into 6th-12th grade to serve families and the community around Lawrence County, mostly in New Castle. This is an all day activity, roughly from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, with lunch included. Last year our group replaced a front porch for a family on Electric Street in New Castle and the mission was rewarding for everyone involved. You can also earn service hours for school if needed. We may not know what our "job" is until the first day we are there. AUGUST: activities will include Waldameer, McConnell's Mill Hike & Picnic, and a Presque Isle Beach trip. Detailed information as to dates, times, etc... will be ed. Summer Sunday School We are offering a combined Sunday School class in the Fellowship Hall for the months of July and August. This will give our regular Sunday School teachers a much needed break and allow us to fellowship together as a church. Music & Committee The Music and Committee is looking for new members. We meet the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 6:00 PM. If you have an interest in serving on this committee, please see Pastor Chris. Help Wanted The Christian Education Committee is still in need of substitute teachers for the children s department and for Children s. Please pray about it. The reality of Christ s resurrection and the glory of springtime fills us with hope and renewal. But for some in our own backyard, springtime isn t that hopeful. And that is why I am so thankful for your recent gift! Your church s generosity is like a seed planted in early spring that will take root and eventually bear fruit in the lives of others. Memorial Service A memorial service for Peggy Duvall Byler will be held at Clen-Moore on Saturday, July 18 at 4 p.m. Visitation with family and refreshments will be held following the service in the new welcoming area. Robison, Presbyterian Frontier Fellowship $1,500 - Alpha Omega Pregnancy Resource Center Thank you to everyone who helped make Vacation Bible School 2015 such a success! We served more than 85 children from the New Castle area. More than 50 volunteers participated, representing Clen- Moore, First, Northminster, Shenango, and Third Presbyterian churches. Your faithful prayers, donations, and participation allow us to minister to God s children, planting seeds that will bear fruit in His season. (Galatians 6:9)

Five Things to Do This Summer: 1. Review your medications. If you are taking an antidepressant, review options with your doctor. Many of these drugs can affect learning and memory because of an anticholinergic effect. 2. Drink lots of water. Remind yourself to have a glass of water occasionally since thirst declines as we age. 3. Use a step stool. Avoiding high reaches reduces stress on your shoulders. 4. Wear flip-flops at the pool. This helps prevent fungal infections. 5. Read! You can add to your vocabulary at any age. Rally Day is a special day in the church calendar. It marks the end of summer and is meant to rally - or draw together - and renew our energy in preparation for a new Sunday School year. On this day, we also promote students who have graduated to a new Sunday School department. We will mark this occasion during worship and at a picnic to follow our 10:30 a.m. worship service. Keep your eye out for more details in the Sunday bulletins this summer!
