1 April 5, 2019 St. Peter Lutheran School Hemlock, MI Congratulations to this team who won our Dr. Seuss Trivia Game on Friday, March 22. We celebrated the end of our reading month with a fun trivia game with our students of all ages on each team. More pictures below. Calendar of Events April 6: 5:00pm PTL Swan Valley Country Club April 8-18: NWEA Testing Window April 8: 6:30pm PTL Board Meeting April 10: 8:05am Chapel:Pastor M orris April 10: 5:30 Soup Supper April 10: 6:30 Lenten Service April 11: 7:00pm Board of Christian Education M eeting April 12: 1st Grade Spirit Day: Backwards Day April 12: 12:30pm VLHS April 13: Girls Soccer Tournament at Peace
2 April 14: 10:30am Seraphim & Cherubim Choirs Sing and Joyful Sound Plays "Guys, it actually worked!" -This was the most enthusiastic and common comment heard from the 5th & 6th graders as they constructed their Rube Goldberg machines during science class this week. M ore Upcoming Events Nurturing the Faith In Our Prayers: This week we will be praying for our students and staff in our Toddler Care program: Mrs. Jessica Roberts, Ms. Katie Fehn, Ms. Lyndsay Hagenow, Mrs. Linda Graf, Bennett, Brixton, Madden, Ariya, Elizabeth, Aubree, Lincoln, Jace, Trevor, Gideon and Carter. Support for the Curnutts: Thank you for keeping James, Krystina, Keirstyn and Brody Curnutt in your prayers this week and for the outpouring of financial help after their loss of their home due to a fire last week. We have had many donations and a very generous chapel offering collection this week. Thank you for your support. Devotion of the Week: There are many tragedies that happen in the world around us. All we have to do is read the paragraph above to see how a fire can destroy a family's home. We also get to see the support and generosity of people in times of need, especially in our St. Peter family. Many of you have given monetary contributions, offered help, and have kept the Curnutt family in your prayers. We did get one "anonymous" donation which came from one of our younger students who did not want to be known (we found out through his grandmother). He had a been saving up his money and then found out about the house fire. He decided to give $100 to support the family! What a wonderful, thoughtful, and extremely generous gift from this child. He gave from his heart out of care and concern for this family. We thank God for His grace and mercy that He showers us with daily. He gave us the ultimate gift, the sacrificial death and resurrection of His Son Jesus. With our focus on our Savior, may God continue to give us the ability to share our gifts with those in need. Fourth Quarter Chapel Offerings: Our chapel offerings for April and May will go to support Hope Seeds. Hope Seeds is a Christian, charitable organization which provides seeds and agriculture support to missionaries and mission teams around the World. The seeds are tested and evaluated before they are placed in the inventory to be sent to various locations. The best seeds are sent so the best results are possible. The outcome is more food for the people that receive the seeds. The Motto of Hope Seeds is "Plant a Seed! Feed a Soul!" Mission Trip to Alaska: In July, one of our 8th graders Sydney Emmendorfer, will be leaving for The Alaska VBS Mission Trip. There is table set up in the school and church with the information about Alaska. Sydney is collecting snacks such as chewy granola bars, fruit snacks and powdered drink canisters with expiration dates of after July Thank you for your donations. Thank You: "I would like to thank the St. Peter Men's Club, Ladies Aid, Mary Martha, Bible Class, Sunday School students and staff and those whom donated individually for their contributions to help me attend the Alaska VBS Mission Trip this summer. Thank you for your generous support as we will work to make sure that every person in the Village of Goodnews Bay, Alaska has the opportunity to know the Good News of Jesus." -Sydney Emmendorfer Quote of the Week
3 Celebrating Reading M onth: Our students did a wonderful job of keeping track of their minutes, pages, and the number of books they read during the month of In the Classroom Hands on Science: The 5th and 6th graders have been studying simple and compound machines in science class for the last couple weeks. To test out their knowledge of each, they were tasked with creating a Rube Goldberg machine! They made homemade levers, pulleys, and other simple machine parts. Their ideas were fantastic and most of the machines worked pretty well! Awesome job, 5th and 6th graders! Thank you also to Miss Hecht, our student teacher, for organizing this exciting project.
4 March. We hope that they continue to read daily. Below are some additional pictures from our Dr. Seuss Trivia game we played the Friday before spring break. What's Your Story Congratulations to Boy Scout Troop 337 newest Eagle Scout, Braden Beyersdorf, St. Peter Class of Braden had his final Board of Review on Sunday, March 24 and was promoted to the rank of Eagle! Braden's Eagle Scout project was to design and construct our newest playground addition, the GaGa Pit, and it has been a fantastic place for our students to have fun during their recess time. Congratulations Braden on completing your Boy Scout journey. Pictured below is Braden and his family after he received his rank of Eagle. We are always looking for additional stories to share. Please click here to send us your story to be published in the Panther Press.
