2 CUBBIES Dear Parents and Boys and Girls! Cubbie's has gotten off to a super start! We have many excited boys and girls coming each week to Cubbie's. You have done a great job so far saying your Bible verse. Here is a description of how our club runs since moms and dads don't get to be in club with us. Every week we have our Coming In Time When we put a sticker on our Cubbies Attendance Chart. Then we work on a fun craft with our Leaders In Training and Color Team. Next, it's our Bible Time where we have announcements, sing Bible songs, and see a puppet show about Cubbie and his friends, Luv E. Lamb, Katie Collie, and Timothy who live on Apple Acres Farm. They show us how to live out truths we learn about in the Bible. We also get to hear a true story from the Bible about God and his son, Jesus, the Savior of the world. This year, our leaders, Mrs. Newell, Mr. Litman, and our LIT, Rachel, will tell the Bible stories. We practice our verses too! After Bible time, we use the bathroom and have a yummy snack shared with us by one of our wonderful Cubbie parents. Thank you, Mrs. Packard for making reminder calls every week so the parents remember the snack! After snack we say our verse to our leader and put stickers on the lesson page in our book to celebrate our learned verses! Finally, we go down to the Cubbie's Game Room to play awesome games led by Mr. Litman. Of course, we always play a round of "Duck, Duck, Goose"! At 8:15pm it's time to go home! And we are surely tired! Thank you moms, dads, and boys and girls, for helping Cubbie's to be a super, fun club! Blessings! Mrs. Courter - For Cubbie Bear

3 SPARKS Hello Sparkies and parents! We're off to a great start this year and we're so happy to have you with us!! Many of our new Sparkies have already finished your Flight 3:16 booklet and received your HangGlider handbook and your red uniform vest! Congratulations!! Sparks Regatta on November 8 It's almost time for our exciting annual Sparky-powered boat race!! This year we have a new kind of boat that will be easier to build and much easier to race! Boat kits will be sold at club starting in mid-october. Watch for more information! Bring a Friend to Sparks! One of the Sections in your Handbook is to bring a visitor to Awana. Think about your friends at school, in your music or theater group, or that you play sports with. They need Jesus too! You could help them hear about Him by inviting them to Sparks! If they come to Sparks three times in a row, BOTH of you win a giant candy bar...yum!!! The first few sections in your HangGlider, WingRunner or SkyStormer handbook are called the "Rank Path." Once you finish these sections, you will receive your rank patch that may be ironed or sewn onto your vest. Then you can start working on your Red and Green Jewel sections! When you get your first jewel, you should also receive a pin shaped like wings for your jewels. If we forget to give you your wings, please let us know! (Sometimes even grown-ups forget things!) Red Jewel 1, Section 1 is to bring a friend to AWANA who has never come before! Here are three things to pray for God's help with this section: 1. Ask God to help you think of friends who might like to come with you and have fun learning about Jesus. 2. Ask God to help them want to come 3. Ask Him to help their parents want them to come! We hope that all of you will finish your entire Handbook this year!! As you work on learning your sections, remember that if you complete TWO sections every week, you will complete it by the end of the year!

4 T&T We are off to a fast start with our Truth and Training Club. We are changing things up this year with a new book for the 3 rd and 4 th graders called. Evidence of Grace. This is the new and improved 2 nd book of the new Awana curriculum. We hope that it not only fosters the memorization of God s Word, but also gets the clubbers and leaders talking about what these verses mean to their Christian Walk. It is also supposed to be a lot of fun. So don t be surprised if you hear your clubber working on memorizing their verse in a silly voice or singing it to a popular song tune. Our 5 th and 6 th graders are still working on the Ultimate Challenge Books from the old curriculum. These are wonderful tools for your children to learn how to answer some of the most common questions about God, the Bible, and even our Christian Families. We hope to discuss these verses with the clubbers each week, and see how they grow. One of the biggest changes in club is called the FAST TRACK. Instead of gathering in the gym to play until the start of club, we have all the clubbers going into meet with the leaders right after they sign in. Here we are giving them and immediate and one on one chance to recite their sections or work with a leader on finishing up on a hard section. This is not the only time during the night to recite verses, but does get us ready to work on exploring new verses and getting to know each other better. We hope that this year will be full of fun learning about what matters most! Bring A Real Friend If you don t look at the whole title, it looks like a real horrible night at Awana. But it is instead an important reminder that we want to make sure we share our love of God with the friends and neighbors we are supposed to love as well. On Oct 11 th and Oct 18 th any T&T clubber that brings a friend gets the chance to share God s Words with them, as well as an Ice Cream Sunday. Which we will be eating in club! More information will be announced in club. Don t hesitate to share ideas of your favorite toppings!

5 Cup Stacking Have you found yourself coming home and wanting to get that refreshing cup of cold milk, and found yourself stacking all the cups in the house instead? It might just be our fault. We are introducing Speed Cup Stacking games in club this year. Not only is this just a fun new game we can do during our Awana Game time, but we will also be competing in cup stacking games in March in our Awana Games and Spark-A-Rama events. Maybe next year we can teach everyone to wash and put away all the dishes as well! Hey, what are Awana Shares? Awana Shares are the fun (fake) money that Clubbers use to buy some neat stuff at the Awana Store once a month. See the Awana Club Calendar on the last page of the Newsletter to find out when the Awana Store is open for your Club! How do I earn Awana Shares? 1. Wear your Uniform out in public! T&Ters: Bring a note from an adult stating that you wore your Awana Uniform in Public on the FIRST Wednesday of EACH month. *HINT* see #2 when you re friends ask about your Uniform! Sparkies: Bring a note from at adult stating that you wore your Awana Uniform in Public on EACH Wednesday of EACH month for a Share. You can have an adult write a new note each week or print a new one from the Newsletter each week. *HINT* see #2 when your friends ask about your Uniform! 2. Bring a friend to any Awana Club night. You will EACH get an Awana Share! 3. Sparks dress up for the weekly theme night for another chance to earn an Awana Share! 4. ALWAYS read the Newsletter for other *extra special* chances to earn Shares!! 5. You never know when good behavior will earn you a share! Hey, Kids! CUT IT OUT!!! This Adult Certifies That Wore Their Uniform Out in Public at on Wednesday, Oct 4, 2017 and will get an Awana Share when they turn in this note at Awana. Parents When you have signed out your children at the end of the night, please take them outside of the gymnasium. Our leaders are working hard at keeping the remaining children safe, and the play of those released make it difficult to keep track of those that have not been signed out. Thanks!

7 From the Director s Chair: We live in a world that can be a little bit scary. There has always been storms, earthquakes, wars, and other terrible things. This is a result of the curse that sin has brought on this world. Sin that people chose over the Words of God. Ever since then people have been looking for peace. Take a look at the next story which tells of a king looking for peace. A picture of peace There once was a King who offered a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace. Many artists tried. The King looked at all the pictures, but there were only two he really liked and he had to choose between them. One picture was of a calm lake. The lake was a perfect mirror, for peaceful towering mountains were all around it. Overhead was a blue sky with fluffy white clouds. All who saw this picture thought that it was a perfect picture of peace. The other picture had mountains, too. But these were rugged and bare. Above was an angry sky from which rain fell and in which lightening played. Down the side of the mountain tumbled a foaming waterfall. This did not look peaceful at all. But when the King looked, he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush growing in a crack in the rock. In the bush a mother bird had built her nest. There, in the midst of the rush of angry water, sat the mother bird on her nest in perfect peace. Which picture do you think won the prize? The King chose the second picture. Do you know why? 'Because' explained the King, 'peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace.' Author Unknown How can we find that calm in our hearts which will allow us to find peace among all the terrible things surrounding us? We can find the answer in Psalm 91. We will find peace only if we have trust in God. Verse 4 shows us the rest of the picture the king was looking for. Psalm 91 He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. Find Peace and Glorify God Mr. Jardon
