Christmas Newsletter St. Michael School Principal s Message Christmas Prayer I would like to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I have worked in many different schools during the Christmas season and, regardless of the type of school, it is always an exciting and hectic time of year. St. Michael is no different. Our staff and student have put on many wonderful events to celebrate the Christmas and Advent Seasons this year. Many of the grade 7-9 students and teachers shared their talents during the Band and Choir Christmas Concert and the Grade 9 Musical theatre presentation. The Pre-K to Grade 6s presented a lovely Christmas Concert Mass as well as the regular Mass on the 20 th. The SRC, as always, entertained and educated us all during their assembly on the last day of school. Many staff and parent volunteers came together to put together the annual Christmas Store which raised over $1200 from your donated gifts. These funds will be used to help support some of our families who are going through difficult times this year. One of the many benefits of being a Catholic school, is it allows us to truly focus on the meaning and reason for the Christmas season. It is all too easy for any of us to forget to Keep Christ in Christmas as we get caught up in the hectic activity that leads up to Christmas day. Seeing staff, students, and parents working so hard to share the talents and gifts that they have been given with others, has helped me to keep Christ in my heart and mind during this Christmas season. I hope it has done the same for all of us. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Mr. G. D. Loberg The day of joy returns, Father in Heaven, and crowns another year with peace and good will. Help us rightly to remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and the worship of the wise men. Close the doors of hate and open the doors of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil by the blessing that Christ brings and teach us to be merry with clean hearts. May the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children and the Christmas evening bring us to our bed with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus sake. Amen. Christmas Eve Mass will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Church at 5:00PM and 10:00PM on December 24. Christmas Day Mass will be held at 10:00AM on December 25. Everyone is welcome!
Sharing our Talents Our talented Grade 9 students played and sang Christmas carols for the residents of Tatagwa View. They also spent some time visiting and sharing a homemade gift with their friends. These students visit and interact with the residents on a monthly basis. The Night Shift Before Christmas is a musical production put on by our middle years students. This production included a pit band and a performance that is set in a diner -- the night shift before the birth of Jesus. Our Pre-K to Grade 6 students celebrated Christmas by bringing family and friends together at St. Vincent de Paul Parish for a Christmas Concert Mass. This celebration was the perfect way to prepare the students hearts and minds for Jesus birth. We are very proud of our students and their commitment to putting others before themselves. The generous spirit of these young people is evident in all they do. Dear young people, do not bury your talents, the gifts that God has given you! Do not be afraid to dream of great things! ~Pope Francis~ Recommended Read A great Christmas read that is a family favourite is The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore. This book can be found in our school library. It is a true classic that can be enjoyed by everyone! Mrs. Dimmick
Musical Notes I would like to congratulate the Concert Band, Jazz Band and Grade 7 students who participated in our Christmas concert as well as our talented Grade 9s who worked so hard to present our Christmas musical. Well done! I d also like to encourage individual students to enter the Weyburn Music Festival in March. If you would like to play a solo, a duet with another student or perform in a small ensemble, I will find music for you and provide extra help to prepare for your performance. Let me know soon! All applications must be in by January 17, Have a safe and blessed Christmas Season! Ms. Judy Holyer The St. Michael Singers have been busy this fall. They provided music at church in September and performed at Communithon is October! At the beginning of December they combined with the other St. Vincent de Paul choirs to provide music when the Archbishop installed Father Francis into the church. To wrap up 2016 we went "caroling in the halls". In 2017 we hope to continue singing and have been asked to sing at Church in January. Just a reminder that SMS Singers is open to all students in Grades 2 to 5. Merry Christmas! Mrs. Denise Schmidt & Miss Kelsey Pragnell Grade 7-9 Glee Cub has had an eventful year so far! We have performed at assemblies, Communithon, and for the Knights of Columbus. We are very proud of how talented our Glee Club is! In the New Year we will continue putting new pieces together to get ready for our performances in the spring. We are always accepting new members and the new year is the perfect time to join! Merry Christmas! Miss Kelsey Pragnell & Miss Nicole Bendtsen
Thank You! HOLY FAMILY R.C.S.S.D. # 140 ANNUAL MEETING OF ELECTORS The Annual Meeting of Electors for the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division will be held on: We would like to thank our SCC for donating playground balls and new sleds for our students to use! These items have already been used often and the students really enjoy having them. The SCC will also be donating towards the Classroom Sound Field systems with the funds that were raised during the Mom s Pantry Fundraiser. These sound field systems greatly impact our students learning and this donation is appreciated. Thank you St. Michael SCC! Congratulations to Jaxon Porter and his class Grade 1 Lab who won the books from the book fair! I want to thank our students and parents who made our annual book fair such a great success. This is such a worthwhile fundraiser to put more books in our library and for our students. Thanks again! Mrs. Dimmick January 11, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at th Street, Weyburn, SK for review of the Fiscal Year as prescribed by The Education Act, All electors are welcome. I really enjoyed coaching you! Basketball Grade 6 boys basketball will begin after the break! Our practices will be Fridays at 8:00AM and our games will be Wednesdays at 3:30-4:30PM. Our first practice will be Friday, January 6! Mme. Mantei
Keeping Christ in Christmas Our Grade 7, 8 and 9 students held a Christmas Band and Choir Concert for their parents. After the performance, students shared the artwork that is on display with the theme Keep Christ in Christmas sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. The Knights provide medals for students participating from grades Pre-K to 9. The Grade 7 to 9 students shared their giving spirit by donating toques, gloves, socks and toys which will be donated to families in need. The Grade 8 classrooms raised $ that they will donate to World Vision. A little bit of mercy makes the world less cold and more just. St. Michael School Christmas Store Good News Stories are happening daily at St. Michael School, but the stories during Advent are very special. As we anxiously await the birth of our Saviour, we prepare our hearts and minds with love and thoughts of others. The annual Christmas Store event was a great success!! A very big thank you to the parents and staff volunteers that made the store come to life for our students. Christmas is joy, religious joy, an inner joy of light and peace. ~Pope Francis~
McKenna Roof Fundraiser - Rocky Mountain Vacation The St. Vincent de Paul Parish Finance Committee is pleased to announce a silent auction for three opportunities to vacation in the Canadian Rockies. All money raised goes to the McKenna Hall Roof Fund. The winning bid will receive seven nights at a vacation condo unit at Silver Creek Mountain Lodge in Canmore, Alberta. On site restaurant, spa and hot tubs. Bidding sheets are located near the front doors of St. Vincent de Paul church. Bidding is open Dec 24- Jan 16th. The SRC had a blast putting on this year s Christmas assembly! The assembly included singing by the Glee Club, presentation of the Elf on the Shelf winners, Keep Christ in Christmas Awards, and Spirit Point winners. We are impressed by how smoothly everything was planned out. The teacher s looked great in their wrapping; way to go SMS! A great time was had by everyone! We held our 2016 Winter Masquerade Dance on Friday December 16th. Music was provided by our very on SRC ipod. Pretty cool, hey?! SRC wants to wrap up this message by saying they hope that everyone has a blessed Christmas and Happy New Year!
