1 THE CHURCH OF THE RED ROCKS The Rev. Dr. Cindy Parker, Pastor A Stephen Ministry Congregation An Open and Affirming Congregation ORDER OF WORSHIP The Fourth Sunday in Lent Lent is a time of journey, reflection, and ritual. We remember the journey of the Israelites out of Egypt and into the desert. We remember Jesus journey into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan. Our own lives reflect those journeys-journeys with others, passages through challenging times and times of loss, crossing from one stage of life to another. Our liturgy for Lent includes a river theme: r=reflect, i=invite, v=voice, e=engage, r=realize. Prelude "Overture" Rimsky-Korsakov *Gathering Hymn #575 "O, for a World" Welcome and Announcements Pastor: No matter who you are or where you are on life s journey, People: You are welcome here! Reflect Call to Worship One: People of God, gather today; in this sacred space, in this sacred moment. For this time step aside from your daily concerns, for here we recall the stories of faith. Here we see the God does not dodge dangerous places, here we are called to stand and face our fears, here we remember whose we are. Invite Gathering Prayer Voice Epistle Reading "From death to life" Ephesians 2:1-10 8:30 Aaliyah Bancod 10:30 Betty Williams Special Music "Not Far From Here" Lacy and Siler Keith Paulson, tenor Gospel Reading "Jesus and Pilate" John 18:28-40 Engage Message for All God s Children (It is a joy to worship with our children and grandchildren. Children ages 6 and under are invited to join Shandra for special worship activities designed just for them.)

Years of experience as a church music administrator and music educator have proven to be invaluable experience, and teaching has become a large part of Heather's ministry. She taught all elementary levels of music at Grace Academy of Dallas for 4 years, served as an adjunct music professor at Baylor University, and has served on many master class panels in piano and songwriting. Heather regularly is a guest speaker and conductor at churches across America, and leads scores of sessions each year at various worship conferences, schools, and universities. Hal Hopson Brynn Easter, flute Prayers of the People, Prayers of the Pastor and The Lord s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. In John 12:20-33 everyone wants to see Jesus. However, when they/we find Jesus he speaks out about his upcoming suffering and death. Who would welcome an invitation into a community of suffering and death? Is this the Jesus we want to see? God speaks through the message, You want to see Jesus?

5 What in the world is The Church of the Red Rocks doing in regards to the homeless in Sedona? The Witness for Justice Committee continues to discuss ways we can help those who are homeless in our community. The monies collected by the church ($7,500 along with the $5,000 contributed by the Mission Endowment fund) continue to remain at the church. The plan to rent hotel rooms did not come to fruition and so we continue to dialogue with the Sedona Area Homeless Alliance. If you have any thoughts or ideas on how The Church of the Red Rocks can help bring about God's reign here and now with those who are homeless, please join the Witness for Justice committee at our next meeting on Tuesday, March 13th at 2:00 pm. Thank you! Hike with us! Andante Trail will be the next destination for the CRR hiking group. All are welcome. Meet at the church parking lot at 9:00 AM on March 12. Please Roger Bloomfield at for more information and to keep up to date in case of weather concerns.
