1 THE CHURCH OF THE RED ROCKS The Rev. Dr. Cindy Parker, Pastor A Stephen Ministry Congregation An Open and Affirming Congregation ORDER OF WORSHIP Palm/Passion Sunday Prelude "The Palms" J. Favre David Leman, piano and Micah Laird, trumpet *Processional Hymn #216 "All Glory, Laud, and Honor" (We invite our church family to join in the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. Palms/ribbons and instruments are in the back of the sanctuary for you to pick up!) Welcome and Announcements Pastor: No matter who you are, or where you are on life s journey, People: You are welcome here! Call to Worship Today we recall the events of the first Holy Week so many years ago. We remember how it started with Jesus entering the Holy City and we recall how it ended with his death outside Jerusalem s gates. This is how it began: A reading from Matthew 11: 1-10 Lord God, as did the people of Jerusalem before us, we cry to you, saying: Hosanna-blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest! Prayer of Confession (responsively) One: O Holy One, we are too distressed to notice that you join us in the parade. We are too deeply grieved to be aware that you sit beside us at the table. All:We are too busy sighing. We are too busy talking. We have insisted upon our own answers. One: We proclaimed our own knowledge to why bad things happen, to why the rich get richer, to why the world feels so broken. All: We have assured ourselves that this is the way things must be, but this life in your hands. Our lives are in your hands.

4 One: O Holy One, speak to us. Fill our silences. Comfort us with your love so that we may find your understanding. Trust us to find your answers when we finally tire from our own. Save us, O Holy One, with your steadfast love. Time for silent confession and prayer Assurance of Pardon One: Beloved, hear the good news! Jesus willingly goes to the cross for us! For us! So that we might know his steadfast love for us! In the name of Jesus we are forgiven! All: Thanks to be to God! Amen! Choir Anthem "Christus Aux Mea" Heather Sorenson Message for all God s children The Legend of the Donkey s Cross (It is a joy to worship with our children and grandchildren. Children ages 6 and under are invited to join Shandra for special worship activities designed just for them.) Offertory & Sharing of our gifts *Doxology: Hymnal #198 (refrain) Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim; Let all adore and praise that sacred name. *Prayer of Dedication Heather Sorenson Special Music Heather Sorenson Palm-Passion Litany One: The people welcomed Jesus into their midst. Their hosannas rang out, they called upon him as a savior, a mighty king. All: They hoped that he would cast the oppressors out of their land and bring the nation glory and honor. One: It was a special moment-a time of celebration, a time of anticipation, a time when people felt they would receive a new life. All: This was the reason Jesus came. One: But God s ways are not our ways, nor are God s thoughts our thoughts. Our worship today recognizes this fact and we rejoice in it. All: Blessed be the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
