2 Notes from the Pastor s Pen... As we transition into crisp fall air and changing leaves, I am reminded of the verse from Ecclesiastes 3, For everything there is a season. Our seasons are changing. October is typically a change month. This is especially true here at Kelso UMPC. As fall comes into full swing, we are back to two services, our activities resume, and our Church Conference is scheduled to take place later this month. Lately, I have been reflecting on the past year and thinking about changes both personally and as a church. Since October of last year, I have lost almost a whole person. I hope to never find her again! I am still a few lbs. away from the goal the doctor has set, but I am hopeful I will be there by the end of the year. It always seems like that last 5-lbs. will never leave. Thank you for all your encouragement and nice compliments. While I have lost the weight, my household has increased in size. I gained four new occupants last month. We are finding our way, and it is a joy to have Brandon, Heather, Haylee and Piper around all the time We haven t lived near family for more than 10 years. I am loving it! Our church has also experienced changes this past year. We ve added a new Jazz Worship Service and put on a new roof at the Methodist Campus. We ve increased our usage of our Presbyterian Campus by feeding the homeless, providing a space for the Lion s Club, and having a dog training class. We also rented out the bottom floor to New and Living Way Church. We re starting a backpack ministry this month that will also be housed there. Oh, and our UMPW members are using space on Thursday to work on bazaar items. Notes from Pastor (Cont.) Our buildings are put to good use, and I am thankful to the Trustees for their hard work in keeping both buildings in good working order. These are just a few of the changes that have occurred this year. There are many others. I wonder what changes will come this fall and next year. What new thing is God preparing us to do? Change isn t always welcome, but it always comes. Whatever change comes our way, I know one thing that never changes, the love of Jesus Christ. I pray for you daily, I hope you pray for me. I ll look for you in church! --Pastor Vonda Merger is Official! Have you ever hoped..dreamed..waited for something to happen and it just never does? I m sure many of us have felt that way about our merger being official over these past few years. I know for us we have been merged for a long time now. But in the eyes of the state we were still two churches. No more! We are now officially Kelso United Methodist Presbyterian Church! We have received the document duly signed by the Secretary of State. We ll be having it framed and displayed in a prominent place. I can t adequately express to you my joy in being your pastor and for all the hard work so many put in to make this happen. But I especially want to thank John Simpson for meeting with the attorney multiple times, proofreading the document multiple times, and getting us to a successful conclusion! Thanks so much, John! September 18, 2017 will forever be our official birthday!!

5 Cooks Wanted for Wednesday Youth Ministry We are looking for help in preparing the meals for Wednesday Night Youth Ministry. If you can help once a month or more, please let Pastor Vonda know. Sunday School Teachers Needed We are experiencing a shortage of Sunday School teachers. It is imperative that we have Sunday School, but we can t provide Sunday School without the teachers. If you would be interested in teaching once a month or every other month, please let our Sunday School Coordinator, Shelly Buller, or Pastor Vonda know. If you have some amazing ideas or God is leading you in a new direction, we d love to hear it. We also need an Education Committee Chair that would help guide our Youth and Adult Education Programs. One hundred years from now It won t matter What kind of car I drove What kind of house I lived in How much money I had in the bank Nor what my clothes looked like BUT The world may be a little better Because I was important In the life of a child. Paraphrased excerpt from Within My Power by Forest Witcraft Blessing Pantry This is a generous congregation, and we are blessed to be the family of God. While we are always eager to help those we don t know, we also have need to help those who are a part of our family. To that end, the Worship Committee would like to start a new tradition (an old tradition in Hawaii). Each week during worship, we ll ask for blessings at the beginning of worship (during our announcement time). We invite you to share a blessing and put a dollar or two in our Blessing Box. These funds will be used to help our church family. There are times when the months are long and the dollars run short. I m sure most of us have experienced something like this. We will be setting up a Blessing Pantry in our library stocked with nonperishable items. If you need food to get you by for the month, stop by and take some with you. If you have an extra item you want to share, drop it off at the Blessing Pantry. We ll use the dollars from worship for perishable items and give the funds directly to whoever is in need. Don t be embarrassed if you are in need. I ve been in your shoes more times than I can count. Families help one another, and we re all one big, happy family! If you have any questions speak with Pastor Vonda.
