2 PASTOR S DESK with Pastor Schedule an hour of your day on Wednesday, at 10am in Room 1. Come and join in coffee and conversation. BOOK STUDY TRANSFORMED LIVING GROUPS October 14 thru November 18 I have had the privilege of being your pastor for over four years. In that time, we have worked together to stabilize our church life, develop a mission and engage in building relationships with others in our community. We have a more solid foundation upon which to build toward the future. It is good to have a past we can celebrate and a future we can dream about and work toward. What ties the two together and gives life to them is what we do in the present. Over the next two months we make the present more meaningful and fruitful as we engage with each other in a program known as Treasures of the Transformed Life. This program offers us the opportunity to begin or continue our growth in our relationship with God that transforms us as individuals and as a community of Jesus followers. There are 40 daily readings and the Participants Workbook offers space to record new insights you have discovered and ways to apply them in your daily life. Each week you will be encouraged to connect with others in a small group to discuss what you have learned. This is also a time to hear what others are thinking as they engage in the daily readings. This time will also include a short video by the author of this program, John Ed Mathison, who is a retired United Methodist Pastor in Alabama. The whole program will encourage us to discover God as the source of our life, how to connect with God through your prayer life, the importance of connecting with other followers of Jesus on a regular basis, the central part giving plays in our maturity and how we can better the lives of people in our community through service. At the end we will have an opportunity to make a commitment to making our church a place that lives out God s dream for God s children.

3 PASTOR S DESK (continued) I want you to prayerfully consider being involved in this program. We all have busy lives and squeezing in one more thing will not be easy. But maybe this one more thing, will help us live more freely and meaningfully in the future. Maybe it will help us live with more significance and purpose. If you cannot join one of the small groups, then maybe you and a few friends can gather for your own meeting that fits your schedule. You will need the book of daily readings and a Participants Workbook which together costs $ If your spouse or partner want to join you then all they need is to purchase the Participants Workbook the cost is $5.00, so a total of $25.00 per couple. If you don t have time for a small group meeting, then just purchase the books and do the reading each day. My messages each will wrap up the readings for the week and you will still get a great deal of learning from the program. I believe that our church has so much to offer the people of our community. There are so many people who have never heard the message that God loves them, treasures them, cherishes them and want to be a companion with them in life. There are people who have never heard that message as well as people who have heard only that God is angry with them and is judging them and will only love them when they change their behavior. We have a powerful message of a loving, compassionate God who is for them and with them. To get that life-changing message out to people will take our effort and commitment. Treasures of the Transformed Life will help us accomplish that goal. Let s do this together! Peace, Pastor Jim GROUPS ARE FORMING PLEASE SIGN UP IN THE LOBBY

7 Neighbors In Need Special Offering When Jesus was asked which of the commandments was most important he replied without hesitation, The most important one is this, Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these. Mark 12:29-31 On Sunday, October 7, we will receive a special offering called, Neighbors in Need. Through this offering we demonstrate our love for those with whom we share a nation. The monies collected through this special offering supports relief efforts directed to those who experience natural disasters such as flooding, wildfires, tornados, hurricanes, and earthquakes. It also supports efforts to give voice to the voiceless as they need others to advocate for their desperate situations of hunger, poverty and homelessness. Shifting economic trends have left some disadvantaged through lack of employable skills and provides training opportunities to free them from their dire situations to live a more productive life and provide for their families. Your gift will help fulfill Jesus commandment to love God and neighbor. When we help our neighbor to improve their lives we not only demonstrate our love for them but also our love for God. We encourage you to give this special offering your prayerful consideration and give as generously as you are able. Thank you. Stewardship Ministry Leader Alan Campbell

8 Dear Friends: Exciting days are ahead. We re about to introduce a life-changing opportunity for our church family, and it s a chance for us to dive deeper into all that God has for us, both individually and as a congregation. In coming weeks, you ll be able to pick up a copy of Treasures of the Transformed Life: Satisfying Your Soul s Thirst for More at Worship. This book includes forty daily readings that will challenge you in the areas of service, prayer, attendance, financial gifts, and commitment. You ll have the chance to ask yourself some probing questions about what you believe and why. Please take advantage of all that this book has to offer. Set aside a few brief moments for introspection each day, and I guarantee that the Lord will meet you exactly where you are, and begin to fulfill desires of your heart that you might not even realize you have. To deepen your experience, we ll be discussing each week s topics in both our small group meetings and in Worship. That way, we ll all have the opportunity to grow as one, reaching for a common goal. And that common goal, friend, is a rich, rewarding, blessed life of adventure, joy, peace and purpose. At the end of the study, we ll all take part in Commitment Sunday, when we ll have a chance to put our faith into action. But that will be here soon enough. For now, let s focus on the task at hand. Do your best to attend worship services in the coming weeks, and keep your eye out for the start of the campaign. I d hate for you to miss a moment as we all embark on this journey together. And please, join me in prayer that God would indeed throw open the floodgates of heaven, as he promises in Malachi 3:10, and pour out so much blessing individually and corporately that we don t have room to contain it. There s so much more to God than we can even imagine. Over the course of this forty-day study, however, we ll have an opportunity to see him and his presence in our lives in an entirely new way. The water s fine. So won t you join me in jumping in? Sincerely, Allan Campbell, Stewardship Ministry Chair
