2 The Baptism of the Lord Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Bapsm of Our Lord. The Church recalls Our Lord's second manifestaon or epiphany which occurred on the occasion of His bapsm in the creaon in which the enre Trinity intervenes. In most years, this feast is celebrated on the Sunday aer Epiphany. When Epiphany falls on either January 7 or 8, the Bapsm of the Lord is celebrated on the Monday aer Epiphany. This brings to an The bapsm of John was a sort of sacramental preparatory for the Bapsm of Christ. John the Bapst says that he has bapzed with water, but that the one who is to come will bapze with the Holy Spirit. It moved people to senments of repentance and induced them to confess their sins. At Christ's bapsm the Holy Spirit descended upon Him; at our Bapsm the Trinity took its abode in our soul. At His bapsm Christ was proclaimed the "Beloved Son" of the Father; at our Bapsm we become the adopted sons and daughters of God. At Christ's bapsm the heavens were opened; at our Bapsm heaven was opened to us. At His bapsm Jesus prayed; aer our Bapsm we must pray to avoid actual sin. On this the last day of the Christmas season the Gospel reveals Jesus' relaonship to God: the Son of Mary and Joseph is also God's own Son.
