2 It s been about seven weeks now since I returned from the Sabbatical Pilgrimage. Being home again has been a bit of an adjustment; quite a change from every little while being in a new country, a new city, a new culture, the constant meeting new people with their variety of customs and thoughts and ways. I really enjoyed the four months and found them stimulating and invigorating; I feel that I could have kept going for a while longer. During those first weeks when I was back home some mornings when I first woke up, in that half awake/half sleeping moment I would wonder where I was, if I needed to get going and rush to the airport, or get to the hotel breakfast room. Four months, sixteen countries, 28 different air flights, and scores of cities can do that to you; but now that is over. Too often we humans have used the variety of our God understandings to be a reason for separation and division instead of collaboration. I feel that the sabbatical journey accomplished its purpose very well. It gave me the opportunity to visit the sacred places of Christians, Jews, and Muslims, of Sikhs, Ethiopian Orthodox, and Buddhists, of Hindus, Animists, and Aborigines and other native religions. I was able to be in their places and to enjoy with them what we all share--- awe in the presence of the sacred. All share a common yearning to experience and to know about God (we can know about God, yet none of us and no group of us can know God because God is always beyond our grasp). Each group has experienced God and has some unique aspect of God to add to the compilation. That is wonderful to see how much we can/could learn from one another around the globe. While we Christians know we are wonderfully blessed in having received a uniquely special revelation from God in the life, teaching, death and resurrection of Jesus we still can learn from what God has made known of Godself to Godrejoicing people everywhere. Everywhere people are concerned about their relationship with God and they express it in a myriad of ways, always seasoned by their national traditions and culture. Yes, there are atheists, but besides them there is evidence around the world and throughout the history of humankind that there is in the human person/ tribe/peoples a nearly universal desire for relationship to the Divine. This is one of the many threads that could be used to weave a unified tapestry of the global human family; unfortunately, too often we humans have used the variety of our God understandings to be a reason for separation and division instead of collaboration. It seems in some ways that I have not yet begun to unpack the profound experience that these four months have given me. Sometimes I feel that the whole thing is like a large bundle in my experience memory that I have yet to really begin to unravel. This is especially clear when people might ask what was the most interesting experience and I can only answer, there are so many kinds of interesting. Perhaps this is why I haven t said a whole lot in public about the sabbatical it still is sinking in. Kenneth Mich

Listen for the announcement after Eucharist whenever a personal prayer leader is available after Mass. All are welcomed. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the mist of them. Matthew 18: 20 Contribution Confusion The stewardship letters for the month of February had an error in the year-todate contribution totals for many parishioners. This was due to a computer error. If your statement indicates that you contributed more than you actually have, this is a result of that error. The problem has been corrected and you will see that correction reflected in your March Stewardship statement. Next Week: On February 15, Miriam Brown, OP will present: Called to Be Mystics and Prophets. Bede Griffiths, monk, mystic, and elder, said that ours is an exciting time to be alive. An age like this compels you to be serious about God and change! It calls us to be who we are by Baptism: mystics attuned to God s endless love and prophets committed to make this world a just and hopeful place for all. In the Spotlight adult faith formation is on these Sunday Mornings from 9:45-10:45 am.

Please call the Parish Office at to let us know how many members of your family will be attending. The Ash Wednesday liturgy begins at 7:00 p.m. Bring last year s palms Prior to the Ash Wednesday liturgy, at 6:50 p.m., we will have the Burning of the Palms ritual. Please bring old palms to church the next two weekends (Feb. 14/15 & 21/22). Put them in the marked baskets at the base of the ramp, or at the south entrance. Vocation Views The afflicted Job in the Old Testament thinks that his life is like dust in the wind there is nothing to it. Sorrow and sadness strike many people; only those who have been afflicted, who know sorrow themselves, are poor enough to minister to others Annual LARCUM Concert! What: How Can I Keep From Singing the 2009 Annual LARCUM Concert When: Sunday, February 22, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. Where: St. Anthony Catholic Church, Menomonee Falls How: Why: With enthusiasm End the season of ordinary time enjoying sacred music in a variety of styles and settings Who: Choirs from the individual LARCUM churches and a combined choir of all voices. LARCUM is an acronym for Lutheran, Anglican, Roman Catholic, United Methodist and United Church of Christ. These churches collaborate on various issues and on this combined choir concert each year. THANK YOU, Good Shepherd. From the Menomonee Falls F.A.C.T. Food Pantry Thank you for your generous donation and food given to the pantry. Your assistance is a great help, alleviating the shortage of items on the shelves at the pantry. (The Generations of Faith take home bags are being returned with items for the Falls food pantry a most welcome gift to those in need in our area.) From Columbia St. Mary s We are grateful to Good Shepherd for its support of St. Ben s Clinic for the Homeless [ongoing outreach support]. Here s a story about one of the people helped by our donations: Marie, a 60 year-old woman, staying at the Cathedral Center shelter, had been without health care since she lost her insurance over a year ago. Unable to get the medications she needed for a variety of health concerns, Marie was hit by a car. Fortunately, St. Ben s has an outreach site at the Cathedral Center where Marie had her many medical needs met. Thank you for your ongoing support of the clinic and the many homeless individuals served. From the Waukesha County Food Pantry Thank you for your recent donation [ December Combined Collections]. It is people like you that have enabled us to fulfill our mission of ending hunger in Waukesha. Your support is vital to our ability to fill an ongoing and growing need in our community. Hartfel House is 35 years old! On December 15, 2008 the Village of Menomonee Falls Board meeting included a proclamation of the 35 th anniversary of Hartfel House. The Proclamation was for special service to special people. Check out the parish website ( which has an interesting section on Hartfel House history.
