The prophet Isaiah was commanded to cry aloud, a message that was always unpopular. The message focuses on the sins and transgressions of a people who were very religious. The message will bring down bitter displeasure upon one s head. Yet this is only one of the messages required by God, of every Pastor. Nothing less is expected of me as Pastor. The problem today is the pulpit aims to please the unsaved and Christians rather than God. We need to be told about our fatal disease (sin). There needs to be a conversation about our sins and transgressions. Revival starts that conversation and the healing process. I have the charge to tell Christians the truth and nothing but the truth about our sins and transgressions. Sins and transgressions are like cancer in the body of a Christian. When I was diagnosed with liver cancer (God has healed me) I went into a state of denial. My doctor was straightforward. He spoke the truth. I did not like it and I did not want to hear it, but he gave me the information to start my healing. Family Week: Reflecting God s Glory Submitted by Larry Lee Revival is a personal healing process. Revival is designed to bring growth and Pastor Marvin G. Parker increase, when there is a lapse it affects our relationship with God. Revival takes us out of our comfort zone. Revival is painful, penetrating, powerful, purposeful purifying, and our relationship with our Savior matures during the process. Revival makes us alter our daily routines, allowing more time for the Lord. Are we giving a tenth or more of our time to the Lord? Revival should create in us a desire for total surrender to the Lord, and all that He commands of us. Surrendering to the Lord allows us to serve others with a sincere heart. Broadview Missionary Baptist 2015 Family Week committee is again busy planning exciting and spirit-filled activities for the entire week. Family Week is an opportunity for the church body, and those worshiping with us, to focus, to celebrate on building, and strengthening our relationships with one another and God. It provides the chance for all (married or single) who have accepted Jesus Christ in their lives to share the love of God with others. 2 Stirring Up the Gift Sharing Jesus Love Submitted by Jackie Karriem What could compel you to share the height and depth of the love of Jesus at over 9,000 feet elevation? Being a beneficiary of that love you re telling others about is powerful reason enough. A youth team, led by adults, Bro. Curtis Brady and Sis. Jackie Karriem, did just that during their mission trip to Quito, Ecuador July 4 thru 11. The team, which also included youth members: Camron Brady, Kendra Cowart, Shayna Curry, and Ka lel Wright Jones, joined 64 members from five other Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) churches. SBC members from Texas, Louisiana, and North Carolina went to parks, schools, churches, and the streets of Quito to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We exhibited His love to the Ecuadorians. In the months before the trip, the team talked about the apprehension and uneasiness that was felt in carrying out God s call on their lives to witness. And as they went out, the gift of God in them was stirred up and helped them to stand steadfast in the truth that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. Members had unforgettable, life-changing experiences with the Ecuadorians ministered to. When Sis. Matilda Walker asked the youth, What gave you the greatest joy while out there? Camron said, Getting out of my comfort zone and being more confident was a big thing for me. Kendra replied, I love the Latin culture and being immersed in it and using my Top: Cameron, Brady, Shayna Curry and, Kendra Cowart Bottom: Jackie Karriem, Kai lel Wright Jones and Curtis Brady Spanish was really good. Speaking Spanish, Shayna led a young woman to Christ. "It felt great! Shayna was so impacted by her experiences that she is considering joining the team that will go to Ecuador in October. On first Sunday during the mission report time, Ka lel stated, I m a shy person, but because of what I learned about witnessing here at Broadview, the words about Jesus just came out. Anyone interested in joining this team should contact Curtis or Jackie for more information. Once you go, you won t come back the same! Believe the Story Submitted by Rev Christopher Robinson, Sr. This fall we have an exciting curriculum titled, BELIEVE. Believe is a groundbreaking Bible reading experience that will anchor every member in the core teachings of Scripture the 10 key beliefs, 10 key practices, and 10 key virtues of a Christian. Learn how to THINK, ACT, and BE more like Jesus. It is a good study for newbies as well as a refresher for more mature Christians. No matter where you are in the faith spectrum, there is something to be learned. I believe this study will help us as Christians to appreciate the idea of knowing the story of God and being challenged to live the story. Join us on September 8, and September 10, 2015, as we begin BELIEVE. Page 2

3 The Voice The Ezekiel Eight Submitted by Regina Dove Broadview Missionary Baptist Church s mission groups are on the move going into all the nations and tribes seeking to make disciples. During the weekend of July 24 to 26, a group called the Ezekiel 8, led by Anthony and Sandra Lumpkin, spread the word of God to residents of Fort Wayne, IN. The group of six adults and two children also included: Willie Jr. and Paula Ward, Denise Giles and Marcus Gipson along with the Lumpkin s children: Paige and Ryan. The group chose the name Ezekiel 8 because of its similarity to the name of the group s guide, Pastor Ezekiel Easton of Fort Wayne and the scripture As I sat in mine house, and the elders of Judah sat before me, that the hand of the Lord God fell there upon me, Ezekiel 8:1 KJV. The Ezekiel 8 had a full weekend of evangelizing to Fort Wayne residents. On Friday, they painted the outside of a senior woman s home and passed out tracts to residents of the Eden Green housing complex, during one of Pastor Easton s neighborhood cookouts. He regularly holds impromptu cookouts throughout the city as he witnesses to people with his huge grill on wheels that he connects to his Chevy Suburban. As is often the case when believers seek to make other disciples, they also get blessed. Sister Lumpkin and her daughter Paige, talked with a young woman at the complex about the Lord. The young lady became so engulfed with their conversation that she told her friends who were trying to lure her away to leave. The lady cried, it was beautiful, it was an awesome experience. The group attracted adults with children. Burgers, juice and face painting were available at the cookout. Although the group shared the gospel with many people during their weekend outreach, they were particularly inspired by a young woman who was in need and asked for prayer at the recreational center. Sandra stated, we prayed and she started shouting and shaking. The Ezekiel 8 continued to pray and provide her with supportive and encouraging words, it was incredible. If someone was describing that situation, it was total deliverance. She was freed. On Saturday with trash bags in hand, the group continued their outreach and participated in an Adopt a Block cleanup event. People wanted to know why we were in their yards, so they came out to talk to us, and we witnessed to them, said Sister Lumpkin. It beats knocking on doors. We need to do this in Chicago. Welcome to worship on this Labor Day weekend, as we celebrate all work paid and unpaid that s done for the glory of God and the service of others Welcome to worship, fellowship and a new quarter of Christian education! 4 Ordered Steps Submitted by Darlene Price The steps of a good man (or woman in this case) are ordered by the Lord: and he delighted in his way, Psalm 37: 23KJV. When God orders our steps, we sometimes don t see his orchestration until we step back and remember how things seemed to fall perfectly in place at just the right moment in time. The principal of the school where I teach was looking for someone from Tennessee State University with a degree in music. Not only did I have a degree in music, I was one of the very few to graduate from Tennessee State University with a Music Education license. The test was not easy, many people failed, but every step taken in my life was for a reason. I prayed to be able to do this and I wanted to do it for underprivileged children, said Jasmine Nicholson, regarding her new Band Director job. Jasmine is one example of a person who delights themselves in the Lord, as a result He gives the desires of the heart by ordering their steps. Jasmine recently landed the job of Band Director at American Way Middle School in Memphis TN, an incredible accomplishment for a 24 year old African American female. Jasmine didn t always know that she would desire a career in Music Education. God did; as he knew the plans he had for her and went to work ordering her steps. I loved listening to music. I could hardly do my homework without it. Step 1: God privileges her with a mom (Sharon Nicholson) who is a music aficionado, talented singer, and clarinet player. Step 2: Jasmine s 5 th grade music teacher encourages her to play the clarinet. Although she wanted to play the flute, she followed his direction. I had no idea how hard it would be but my determination to be in the top chair kept me going. Step 3: Jasmine joins her first orchestra in high school. I really loved the challenge of the music and it kept me on my toes because I was the only one playing my part. Continued on page 6 Continued from page 1 We all fall short when serving others, serving the Lord or surrendering to the Lord. May I say, if we are to have revival, God is requiring me not just to speak but to cry aloud, about our sins and transgressions. Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Hebrews 12:1 KJV. What weights and sins in your life are urging you to repent? Christians must seek the Holy Spirit so all sins, weights and transgressions are revealed and repent. Fasting, prayer and revival can heal us. There has to be total surrender to the Lord, Matthew 16:24 26 and do not go back and pick up those weights and sins. Please read Isaiah 58:1 14. Page 4

6 Ordered Steps Continued from page 4 Step 4: Jasmine receives a four-year scholarship from the Aristocrat of Bands. She sent a DVD of her musical skills and they were impressed. Step 5: When Jasmine plays in BMBC s orchestra, Jasmine receives inspiration, from Joyce McClain who also received a four year music scholarship to play the clarinet. Sister McClain helped inspired me because she still plays clarinet very well and it is fun playing alongside her. Step 6: Jasmine attends Tennessee State University. I wanted to attend Arkansas Pine Bluff but they were late notifying me. I also wanted to be in a Historically Black College band. They are so much fun! Step 7: Jasmine s friend works at American Way Middle School and recommends her to the principal. Jasmine interviewed over the phone for the Band Director s job, is hired after the interview, and is asked to go online to fill out the application, after getting the job. This is not the typical hire sequence. God is not typical. He is awesome. While God was ordering Jasmine s steps, she admits there was hard work, struggles and some shedding of tears. Now, I definitely see that every step I took was God ordering me because each step was taken in perfect place. I always asked the Lord to give me an opportunity to be able to use my talent to help those in need and I still love doing it. God has been faithful; His orchestration, flawless. 7 Strategic Planning Report Submitted by Rev Eric King Where there is no vision the people perish, Proverbs 29:18 KJV. This is the Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) report for September, Much has happened since our last report and there is still much more to be done. In short, the SPC and the Broadview M.B. Church family have completed the research portion of the strategic plan. This includes collection of BMBC data, the focus group SWOT Analysis, and the general membership church profile inventory survey. This data and the invaluable membership input were used by the SPC to conduct a Gap Analysis for comparative purposes and to assist in refining goals for the strategic plan. In addition, the Board and staff participated in a one day combined meeting/retreat, Leading With Vision, that focused on goals and objectives for the BMBC Strategic Plan This meeting/retreat was held from 8:30 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Broadview Baptist. The attendees heard from Pastor Parker, watched presentations by the SPC, and worked in small groups (brainstorming) to address the following strategic planning agenda items: Where is BMBC today as a local congregation? BMBC Data and Research Findings BMBC SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) Analysis Where do we want BMBC to be in the future (five years)? What should we be focused on today to make it more likely we will be where we want to be in the future? BMBC Strategic Plan 2020 Goals, Scripture and Example Objectives Development of five objectives for each goal area. All end results will assist in the development of the SPC Implementation Plan which is Phase III of the project. The next SPC update will be made at the September Board meeting and the BMBC Strategic Plan 2020 will be presented on Friday, October 23, 2015, at the BMBC Annual Business Meeting.
