Parker Verse of the Month Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. To celebrate this sacrificial giving, Stewardship Day is Sunday, November 11, The theme, Are you a Cheerful Giver, which is taken from 2 Corinthians 9:7; Every man according as he purpose in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly or of necessity; for God love a cheerful giver. Each adult member 21 year and older, is asked to give a stewardship offering of $1000 over their regular tithe/offering. Each Youth age 20 and younger is asked to give a stewardship offering of $100. If you don't have the full amount on Stewardship day, you can give what you can and if you desire to give the full amount, keep giving until you completely give your desired amount. The $1, or the $ is suggestions but you can give more or less. We don't want anyone to go in debt to give but please pray about what God will have you give (Proverb 3:5, 6) BMBC has offers multiple ways of giving for your convenience. There are the envelops which carries all the categories (Tithes & Offering, Stewardship, Missions, Mortgage Gift). You may also give using the church s website or from your mobile phone, by simply texting as follows: text BMBC and the dollar amount you want to give to click the link, complete your gift. If you have concerns or need help, please contact Deacon Harvey Bond or Larry Tolbert. Do you have a relationship with God? God loves you. The Scripture plainly says, And God so loved the world (so loved sinners, and that means you) that He gave His Only Begotten Son (gave Him up to the Cross, for that s what it took to redeem humanity), that whosoever believes on Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life, (John 3:16). Romans 1:16 (NIV) Just as Paul was, so has the Broadview Missionary Baptist Church family been over the last ten years serving in the mission field from Jerusalem to the end of the earth. To give God glory and praise for what He has done in BMBC missions these past ten years, Missions Pastor Walker and the Missions team are planning a day of praise, worship, and celebration. Highlights of BMBC members boots to the ground in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the end of the earth will stand as a centerpiece of the celebration. Video presentations, testimonies, songs, and sermonettes all will spotlight BMBC s passion and boldness for spreading the gospel throughout the world. Oh! What a day of rejoicing it will be! Invite your family, friends, and neighbors to rejoice with us. Let s all join together and proclaim, as did the apostle Paul, WE ARE NOT ASHAMED OF THE GOSPEL BECAUSE IT IS THE POWER OF GOD THAT BRINGS SALVATION TO EVERYONE WHO BELIEVES! Page 2

3 The VOICE The Importance of Thanksgiving Submitted by Kristine P. Scott What comes to your mind when you hear the words Thanksgiving Day? For many the mention of the word Thanksgiving brings to mind family, good food, football and fun. Yes, the fourth Thursday in November is a significant holiday. But what does Thanksgiving really mean? It is much more than the aforementioned celebration with food and family. Thanksgiving is significant because as Christians we know the importance of thanking and praising our Lord each and every day for the many blessings we enjoy. In church we know that giving thanks to God is always a part of our prayers. In fact, I Thessalonians Chapter 5: tells us to continually give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God s will for you in Christ Jesus. When we place such great emphasis on one day we should be mindful not to forget to include thanks giving in our lives on a daily basis. When we recognize the nature of our depravity and fully understand that apart from God there is only death (John 10:10 Romans 7:5), our initial response is to be grateful for the life He gives us. We ve all heard the story of the Pilgrims and their celebration of Thanksgiving going back to the 1600 s, However, it was not ntil 1941 that Congress ruled that the 4 th Thursday in November be observed as THANKSGIVING DAY, and subsequently passed legislation mandating it a national holiday. So now that you know the real reason for Thanksgiving Day, go ahead, get excited about your grandmother s sweet potato pie, your mom s turkey and aunt Emma s macaroni & cheese, it s all good, and so is the fact that we serve an awesome God whose praises and thanks giving should continually flow from our mouths. 4 November 2018 The Importance of Voting Written by Kristine P. Scott An important opportunity is right around the corner for Americans. Yes, Election Day 2018 will be here sooner than you may think. Many would ask why vote? Nothing ever changes, and they are going to do what THEY want to do anyway. I disagree. Voting is a fundamental right of all citizens; it enables us to choose the leaders of tomorrow and helps us to realize this very important part of our American citizenship. Voting is defined as an expression, an opinion or a preference. Yet in the 2016 General Election only 63% of all registered voters exercised their right to vote. This is bad, however not so much when you realize that only 72% of Americans are even registered to vote. I lived through the turmoil of the 1960 s when Dr, Martin Luther King and others put their lives on the line for African Americans to even have the right to vote. Yet here in 2018 we have some Baby Boomers (Americans born between ) who live through the Civil Rights era and do not vote! There s no excuse! Then there are the Generation X ers (Americans born between who do not vote, folks intelligent enough to know the importance of voting, but have the attitude that voting is a waste of time. Let s not forget Generation Y (Americans born between ), this group has simply disengaged altogether. It is truly shameful that people died for a race of people to have the right vote to influence the country in which they live, and the very people they sacrificed for simple doesn t care. Let s change this, I challenge you to make your ancestors proud on Tuesday November 6, 2018 go out to V.O.T.E. It does make a difference. If you are like me you want a change in local, state and federal government. Come on, we can do this. Page 4

5 The VOICE Veteran s Day Celebration.... An Every Day Tribute Written by Tamela Harris Veteran s Day is a celebratory day to HONOR America s Military Veterans living or deceased - for their Bravery, Service and Sacrifice to our country and their Love and Patriotism for our country. The History of this day originated in 1919 on the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice (an agreement made by opposing sides in a war for a truce) that ultimately ended World War I. The Armistice was signed at 11am on the 11 th day of the 11 th month November 11 th Veteran s Day originated back then but became a national holiday and an annual observance in In 1968, Veteran s Day was moved from November 11 th to be celebrated the 4 th Monday of every October but in 1975 it was changed back to November 11 th due to the important significance of the date. If the date falls on a Sunday, it is celebrated on the following Monday. This year it will be celebrated on Monday, November 12 th. Today, we celebrate our veterans in many different ways: attending parades; participating in the honorary national tribute (in which a 2-minute silent dedication is given to our Veterans at 11am); adopting a military family; giving donations to veteran charities and service organization; visiting a veteran s memorial site; visiting local VA hospital or nursing home; businesses giving discounts to Vets or servicemen on that day for goods and services; displaying of the flag outside your home; or by merely wearing a red POPPY on your lapel shows great significance in the remembrance of a Vet. Pay tribute to the Veterans in your life this day and EVERY DAY by saying Thank You and letting them know they are HONORED, RESPECTED, and significantly APPRECIATED. Headed by Brother and Sister Robert and Shelia Allen, the Family Day Committee led BMBC members and their families through a week of learning and experiencing the Five Love Languages. Each event allowed us to spend quality time with one another, the most popular love language among our Sunday School children. We shared words of affirmation during prayer and worship service; received gifts of dinner and a movie; were treated with a much-appreciated act of service in the form of free health service; and afforded an opportunity to greet one another with the language of physical touch during the ice cream social. The Family Day Committee provided us with the tools to Love People Back to Life. Now, all we have to do is use them. Page 6
