1 September 6, 2015 Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time Mark 7:31-37 Question of the week for September 13 - Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Reading I Isaiah 50:4-9 Reading II James 2:14-18 Gospel Mark 8:27-35 Key Passage Faith by itself, if it has not works, is dead. But someone will say, "You have faith and I have works." Show me your faith apart from your works, and I by my works will show you my faith. (James 2:17-18) Adult : Why should faith always lead to good works? Child: What good works can you do to show your faith in Jesus?

3 Share Groups School is starting this week and now it's time to look at your growing relationship with the Lord. Our Faith Sharing Groups have been going now for seven years and offer an opportunity for spiritual growth in our lives. Is this your year to take another look at what it means to be a Christian in the Modern World? These groups meet once a week to look at and reflect on the upcoming Sunday Gospel. Generally the interpretations are lively and exciting. There are no right or wrong answers, just how the text strikes you. There is a break and the second section looks at some aspect of our faith that is of interest to the group. Hopefully, many of you will find a way to participate this year. The groups are as follows: Sessions begin the week of Sept 13 and are at 7 pm. Monday - Quigley Group at the Rectory Tuesday - Elliott Group at 18 Quinlan Road. (Taylor Lake area) Lavigne Group at 34 Chestnut Dr., Willow Grove Wednesday - McGrath Group at 14 Border Lane (off Johnston Road) Religious Education Meeting On Sunday, September 27th, we invite everyone who wishes to participate in Religious Education at St. Joseph's to gather in the ballroom at H.O.P.E. Centre immediately following the 10:00 Mass. It is important that you attend this meeting so that we can determine how many families / children will be coming to our sessions this year, including the number of children that will be preparing for the sacraments - First Communion and Confirmation. We will have information for you regarding our planned programs and approach for the year, and we will be ready to address any questions that you might have. Once underway, our sessions will be held approx. twice a month following the 10:00 Mass. We are planning to continue with our family based religious education model. We strongly believe that the family is the first community of faith, and the most powerful influence on the faith of children and teenagers. We also recognize that parents are the first educators of their children, and as parents you provide the foundation for a spiritual and religious life. The family needs to be a vital part of the process of lifelong faith formation at all stages of faith development, and we realise from our own experience that parents often need help to assume their roles in fostering faith and a deeper spirituality within their homes. We are here to guide you, to teach you, and to give you the tools that you need to fulfill that role. The amazing thing is, as you foster spiritual growth in your children you will discover that you have grown in faith yourself. Talk about your win/win situation. Please mark this date on your calendar. We welcome any input and suggestions that you might have for us that could improve or strengthen the program, and we look forward to filling the ballroom on the 27th.
