Peace and good! I pray that you and your family continue to enjoy the Christmas Season. As we continue to celebrate the blessings and joy of this season, I share the following insights, 10 Christmas Commandments. A priest friend shared these commandments with me. I believe the following insights will help us keep selfishness in check this Christmas Season: 1. You shall not leave Christ out of Christmas, making it Xmas. To some, X is unknown. 2. You shall prepare your soul for Christmas. Spend not so much on gifts that your soul is forgotten. 3. You shall not let Santa Claus replace Christ, thus robbing the day of its spiritual reality. 4. You shall not burden the shop girl, the mailman, and the merchant with complaints and demands. 5. You shall give yourself with your gift. This will increase its value a hundred fold, and the one who receives it shall treasure it forever. 6. You shall not value gifts received by their cost. Even the least expensive may signify love, and that is more priceless than silver and gold. 7. You shall not neglect the needy. Share your blessings with many who will go hungry and cold if you are generous. 8. You shall not neglect your church. Its services highlight the true meaning of the season. 9. You shall be as a little child. Not until you become in spirit as a little one are you ready to enter into the kingdom of Heaven. 10.You shall give your heart to Christ. Let Him be at the top of your Christmas list. Anyone keeping these commandments is sure to have a blessed Christmas. (Anonymous) May you and your family enjoy the blessings of this Christmas Season and New Year! In the peace of Francis of Assisi,

3 Dear Parishioners: The Parish staff wishes to thank the following parish ministries: We thank our parishioners who share their time, talents, and treasures in the liturgical and outreach ministries of the parish during the Christmas Season. A special thanks to the Director of Music, the members of music ministry, and liturgical ministers who assisted at the Christmas and holiday Masses! Know that we are grateful for your commitment to this ministry in the parish. We thank our facility and maintenance staff who prepared the Church and grounds for the Christmas celebration and Masses. A special thanks to the Director of Facilities and the facilities staff for their planning, preparation, and set up of the Church Nativity scene. Their work added to the festive and faith-filled celebration of the Christmas Season. Many thanks! Once again we thank our parishioners who shared their time, talents, and treasures in the liturgical ministries of the parish during the Christmas Season and New Year. For all those who volunteered their time to share in the following ministries: music and choir, lector, Extra Ordinary Eucharistic Minister, altar server, usher, altar society, Church cleaners, etc. Your time, talents, and treasures bring the message of hope, peace, joy, and love to the parish. Many blessings! BANNS OF MARRIAGE I Erika Reyes & Andres Rosa Madeline Chessman & Philip Marlow Orfa Portillo & Alvargo Abrego Catherine Allen & Robert Powers Elbia Flores & William Santos Stewardship Presentation Cont d summary available to us. So, as we continue to celebrate our Savior s birth, we ask that we all prayerfully read and discuss these materials with our families and decide how we all can best make a return to the Lord for all the good He has done for me. Thank you for your time and continued generosity, and God bless. Greg Bengzon Marylou Bergeron Frank Bowen (Vice Chairperson) Cindi Conroy Tisha Hilliard (Secretary) Terry McNulty Jim Nash Mark Overberg Chairperson) Tom Reilly Cheryl Wilson As members of the St. Joseph Parish Advisory Council we would like to share a copy of our stewardship presentation which was delivered at all the Masses on the Fourth Sunday of Advent. Father Tom asked PAC members to speak with you briefly about stewardship, and specifically about sharing our treasure with the Church. We recognize that Catholic Charities and others have spoken at Mass recently seeking our financial support; our schools, universities and other charities are asking for money as the tax year closes; and with Christmas approaching, we are likely spending more than at other times of the year. So we acknowledge our timing may not be great. But, then again, our timing might actually be perfect. Our giving to God and the Church should really be an extension of our prayer and faith life. With our busy lives, we all struggle to devote time to God. The key, of course, is to make God and prayer the central priority in our lives and then fit everything else in and around our faith. So, too, with our treasure. How we spend our money reflects our priorities and attachments in life. The question we pose today is whether our financial priorities could use a little rebalancing. The Church does not dictate how much we should give, only that the faithful are obliged to assist with the material needs of the Church, each according to his own ability. We are asking that we all prayerfully consider the priority that our weekly free will offering is and if circumstances in our lives might possibly allow it to be a higher priority than it is right now. And we specifically ask that you use either Faith Direct or the weekly donation envelopes. One way to make financial stewardship a priority is to prayerfully decide what we can give, and then lock in that commitment through use of Faith Direct so that God gets paid first every week. But we know many people prefer to use the envelopes, and that s fine, too. The Diocese of Arlington has specifically asked St. Joe s to increase our use of Faith Direct or envelopes from our current 26% of parishioners to at least 40%. In our parish of 3,800 families, this would be about 600 families using either Faith Direct or the envelopes. So we ask for your help in meeting this goal. You can sign up for Faith Direct at faithdirect.net using our church code of VA101. If you prefer to use envelopes, you can call the parish office and ask. There will be reminders in the bulletin over the next month to help you. You ve probably noticed that there was a special focus in the bulletin during Advent on stewardship of our time, talents and treasure. Each family also should have received a mailing regarding stewardship and the use of Faith Direct. And the bulletin included the summary of the St. Joseph Catholic Church Financial Report for this past fiscal year. We thank the Finance Committee and St. Joseph staff for making this

Divided into 14 teams, they travel across the U.S. for nine months to share the Gospel with young people and their families. Since 1981, NET teams have led over 29,000 retreats and ministered to more than 1.7 million young Catholics. Peace and good!
