Peace and good! We are an Easter people and ALLELUIA is our Song! These are not my words but the words of St. Augustine, Bishop of Hippo, spoken some 1500 years ago at the Easter liturgy. Although they were spoken in a different language, at a different time and certainly in a different world, the faith which they profess is the same as the one we embrace this Easter. We are an Easter people and Alleluia is our song. We would be hard pressed to find a better lens through which to perceive the meaning of Easter than this faith assertion of St. Augustine. As we gather today after 40 days of Lent, after remembering Jesus last meal with the apostles, after reflecting on his unjust death, we gather to celebrate Jesus resurrection. As we gather together on this Easter morning we claim Christ s resurrection and what that resurrection means. We face the world around us without denial and recommit ourselves both to compassion and to the works of mercy. Therefore as an Easter people we open up our hearts and voices which capture our faith song: Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! I share this meditation by the spiritual author, Father Henri Nouwen: Easter vigil. The Lord is risen indeed. Christ s body did not remain in the tomb, but was raised to new life, and our own bodies will join him in glory. It is a great and powerful mystery. The body is not a prison to escape from, but a temple in which God s glory already dwells, and in which God s glory will be fully manifested on the day of the resurrection. Easter season is a time of hope. There is still fear, there is still a painful awareness of sinfulness, but there also is light breaking through. We can be joyful or sad, optimistic or pessimistic, tranquil or angry, but the solid stream of God s presence moves deeper than the small waves of our minds and our hearts. Easter brings the awareness that God is present even when his presence is not directly noticed. Easter brings the good news that, although things seem to get worse in the world, the Evil One has already been overcome. Easter allows us to affirm that although God seems very distant and although we remain preoccupied with many little things, our Lord walks with us on the road and keeps explaining the Scriptures to us. Thus there are many rays of hope casting their rays on our life through life. Easter is a time of hope and a simple awareness that no matter where you are along the journey of faith with God, we know that Jesus is walking with us. On behalf of Father Alberto, Father Pat, and the Parish Staff, I wish you and your family a joy-filled and hope-filled Easter. The words of St. Augustine challenge us: A Christian should be an Alleluia from head to foot.

We thank the youth who volunteered as altar servers for Bishop Loverde and our Parish Facility crew who prepared with the set-up for the Conference. Bishop Loverde thanked the parish community for their willingness to host this gathering and for sharing our Franciscan and Christian hospitality. We thank our parishioners who volunteered to participate in the different liturgical ministries for the Holy Week, Easter liturgies, and throughout the liturgical year. Know that we appreciate the sharing of your time, talent, and treasure with the parish community. We thank our parishioners who supported the Easter Flower Sale overseen by the Cub Scouts. Saint Joseph will be supporting LINK food deliveries to families in need. The deliveries will take place between April 1 and April 30 in the Herndon, Sterling, Ashburn areas. The deliveries will be scheduled between 6:00 to 8:00 pm on weekdays and 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturdays. We are looking for volunteers to fill one or more of the 45 slots available. St. Joseph s Parish is offering a seven week class for those baptized Catholic adults who already have received their First Holy Communion but still have not received Confirmation. Classes will be held every Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m. beginning on March 30th in Room 208. Confirmation will be given by our bishop, Paul S. Are you a person with basic home repair and maintenance skills? Have you ever painted a house or built a deck? Are you a professional contractor? If you answered yes to any of these questions, please consider putting your skills to use at Work Camp! Work Camp is an annual week long service opportunity for youth of our parish to serve those in need throughout Northern Virginia. We are seeking people with home repair and maintenance skills who are willing to share these skills teaching the youth and helping improve the lives of those in need in our diocese. Work Camp 2016 will be in Spotsylvania County, June 27-30, COMING SOON! Vacation Bible School (VBS) at St. Joseph Parish There are only three more positions to fill for St. Joseph's Vacation Bible School! Our VBS will be Monday, June 27th through Friday, July 1st from 9 AM to 12 NOON. We most likely will be using Hall C "the cafeteria", the school's music and art rooms, and the 6th grade wing. Games & Outdoor Activities (leader) Music and Choreography (leader) 2nd & 3rd Grade (assistant) I especially would like to highlight the Music Coordinator's position. We will be projecting professional made DVD videos on a huge screen or wall with children and adults dancing and singing the songs with the words also on display. The Music Coordinator would only need to teach the "moves' to the music and be the "head cheerleader" to guide and inspire them. No musical experience necessary. It will be a lot of fun! It is important to be registered if one is involved in any sacramental preparation, to attend Religious Education classes, for letters of reference and for certificates of sponsorship. Eucharistic Adoration is time spent in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament giving praise and thanks - in silence. During Adoration, the Eucharistic host is exposed and participants have a conversation with Jesus, pray the rosary or reflect on Scripture or other spiritual reading. As with any form of prayer, Adoration directs us inward, to the joy of a deeper relationship with God, and outward, to a more selfless love of others. Pope Francis said, "Jesus speaks in the silence of the mystery of the Eucharist." Wednesday evenings from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Nocturnal Eucharistic Adoration begins immediately following the First Friday 7:30 p.m. Mass and concludes at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. New members are welcome to come and spend an hour before the exposed Blessed Sacrament each month. We begin with a group prayer, readings from the Magnificat, a short analysis of next week's Gospel, and then a roundtable discussion. Every Tuesday, throughout the year, the opportunity to join other men of the parish to "Put the family in the hands of the Father" is there for the asking.
