1 July 2018 Calvary Cnnectin The time is here again fr ur midsummer patritic celebratin. Fr many, the Furth f July means parades and picnics, ht dgs and Cca-Cla. Ice cream and apple pie, baseball and bmbs bursting in air. Wrapping the Furth s fld f Americana in the Christian flag is enticing it is gd t ask whether being brn again shuld affect hw we view the Furth f July? Here are sme brief perspectives fr the Christian in cntemplating the Furth. First, the Christian s deepest identity must always rest in Christ. We still have lyalties and they may be deep but nne ges deeper. N man can ultimately serve bth Gd and anything else. In Jesus, in this wrld, we will always be, in sme real sense, pilgrims, strangers and aliens, sjurners and exiles (1 Peter 2:11). This means that as we Americans may sing the anthem tgether and pledge allegiance and enjy the parades and firewrks shulder t shulder. Our fellws in plitical liberty are imprtant, but nt as significant as ur fellws in Jesus frm every tribe and tngue and natin. Secnd, we may be bth prud Americans and humble nes. Given the fallen cnditin f ur wrld, we shuld be amazed hw much cmmn gdness by which Gd creates and uphlds natins bth gd and bad. Paul instructs Christians t be gd citizens t be submissive t rulers and authrities, t be bedient, t be ready fr every gd wrk, t speak evil f n ne, t avid quarreling, t be gentle, and t shw perfect curtesy tward all peple (Titus 3:1 2). Given ur sinful depravity, and the diablical desires that have a fthld in humanity, it is an extrardinary mercy nt nly that any are saved but that we live in such a richly prvisin and free land. Finally, fr nw, it cntinues t be legal t share the Gspel freely in public in these United States. This is a glrius Christian liberty. Let s make the mst f it while we can. I believe we live in the greatest, freest, mst Christ-hnring natin that has ever existed. But I als be we are citizens f a greater, freer even mre Christ-hnring land. Let s be prfundly grateful we have this cuntry t recruit fr the true ne. Let s be unashamed t seize upn ur desire fr life, liberty, and the pursuit f happiness, and shw them in whm such jy is truly fund.

These last cuple mnths have been specially challenging fr each family in ur Cmmunity, we are thankful fr yur prayer supprt t cntinue serving faithfully and financial generus gifts t cntinue sharing the gspel t all. We have been asking Gd t bring tgether three cuples wh can becme Fe Eficaz ministry partners t help with reaching the Hispanic cmmunity whse language f heart is English. We are reaching ut t first and secnd generatin f ur friends, adults wh have live in Nebraska City. We have many cntacts, friends wh knw abut Jesus and his wrk at the crss but we haven t witness a spiritual birth, lifestyles are ften dminated fr apathy and indifference t cmmit t becme Fe Eficaz cre team. Kids church Plant: We need three cuples t jin Fe Eficaz in planting an Hispanic church fr kids whse language f heart is English. 4 Children s Ministries News--July newsletter Our children s ministries is a wrk in prgress. In sme ways, it reminds me f the radwrk in Cuncil Bluffs--segments are patiently being built, with the end gal f having a functining, intercnnecting path fr all ur children s prgramming. Thanks t thse wh have stepped frward in the first phases f this cnstructin prject. We nw have several drivers fr the Sunday mrning bus, but we are always lking fr mre vlunteers. Gaylene Callahan has stepped frward t assist Vic Jhns in the 3-5th grade Sunday Schl classrm, and we are lking at the pssibility f restarting a preschl Sunday Schl this fall. If yu have preschl aged children and wuld like t see this happen, please cntact Juli Whitehead fr mre infrmatin. We are in the prcess f selecting a Sunday Schl curriculum fr the fall--stay tuned fr details n this in the next newsletter. Yur prayers and cnsideratin fr the fllwing needs wuld be greatly appreciated: --First and fremst, that ur children and their families wuld cme t knw Jesus Christ as their Lrd and Savir, and grw in a lving relatinship with Him. Pray als fr ur children s SS teachers-- Laura Pirer, Wendi Stenzel, Vic Jhns, and Gaylene Callahan. (Als Sarah Rberts, Jeff Parker, and Pam Baker fr the junir/senir high.) --At least tw mre drivers fr the Sunday mrning bus. Drivers need t be at the church by 8:20 n Sunday mrning, run the rute (usually with Pastr Juan alng), and then take the kids hme afterwards. This culd be nce a mnth, nce a quarter, r whatever schedule wrks fr the driver. Minimum age A scheduling crdinatr fr the bus. This persn wuld nt need t be a driver, s it wuld be ideal fr smene wh des nt want t drive but wuld like t help ut in sme way. This wuld generally require a half hur time cmmitment per week. These psitins are just small parts f ur cnstructin prject.
