Jim Fredonia, New York June 2018 Editor: Lisa Schultz Trinity Sunday, 2018 Dear Friends, I want to begin by stating how happy I am to have been called as the next rector of Trinity Church in Fredonia. This is an exciting time as we now enter a journey together. I am certain that as we begin to live the common life, it will be one which is insightful and enriching for us. Many of my earliest childhood memories while growing up in the Low Country of South Carolina relate to various aspects of life in the Episcopal Church: worship, Sunday School, coffee hour, parish picnics, the community. The Church and its people have always been a part of my life. During my time as a seminarian, and now as a priest of the Church, I have experienced our faith tradition in many places, especially in Wisconsin, Central and Western Illinois, and the United Kingdom. I wholeheartedly look forward to my move to Western New York for this new experience with you. The time I spent with the members of the search committee and vestry during my various interviews was very uplifting. We share an outlook of vision for the future of Trinity Church and its vocation for proclaiming the Gospel in Fredonia and the greater community. This is a congregation which turns to prayer for discernment on matters. Its leadership works together for the overall benefit of the community. I support the wonderful and talented music program at Trinity and I honor its association with the local SUNY campus. Music, and the arts in general, help enrich our life and strengthen relationships. I am quickly discovering that this is but one example of the many ways in which individuals of this community express his or her ministry. Outreach, Christian education, and caring for the other are a few of the many components found among the life of Trinity Church. Upon my arrival in July, we will move forward in a direction of further building up the life of this parish and, more importantly, our role within the life of the wider community. I will commence conversations with others to design a plan for our upcoming Fall Program. May we all be open to new possibilities and parish life events, as well as to new discoveries found in the midst of our relationship with God and one another. For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body Jews or Greeks, slaves or free and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not consist of one member but of many. 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 I look forward to being present with all of you soon. With all good wishes, Faithfully, Fr. Jim

A Note from Stained Glass Window Resources (SGR) Dear Trinity, I have attached two photos of a window panel in the disassembly department. The project is still in this department and another ten more panels have been rubbed and disassembled. It will be a few more weeks before the disassembled windows start to move to the glass conservation department to have broken pieces of glass repaired or replicated. From there the disassembled windows will be sent to the glazing department to be leaded up. As the process moves forward I will supply additional photographs. 3 Page 3 Trinity ECW News The Episcopal Cottage Tea at Chautauqua is set for Tuesday, July 17th. A sign-up sheet is in Garland Hall to let us know who would like to come. It is a great chance to spend some time on the grounds and meet other Episcopalians. We have gained a reputation for having a wonderful spread. Do come along. The annual Summer Picnic will be at the home of Cathy Berner on June 25th at 6:00 p.m. This is always a lovely evening of enjoying scrumptious food and each other s company in a beautiful setting. Keep saving those quarters for the Christmas Stocking Project. If you have not picked up your container as of yet, no worries, it is not too late. Pick one up in Garland Hall. Check out the new kousa dogwood tree in the front of the church given by the TECW in memory of Anne Cassidy. The spring rummage sale made a profit of $ June Outreach We will continue to collect Breakfast Food for Food Pantry of Rural Ministry Cereal Pancake Mix Oatmeal Cream of Wheat Breakfast Bars Please consider bringing one per week. A list of these foods can be picked up in Garland Hall. THANK YOU for your continued generosity. Bits & Pieces 14th Annual Pat McGee Memorial Dog Walk to Benefit Lakeshore Humane Society. Where and When: Saturday, June 16th, 2018 at Point Gratiot Park in Dunkirk, NY. If you would like to donate to this worthy cause contact Dominic Schultz 160 cans of vegetables were taken to the CCRM to help supply their food pantry. They were very impressed with how many we brought in! WAY TO GO! A Special thanks to Lee Blackburn for installing a window and changing the locks on the office door. This was done at the request of our new Rector Fr. Jim. Congratulations to Samantha Schultz for being on the Dean s List for the Spring 2018 semester and graduating from Niagara County Community College with an Associates in Arts with Merit.

4 Page 4 A NEW LOOK FOR TRINITY RED DOORS This summer our front doors will be repaired and sealed. At the April Vestry meeting we voted to paint our doors red following an ancient tradition which signifies our Sanctuary as a place of safety and refuge. Red doors lead to the holy ground within them, protecting people from both physical and spiritual harm. Today many Episcopal churches proclaim with their red doors that our churches are a haven for emotional and spiritual healing, a place of refuge and safety, forgiveness and reconciliation. In other words, red doors invite the passers-by into a space filled with the Holy Spirit. May Trinity be for you such a place. UPDATE FROM THE WINDOW COMMITTEE The Stained Glass Window Committee is happy to report that the fundraising goal of $180,000 to restore the windows has been met. The committee is also delighted to inform the parish that over half of those pledges have been paid in total. Two window lancets ($12,000 per lancet) are still available for memorial dedications. Subsequent pledges toward the campaign will be secured as a maintenance fund for the restored windows. The committee and the vestry also wish to thank the New York State Landmarks Conservancy for awarding Trinity $7,000 through their "Sacred Sites" grant program. 5 Page 5 Lemonade & Ice Tea Sunday Begins June 17th after the 9:30 service Pick a partner and please sign up to assist in our summer fellowship after the service. The sign-up sheet is in Garland Hall. TECW supplies the Crystal Lite for lemonade. (If you want to add ice tea, you will need to purchase it) Instructions for making Crystal Lite lemonade are in the kitchen. It is suggested to come 15 minutes before the 10:30 service to make the lemonade and to set up. THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO! Trinity Sunday School Sunday, June 10 Children s Service at Trinity The children write prayers, choose songs to sing, read the lessons, and recite their creed and pledge in Church. This service closes out the Sunday School year. Sunday school resumes after Labor Day.
