Reminder to Regulars Each year the 4:00 PM Masses on Christmas Eve are overcrowded. Our experience is that all available seating is taken by 3:15 PM for both Masses. Please do not reserve seats for others. This is not permitted. Thursday, December 25th, Christmas Day 7:00 AM, 9:00 AM 10:30 AM & 12 Noon There will be no Mass at 10:15 AM or 5:00 PM on Christmas Day Special Advent Reconciliation Schedule All parishioners are invited and encouraged to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation during Advent. The priests of St. Barnabas will be available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Saturday, December 20th from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Advent Wreath Candle The Advent Wreath Candle for the Third Sunday of Advent will be lit in memory of Pamela & Thomas Guerrera. Sanctuary Lamp The Sanctuary Lamp Candle will be lit this week in loving memory of Ted Schimoler from his Family. Bread & Wine The Eucharistic Bread & Wine for the week will be offered in loving memory of Brian Dione from his Family. Christmas Wafers In certain traditions a blessed wafer is shared among family members at the beginning of the evening meal on Christmas. This wafer calls to mind the advent of the real Bread of Life who came among us over 2,000 years ago. You may obtain the blessed wafers at the rectory. Your free will offering will be donated to parish outreach. St. Barnabas Choir Christmas CD The St. Barnabas Choir has recorded many of your favorite Christmas carols and anthems featuring Viki Sorrentino and Al Tepedino as soloists. The cost of the CD is $10.00 and is available after each of the Masses in the church lobby. This CD would make a wonderful Christmas gift to anyone who enjoys the wonderful sounds of Christmas music. Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors The sign up sheets for the Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year s Day Masses is now available in the sacristy. Eucharistic Ministers to the Homebound Please pick up your poinsettias for your home visits at the rectory from December 15th - 18th between the hours of 9:00 AM - 7:30 PM, and on December 19th till 6:30 PM. Keep in mind the rectory will be closed for lunch from 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM. Christmas Flowers Remember your loved ones, living and deceased, at Christmas by having Poinsettias placed on the altar in their honor. Weekly Meetings Al-Anon meetings are held every Wednesday at 7:30 PM in the rectory meeting room and every Sunday at 7:30 PM in the school cafeteria. 4 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS We are always in need of adult volunteers to help during Religious Education sessions. Please contact the office to get more information and to pick up the necessary volunteer forms. REMEMBER ALL VOLUNTEERS NEED TO ATTEND A VIRTUS TRAINING. If you have any questions on the VIRTUS training or need assistance finding a training session please call Margie Lampert at the Office of Christian Formation Important dates and information: Thursday, December 18th There are No classes for the 4:30 PM 5:30 PM session BUT there are classes for the evening classes Levels 5 & 6 at 6:00 PM 7:00 PM and Levels 7 & 8 at 7:30 PM 8:30 PM. Again there ARE classes for Levels 5, 6, 7 and 8 on Thursday, December 18 th. Monday, December 22nd through Thursday, January 1st NO CLASSES Have a Blessed Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year! 5 December 14, 2014 Hi everyone! This is the page for St Barnabas Life Teen. I m Peggy Harnisch your youth minister!! Hi Everyone, Happy third week of Advent! Today is Gaudete Sunday. It means rejoice and now that we are more than halfway through Advent, it calls us to think about the celebration ahead and become a little excited. Today s Gospel from John, talks about John the Baptist again. One of the things I love is that John is so focused on his mission of preparing the way of Jesus. When people ask him who he is, he always points them in the direction of Jesus. As more and more people came to him and questioned him, he never lost his focus. For me that reminds me to keep my focus at this time on Jesus birth and not become so consumed by the time of year and the busyness of our lives. It also gives us great hope if we are going through a hard time and maybe not looking forward to Christmas. We see the hopefulness of this Sunday in the first two readings as well. The beginning of the second reading is something to think about any time of the year: Brothers and sisters: Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. So this week, we light the rose candle in excitement of Christmas and rejoice that we have a God who would send his Son to live with us, teach us and save us!
