3 Bag A Month (BAM) Food Collection Program A Five (5) Year Update and Thank You In September 2013, The Parish of Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace and St. Veronica s Church began the BAM food collection program. As of July 29, 2018, you have donated $102,809 and about 28,000 pounds of food to the three community pantries we support. The program supports three local food pantries that serve Pike and Wayne Counties: the Lakeville Food Pantry, the Honesdale Food Pantry and the Loaves and Fishes pantry in Paupack. The program makes donations to the pantries on a rotating, monthly basis ($2,000 for the Honesdale pantry and $1,500 for the pantries serving fewer families). Community organizations such as the Hawley American Legion Post has been notably generous in their support of our program, having donated $2,400 a year to our food program. Thank you American Legion. In 2018, our local Knights of Columbus council, The Rev. William B. Healey Council #797, assumed operational responsibility for BAM. Thinking about joining the Knights? Stop by and get some information at the BAM collection site. We collect food at our churches on the first full weekend of each month. We request specific, nonperishable, highly nutritional foods, though we will accept almost anything: 1# spaghetti, jar of spaghetti sauce, 2 mac and cheese, 1 peanut butter, 2 cans of green vegetables, 2 cans of vegetable soup, 2 cans of tuna fish, 1 box of unsweetened cold cereal, 1 box of powdered milk, and 1 can of fruit. We ll even give you a sturdy bag to use for carrying the food. Feed the Hungry Family Event Overcome the Obstacle of Hunger Saturday, September 15th 10:00-12:00 Bingham Park, Hawley Cost of Admission: Healthy canned goods Such as low sodium soup, whole wheat pasta, tuna packed in water, no sugar added fruit (you get the idea!) We will be helping our own Monsignor Kelly stock the St. Francis of Assisi Pantry which feeds over 500 families a month! It is the only self choice pantry in NEPA. Many families living at or below poverty level suffer from health issues related to poor nutrition. In building the healthy choice options, we will help care for others as we care for our own. Please bring your new and unwrapped gifts for new mothers in need. All baby items are appreciated, but they are especially in need of diapers. They are also in need of household paper products and cleaning supplies as well as twin sheet sets.
