2 Message from Pastor Dustin The past month saw a rather surprising outcome in government with a Liberal majority elected into office and Justin Trudeau as our Prime Minister. Some people feel this is a golden age for Canada and others believe it heralds the end of the world. If your Facebook feed is anything like mine you ve been inundated with some of the best and worst of what people have to say on the issue. But God puts people into power, and he holds them accountable for their actions. It is his responsibility to worry about the future, and ours to pray. Whether you approve or disapprove of the leader that has been elected you have a responsibility to care for him and bring him to God. Whether you approve of our government, like their choices or are completely disgusted is irrelevant to your calling to pray diligently that the Spirit gives them wisdom and guides us together. So this fall add Justin Trudeau, the Liberals, the Conservatives, the NDP and the Green party to your daily prayers. Pray that God would work in them and through them to complete his good work here in Canada. Do your part by supporting good work in and around our community already in place. Take part in acts of social justice regardless of the source. Continue to pursue justice and freedom for the oppressed all around us. Feed the hungry, cloth the naked, minister those who are sick and injured and it won t matter who is in power because the love of Christ will touch hearts and minds across Canada and beyond. Children s Church As you are all aware the Children's Church started its curriculum on September 4th. We are looking for volunteers to help nurture and grow the future of our congregation. 4 How we came to Crestview by Kathy Harris My husband Bob and I lived in North Kildonan most of our married life but we moved MANY times! At this time we lived in a one bedroom apartment so we were rather surprised when Bob s mom, Maisie, was literally dropped off on our doorstep one day! We were glad to see Maisie & enjoy a visit with her but of course there wasn t much room in a one bedroom apartment for three people. For some reason we were busy and it was a month before we found time to take Maisie back home. By this time, we d asked her if she would like to come and live with us of course she desired to be with her only son! Bob grew up in Nakina, Ontario, 250 miles NE of Thunder Bay; it s a 12 hour drive there! We were pulling a U-haul trailer. We had only 1 day to decide what to take & pack! The little trailer was loaded to the hilt! We made it safely back to Winnipeg, except for 2 car problems, PTL! (Praise the Lord). Then began our search for suitable housing. When Maisie was dropped off, you could see the effects of her stroke sagging face, in a wheelchair. It looked like there was no one at home in her eyes she was lonely and sad. We wanted to rent a house (we had done so other times) with a yard for Maisie. God led us to the OTHER side of the city Crestview! We found a lovely side by side unit. We sent Maisie to two Senior Day Cares; at the one the ladies had fun doing her nails, her hair. We gave Maisie a job to do washing dishes (this made her feel important and wanted). Maisie loved going outside in fall to rake the leaves, going to restaurants with us; by the time she died she looked like an entirely different, vibrant woman! We d told Maisie that when she lived with us she would have to attend church with us (she had most of her life but quit when they moved to Geraldton as her sister was a Jehovah s Witness and she didn t want any hassle about church). Here again, God answered prayer as the church was only a short block away! Maisie soon became good friends with Grandma Ethel Maisie had Macular Degeneration but good legs, Grandma Ethel had good eyes but unsteady legs! We ve never been in a church where we felt SO loved and wanted! Bob and I totally agree that Maisie probably would not have become a born again Christian if she had stayed in Ontario; we were so grateful to Pastor Larry for helping to facilitate this! Maisie had problems with her intestines; she had one successful operation but when she had the 2 nd one I knew immediately that something was wrong but we couldn t get in touch with the Doctor, always a different one on call. After an autopsy was done it was found that she died of Peritonitis! Ah well, she lived a good life till 83. Anyway, the day the hospital called to say she was dying, we called church first. By 1 p.m. several people from church came and surrounded her bed I ve forgotten who was there but I think it was Sam and Bertha, Stella and Charles, Grandma Ethel. They sang hymns and prayed over her how awesome! She was alert and could hear, just couldn t talk. I ve never been with someone dying before but what a way to go. Later in the afternoon, Bob told Maisie you can let go, Mom and go to Dad and Joe, and shortly after she gave her last breath. A couple from church, John and Bev Robinson, loaned us their 2 nd car, so we could drive back to Nakina to have a funeral there what a miracle! When we got back, the church had a memorial service for us what a comfort! This is how we came to live in Crestview and got to know the wonderful people of Crestview Park Free Methodist Church! 5 Lemon Almond Cake Ingredients - Cake o 3 cups All Purpose Flour o 1 Tbsp Baking Powder o 1 tsp Salt o 2/3 cup Butter o 1 cup White Sugar - Glaze o ¾ cup White Sugar Recipe of the Month - 4 Eggs - 1 Cup Milk - 2 Tbsp Lemon Rind - 1 Cup Ground Almonds or 1/3 cup Poppyseed - ½ Package Lemon Jello Pudding (dry) add to flour - 1/3 cup Lemon Juice Directions - Combine Flour, Baking Powder and Salt. - Cream Butter and Sugar together, add eggs one at a time, beating until light and fluffy. - On low speed add dry ingredients, alternating with milk, mix well after each - Stir in Lemon Rind and Almonds - Spread batter evenly into greased and flowered tube or bundt pan. - Bake at 350 F (180 C) for mins or until toothpick inserted comes out clean - Cool in pan for 30 mins, remove from pan, place on cake plate Glaze - Heat Sugar and Lemon Juice to dissolve sugar - Brush warm cake with glaze - Repeat brushing until glaze is up - Let it stand overnight to develop flavor. Christmas Preparation This is a friendly reminder that the Children s Church will be working on the Christmas presentation for this year every Sunday going forward. If anyone would like to volunteer their time and resources that would be greatly appreciated. Please speak to Rachel, Monique or Abby about Volunteering.

A QR Code is short for Quick Response Code. It is basically a unique bar code that can be scanned by a smart phone that will direct it to a designated website.
