3 A Message From Our Pastor Hitting A Grand Slam for Jesus The other day I was watching the Baltimore Orioles playing baseball against the Houston Astros in Houston. Presently Houston is one of the best teams in all Major League Baseball. The first baseman Chris Davis from the Orioles was up to bat with bases loaded and two outs. Chris leads the team in salary, usually homeruns, and strikeouts. He recently resigned with the Orioles for a seven year $161,000,000 contract which breaks out to an annual salary of $21,118,782. As Chris took his stance in the batter s box I was rooting Go crush, go crush. The home crowd s nickname for Chris is Crush Davis, because every year he hits so many homeruns. Anyway, during his at bat I was yelling go crush, strike one, go crush strike two, go crush strike three. This was followed by a brief pause as I took a time out to consider Chris poor job performance. I began to yell at the television go home strikeout Davis. Somehow my personal ridicule would perfect Chris Davis swing from thousands of miles away. Go figure the logic of that one. I m an adult, I m a Christian, I m a Pastor, and yet I was yelling not so nice names at an inanimate object. The Bible says, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here (2 Corinthians 5:17)! According to this verse, who you are influences what you say, what you do, and how you act. Being a Christian, a person who is in Christ, means that my old ways of doing things are gone and been replaced with Christ s ways of doing things. Given the above scenario what would Jesus do if he watched Chris Davis strikeout with bases loaded? I ll let you pray on that one. In June, we are going to be starting a new sermon series entitled Who do you think you are? Like my baseball experience, so many Christians don t really know who they are in Christ on a daily basis. A consequence of not knowing who they are, they often say or do things that misrepresent the God they follow. Come to worship this June so you can rediscover who you truly are in Christ. That in fact, you are a new creation, meaning the old has gone and the new life of the Spirit has now come! Every day that you know who you are in Christ is a day that God can do an amazing work in you and through you for His kingdom. The Bible says, For we are God s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:10). When you start living in Christ, God s work in your life will start appearing to others as singles, doubles, and eventually grand slams for His glory. Brother in Christ, Pastor Kurt Rau Together Transform Tell 2

Each of us is a masterpiece, placed on earth for a unique purpose that's solely ours to fulfill. You can know God's dream for your life your chazown. Discovering your chazown starts with examining your core values, spiritual gifts, and past experiences. These three areas will help you identify common themes, bring clarity to your unique passions, and lead you to the purpose God has just for you. FLATHEAD FOOD BANK: Food of the Month: Soup! FLATHEAD FOOD BANK HELPING TO FEED FOOD INSECURE PETS: When people, the homeless, families, and seniors choose what to cut from their grocery lists, pets often are among those that suffer the most. Whiskers the cat is an 82 year-old senior s only family member. She gives up her own lunch daily to feed the cat she loves. If FFB can provide cat food for Whiskers, this senior can enjoy her own lunch and keep herself fed and healthy. It is because of stories like this that FFB collects food for pets who just like their owners, are experiencing hunger. We don t want to have you stop donating people food, because the need has never been greater; rather, we are asking you to consider donating in addition, a bag or can of dog or cat food. Sometimes, a simple bowl of kibble is the force that saves a family and the animals they love. Together Transform Tell 7
9 Council Minutes May 23 rd, 2017 Meeting opened with prayer. Devotion given by Tracey. The message compared Michelangelo carving to God s masterpiece of us. Connecting with Ministries- *Connie shared that GTW preschool school year is ending 5/24/17. Please continue to pray for Willow, the student with a brain tumor, her records have been sent to Boston Children s Hospital for another opinion on treatment. *Sandi is concerned about the sidewalk becoming crumbly. We need to check into fixing it over the summer. Prayers were offered up for ministries and for several of God s people. Treasurer s Report: Shortage of funds to pay operational expenses is a concern at this time. Discussion ensued as to how to responsibly prioritize what to pay and when. Council felt it responsible to use funds from our NY Life annuity to pay bills, since this was from the sale of the parsonage and was intended to be used for general budget expenses. Reminder that we have continued to cover a housing allowance which was not an expense before the sale. Motion passed to withdraw $10,000 from the annuity. FYI LCMC Gathering Update: Everyone that attended from Calvary said it was great and they learned new ideas about being disciples. We are to go out, not just wait for people to come into the church and not use tricks or programs to get people to come. Be involved and out in the community. New CONNECT Cards are now being used in the Sunday morning bulletins instead of the yellow attendance cards! Check out the new design, info & format; let us know what you think. Derek Miller has been contacted concerning his request for monthly support for his next step with YWAM. He is invited to share his vision with Council and the congregation. He has said the June (27 th ) Council Mtg. would work best for him to attend and share. We will keep this in prayer and decide once we ve heard from him. ACTION Worship Area Roof: Due to some rotted wood, some flashing needs replaced. Danny is checking with a roofer to see about making the correction this summer. Janitor Review: Jason volunteered to work with Danny to get the review done before early fall. Summer Worship: After polling the congregation for 2 weeks at worship, it was decided to keep worship time the same hour through the summer. 22% of the regular attendance showed a desire to change to an earlier summer hour worship. Kurt shared to continue to pray for God s direction in this for the future. Annual Meeting: After discussion, it seemed general consensus to work towards having the Budget/ Business meeting approximately 1 st week of October. Then a Ministry Celebration approximately the 1 st week of April. The spring meeting would also be election of officers. Kurt will check with other pastors whose churches have made that transition to get advice as to the process of changing. Executive Council will get the ball rolling for this transition. NY Life Annuity: We do have someone interested in being involved in a team to do research. It was motioned and seconded to move $105,000 to a high yield bonds 5% in the interim of a long-term plan. Please pray about being part of the team to research long term options. Nursery: we are looking for volunteers to cover Sunday mornings in the nursery. We would like to have this available as we welcome young families with small children to be part of our church family. Possibly a CPR class offered at the church would be helpful. We do have a couple people interested, but would like to have more so volunteers can rotate Sundays. Council Closed in the Lord s Prayer Together Transform Tell 8
