3 A Message from our Pastor Sharing Jesus with Others Monday night, October 30 th, we got a telephone call from Chris Hanson about his grandfather, Bob Hanson who died Saturday, October 28 th, at home in his sleep. Bob and Val have been long time friends of ours and the church. We first got connected with Bob when he brought Chris to praise band practice every week. At the time, Chris was a junior playing the drums in Calvary s praise band, which lasted for several years. After Chris left the band, Bob would continue to sing with the band for at least ten years. Bob also sang solos during various memorial services here at Calvary. I remember one memorial in which Bob did such a great job singing The Lord s Prayer that I totally forgot the name of the decedent. During the prayers, I kept referring to the decedent as Bob instead of their proper name. Many of us got a good laugh from that very memorable memorial service. Bob also would call me on a Saturday to ask me if he could take my wife out on a date to see the Glacier Symphony. Evidently, his wife Val was sick, and he didn t want to waste a second ticket, so he invited Jenny on several occasions. Learning about Bob s death has definitely been a downer, yet I m still thankful to God. I m thankful for having had the privilege to know Bob and serve with him over these many years. The Bible says, Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 5:19b-20). When you are feeling down about life or your situation, it can be very hard to give God the praise in that moment. However, don t lose heart because God can use all things for His good and His glory. One of God s greatest promises is found in Romans 8:28 which says, And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. You don t have to thank God for your problems because we do live in a broken world. However, you can be thankful to God for the strength and the faith that He will grow as a result of your hard circumstances. Happy Thanksgiving, Pastor Kurt Together Transform Tell 2

11 Thank You Notes Dear Friends, Thank you for your gift to the ministry of Samaritan s Purse. Your support equips us to minister to people who are walking through the darkest times in their lives whether they are military veterans suffering from physical and emotional wounds, mothers in South Sudan struggling to feed their children, or hurricane victims facing the daunting task of rebuilding their lives. Samaritan s Purse is working in these and many other situations to meet practical needs and share the comfort found only in Jesus, the Good Shepherd. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; your rod and Your staff, they comfort me (Psalm 23:4). Sincerely, Franklin Graham (Samaritan s Purse International Relief) Dear Friends, Thank you so much for your generous gift of $ to Our Daily Bread Ministries. I m grateful for your willingness to partner with us to make the life-changing wisdom of the Bible understandable and accessible to all. In May, we received a great testimony of God s life-changing wisdom in the life of a prisoner. He wrote: Our Daily Bread has been instrumental in my new life. I never considered Jesus until March 3, 2014, thru reading a story from the Daily Bread. Not that I boast but I have now read the Bible two times and have God s Spirit in me to comprehend the Scriptures. I was facing a 75 year-to-life (prison sentence). I was so low in spirit that the ground appeared to be above me. The Daily Bread and the Bible changed my outlook on life and helped me lean on Jesus for strength. It s wonderful to see how God uses His Word to move hearts by His Spirit, so that no one can boast. It s humbling when He chooses you and the work we do together and does something beautiful like this, isn t it? Thank you for your prayers and for sharing in this ministry through your financial donation. May God encourage you in your service to Him and help us all to be available for His purposes. Gratefully, Rick DeHaan (Our Daily Bread Ministries) Together Transform Tell 10
