Super Bowl Sunday!!! Wear your football gear to church as we look at the power of team. Then stick around for a souper lunch on Sunday, February 2, February 9-23, The 2014 Winter Olympics are upon us & many Olympians have dreams of gold. Many of us have dreams of living a gold-medal life. Join us on Sunday mornings as we explore how we pursue that kind of life. Reward! Did you complete the New Testament in 2013? If so, stop by the table in the foyer and pick up a bookmark that says you did. Great job! The Move Initiative is an intentional 3-step implementation of the simple church process summed-up in the words, Love-Grow-Serve. The first step of implantation aligns with Love and is focused on creating the most effective worship environment for engaging those in the community and connecting those far from God and/or disconnected from the church. As we move together as a church in this implementation, there are a number of strategic serving opportunities in which to engage: 1 st Impressions Team (Parking Lot Team, Door Greeters, Ushers, Section Hosts, Guest Follow-up) Worship Experience (Music team members, Readers, Reading Researchers, Sound & Video Techs, Video Researchers) Children & Youth Programs (Children s Ministry Check-In Hosts, KidzWorship Program Leader (1 st Sunday), KidzWorship Storytellers, KidzWorship Activity Leader (4 th Sunday), Youth Ministry Team Members) Small Groups (Small Group Hosts & Leaders, GroupLink Team) Identify where you want to engage & return an I m In card (available in foyer) to go all in. More information about the Move Initiative is available in pamphlet form on the table in the foyer or by request through the church office.

2 Page 2 Children, ages 4-5th grade are dismissed from the service each Sunday for KidzWorship. Every KidzWorship program is designed around 4 E s (enjoy, experience, elevate, and engage) and topics developed from The Big Picture (irreducible minimums that narrow the focus of the topics). Kids are encouraged to commit parts of the Bible to memory through the monthly Essential Truth and apply what they discover through each week s Bottom Line. Vibe (grades 6-12) is an intentional place for middle and high schoolers to catch the vibe of relationship with God and others. Vibe in Transition Vibe is currently in a mode of clarifying and developing a transition for how to most effectively connect and engage middle and high school students to discover the Vibe of relationship with God and others. Stay tuned for more information as it is available. Vibe BLAST Nights are environments designed primarily to just gather together and have a blast Blast Nights are currently being planned and developed Spring Theme: Experiencing God! It is possible to know & do what God wants!

3 Page 3 Stewardship THOUGHT OF THE MONTH The best way to destroy an enemy is to make him your friend. ~Abraham Lincoln TRUSTEES CORNER Treasurer s General Fund financial report: October 31, 2013: Income $107, Expenses $148,860.06, deficit of $40, November 30, 2013: Income $116, Expenses $162,151.54, deficit of $45, December 31, 2013: Income $166, Expenses $175,708.21, deficit of $8, The Lord has blessed this church so much this year. December was a good month. Playground Update: The Kinetic Recreation Company has everything in their warehouse waiting on good weather. Praise: You gave more than $3, which enabled us to upgrade the old playset with new child swings. BIG PROJECT: The repair of the old sewer lines is now complete. We still have to get the lower level floor finished and the men s room put back in working order. We are sorry it has taken so long, but painting the floor has had some setbacks. Thank you very much for your patience while this is in progress. Annual Report: Lately, I have been working on the Annual Report. I am very pleased with progress so far because last year was quite busy and expensive. That said, I am very happy with where the Lord has taken us and where we are now. We have been blessed with hard workers and generous donations. Pastor Dan said last week it seemed like people did not have a smile on their faces when he was at stores. It may be because of the weather or they just had lots on their minds. When things are going good, like it is here, everyone should be smiling or even laughing. So here is a start! Your continued donations of applesauce, fruit cups, instant soup cups, tuna, chicken and ham kits, small microwavable items spaghetti or chili, international phone-calling cards, signed greeting cards, signed thank you cards to military personnel, cookies, crackers, gum, hot chocolate, etc. are appreciated. Please place the items in the designated box in the kitchen. I would like to thank everyone for their cards, calls, prayers and good wishes during my time of recuperation from knee replacement. THE FAMILY OF RACHEL HENRY wants to thank everyone at Community Congregational for their concerns, prayers, cards & visits through the years and remembering Rachel when she was no longer able to attend church anymore. We appreciate the food provided by the Sr. Booster s & Women's Fellowship. It meant so much to us that you cared. Our blessing is that Rachel passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 3, What better place to celebrate the birth of Jesus than with the Christ himself. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ LAST SUNDAY, January 26th the congregation unanimously agreed to offer the position of Lead Pastor to Dan McLaughlin, who has served CCC as Interim Lead Pastor since April 15, As the interim period comes to a close, we look forward to Dan s continued leadership in the position of Lead Pastor. The next chance to help is Friday, February 21st GATEWAY COMMUNITY IMPACT TEAM Every Thursday from 3:30pm-5:30pm Next Scheduled date: February 6th Box Tops for Education Needham School is collecting Box Tops for Education coupons as a fundraiser for school supplies. Many cereal and baking product companies have these easy to clip coupons on their containers. Be sure to check the expiration date on each coupon to ensure that they are valid. A jar has been placed in the foyer to collect these small coupons. Please help us in our collection! Needham Connection

You can learn more about many of the CCC serving opportunities from the ministry descriptor sheets on the table in the foyer or by contacting the church office. You may also indicate interest by submitting a serving opportunities card also located on the table in the foyer for anyone who would like to serve. The Connections Team exists to cultivate relational connection and care points within the life of CCC. Relational connections matter, and there are a lot of different ways to make them. 7 minutes is all a church gets to make a positive 1st impression. The 1st Impressions team strives to create the most welcoming & inviting atmosphere of every person s week. The Community Connection team exists to create opportunities for those in the community to connect with CCC. The win for every community connection event is to create an opportunity for people from the community to have a positive experience on the CCC campus. If you would like to be a part of creating these kinds of connection opportunities, CCC Deacons would love to have you partner with them to organize and coordinate them. 7 Page 7 Small Groups Small groups offer a relaxed, friendly, and conversational place to discuss next steps in relationship with God and others. Each group offers participants a chance to gather (meet people), grow (learn about life with God), and go (impact the community in a tangible way). If you would like to learn more about group life, please contact Dan in the church office ( or dan@franklinccc.org) or simply return a Connections Card. Based on that morning s message, these guides are developed to help individuals, families, or small groups take the next step of conversation in relationship with God & others. If you would like to lead or host a group aligned with the Sunday morning messages, please contact the church office for more information. You Could Lead a Small Group One missing piece of the Step-1 Implementation is the addition of 1-2 seasonal small groups. You don t have to have all the answers to help add this piece. You could do it by asking good questions and facilitate conversation while creating a relaxed relational environment. Small Group Serving Opportunities Small Group Leaders Small Group Hosts Small Group Coaches To learn more about these serving opportunities, contact Dan at the church office or return an It Matters serving opportunities card (which can be found in the foyer). GroupLink is a one-night small group experience providing an opportunity for people to test-drive small group dynamics. If you would be interested in helping launch GroupLink, please contact the church office.

8 Page 8 Good deeds create goodwill which creates the opportunity to extend the good news of God s kingdom. The Community Impact CCC strive to impact the surrounding community through serving. Needham Elementary School The Needham Community Impact Team partners with the staff of Needham to enhance the learning environments & impact the lives of students & families. Needham (Elementary) StoryTime The Cove on (most) Fridays 2:30 4:00pm serving families in this community through a reading program KIC-IT KIC-IT (Kids In Crisis Intervention Team) serves homeless teenagers in Johnson County. KIC-IT is currently in need of nonperishable food items & disposable plastic bowls that can be placed in the microwave. Additional items can be found on the KIC- IT wish list, located above the KIC-IT tote in the coat room. Preschool minute sessions to improve reading skills (next opportunity: 6pm) Any items provided can be brought to the church & placed in the KIC-IT tote located in the coat room. Lunch buddies establish a positive relationship by having lunch with a student Staff event nights In addition to team members, the Needham CIT could use books donated to StoryTime as well as bottles of water and homemade cookies for The Cove. These items can be left in the Needham tote in the coat room. Gateway Services Johnson County Interchurch Food Pantry The Food Pantry serves through a variety of tasks on the 3rd Friday of each month. The next opportunity is 2/21 from 12-3pm. Wheeler-Lighthouse Mission The Wheeler team serves meals at Wheeler/ Lighthouse Mission once a quarter. The next opportunity is 3/21 & the team leaves CCC around 4:30pm. The Gateway CIT extends God s grace through interacting and engaging adults with mental and/or physical disabilities from 3:30-5:30pm on Thursdays. This team could use small prizes for games.
