Mind) As you know, our Youth Minister and Retreat Director, Mr. Frank Galligan, was accepted into the Harvard Graduate School of Education Master s Degree program in Educational Leadership. It s a wonderful opportunity for him and he will be sorely missed by us all as he moves to Boston this summer. After much prayer, reflection and consultation, I have decided to divide the responsibilities of the Youth Minister and Retreat Director into two positions: a Director and an Assistant Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry. This realignment will bring the energy and experience of two adults to our Confirmation retreat program and allow us to expand our efforts in new directions for our youth and young adults. After reviewing several resumes and holding a number of interviews, I have hired Mr. David Annese as our Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry and Ms. Gianna Procaccini as our Assistant Director. David is no stranger to our parish. He has been a parishioner at Immaculate Conception since the first grade, attended the retreat program in his Confirmation year, taught CCD classes as a young adult and chaperoned our retreat program the past five years. Additionally, he has been the Technology Integration Specialist at our school for the past six years. He is a proud graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School and Rhode Island College where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management. I ve worked with David for the past three years and I know he will be a great Director of our Youth and Young Adult Ministry. Gianna is also no stranger to our parish. She was baptized at Immaculate Conception and made all her sacraments here as well as attending our retreat program. After graduating from Assumption College, she was a member of the Camp Gray Catholic Retreat Team in Reedsburg, Wisconsin where she spent a year giving middle school and high school retreats. Additionally she was a Camp Counselor for the Alton Jones Summer Camp Program for three summers. Gianna was a chaperone at our Confirmation Retreat weekend last year and is excited about this opportunity to build upon our retreat program and offer more for our youth in the future. I know she will be a great Assistant Director of our Youth and Young Adult Ministry. Welcome David and Gianna!! Finally, we celebrate the 50 th Anniversary of the dedication of our church building this weekend. In the Book of Genesis, Jacob encounters God in a dream at Bethel and proclaims, How awesome is this place! This is none other that the house of God, and this is the Gate of Heaven. Our Jacob s Ladder over our altar recalls this dream and the angels of God ascending and descending upon us. Our church is the Gate of Heaven for heaven and earth meet in every sacrament. For 50 years our church building as been this place of encounter and thousands upon thousands of people have been blessed. May we continue to proclaim our church the House of God and the Gate of Heaven, and invite everyone to meet Jesus here with us. God bless you in the week ahead. Fr. Wilson

Community Corner Beacon Hospice, One Catamore Blvd., East Providence, is in need of Hospice volunteers. A Hospice Volunteer s gift is their presence. Typically the needs are simple, companionship and friendship, emotional support, someone to listen - but small things can make a big difference in someone s life. Hospice volunteers can assist patients by reading, writing letters, playing music, pet therapy, and offering spiritual support. Volunteers are supervised by a volunteer coordinator and supported by other members of the patients care team. The 2018 summer series begins Monday, July 9 th. Nearly 150 children from our school and parish are participating in one (or more) of the 13 programs being offered during our four week day camp! We are very proud to offer a series of programs at our parish school that engage children in challenging and exciting educational opportunities beyond the academic year. Since its inception in 2012, the Summer E.X.P.L.O.R.E. program has featured: - Nearly 1,500 registrations for 50 dynamic programs including, but not limited to, the performing arts, visual arts, technology, science, athletics, and Christian community service. Over 100 field trip experiences 18 academic exhibits 16 musical stage performances 40 professional staff members 30 high school & college-age volunteers Numerous guests & special surprises And countless memories!
