The community fosters the inclusion of persons with different abilities and challenges into the life of our parish. Many people with disabilities are waiting. The diocesan SPRED office provides training that helps catechists to understand how to share their faith will people with cognitive and developmental disabilities. 5 PARISH & COMMUNITY NEWS Community Garden Update BASKETBALL REGISTRATION The Community Garden has and continues to be very productive. Our harvests have included: White and Red Potatoes, Summer Squash, Zucchini, Cucumbers, Swiss Chard, Turnip, Egg plant, Lettuce and Cabbage, just to name a few. SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE The September meeting of the Social Action Committee will be this Tuesday September 18, 2018 at 7:00 PM in the parish center. We will spend much of our meeting in our sub-committees. 1. Discuss how our community garden is doing in it s first year + plans for next year. 2. Finalize plans for our Lecture Series this October. 3. Planning for our next meal at Emmanuel House. 4. Planning for our annual Collection Drive to help our neighbors on the weekend of October Increase our contact with local parishes to help our neighbors. New members are encouraged to attend this meeting. Share the Word sessions focus on the readings for the upcoming weekend liturgies and aims to expand our knowledge and love of Sacred Scripture and to enrich our faith journey. A NATIONAL DAY OF REMEMBRANCE Respect Life Month begins with Life Chain Sunday: Respect Life Month begins with Life Chain Sunday: The 1 st Sunday in October is traditionally the beginning of Respect Life Month. During October, we call to mind in our prayers and peaceful vigils all the innocent lives that are lost each day because of abortion. Join or host a Life Chain on Sunday, October 7 - we encourage participation between 2 3pm in front of your parish or a visible area. Reserve one hour to pray to end abortion and together, we will make a difference and turn darkness into light. For more information and to locations of Life Chains in the Diocese of Providence, contact Carol Owens at CLOTHES FOR KIDS A fundraiser for Clothes for Kids will be held Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018 from 5:30 pm-8:00 pm at the East Greenwich Yacht Club. This event is called Savor East Greenwich. Tickets can be purchased by calling Before Sept. 20, 2018 the ticket price is $25, after Sept. 20, 2018 the ticket price is $30. Live music will be provided and 14 restaurants will be present. You are asked to bring a winter coat for any school age child or new young men s/boys briefs.
