BENEDICTION POSTLUDE What a Friend We Have in Jesus Traditional MATTHEW 3:13-17 (NIV) Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me? Jesus replied, Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness. Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. 4 WE HAVE GATHERED AS A FAMILY OF FAITH Epiphany Sunday The Baptism of Christ January 10, :15 a.m. The Church at Litchfield Park, aspiring to be as inclusive as the love of God, welcomes everyone who comes to the doors of this House of Prayer for all People. CHIMES Jesus Loves Me Bradbury Heavenly Handbell Choir PRELUDE As a Deer/Fairest Lord Jesus arr. Mark Hayes BRINGING IN THE LIGHT WELCOME, REGISTRATION and ANNOUNCEMENTS CALL TO WORSHIP L: Welcome, friends! Today we focus our worship on Epiphany, commemorating the baptism of Jesus Christ. P: We are a diverse people, with many different experiences, including baptism, but all of us can identify with Jesus in our baptisms. L: It is in our baptism, the event itself, and its meaning in our lives, that we identify with our Christian faith. P: Today as we worship, may we gain a more profound understanding of our baptism and, in turn, a fuller understanding of our identity as followers of Christ. HYMN How Firm a Foundation No. 408 (Verses 1, 3 & 4) PRAYER OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY Epiphany Prayer: (In Unison) Loving God, today, as we contemplate baptism and its meaning, help us to recognize that, more than a single act in the past, our baptism is an experience that continues to have meaning in our lives. More than just our entry into faith, baptism is the beginning of a journey in our lives discovering our true identity; an identity centered in you. 4

5 L: Let us now pray together the prayer that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ taught us: P: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. MUSICAL PRESENTATION Manger Lullaby arr. This will give folks the opportunity to meet in the comfort of someone s home instead of a restaurant to share a meal. Each family unit will have the opportunity to serve as host. We will join in small groups and get to know each other better, enjoy food, drink, and fellowship, develop deeper relationships, and share the love of God together. Sign-up in Souers Hall. This will be the third fourgenerational showing.
