1 Volume 34, Issue 4 April 2017 CASTING THE VISION FROM YOUR DOM What I Really Want Someone asked me a few days ago what I really wanted. Here is what I said I want our churches to work together to pray 24 hours a day until revival comes. All revivals throughout history always started as a result of prayer. In the 1700 s, the colonies saw that the spiritual fervor that had been the norm was rapidly dying, so desperate believers began to pray for revival. Both churches and government joined in this effort. They prayed every day of the week specifically for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit and that God would send a true revival. Most of the churches and even the civil governments were concerned and they appointed days of fasting and prayer. The prayers were answered and this revival, known as the First Great Awakening, hit from the 1720s to 1760s. Rev. Jonathan Edwards, known mostly today for his sermon, "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God," was right in the middle of this revival. Edwards described the revival that took place in his hometown: One day God invaded the town of Northampton. The town seemed to be full of the presence of God." The bars emptied out and many Christians' homes filled with people anxious to be saved and know God. During this time it seemed there were entire towns repenting and turning to God. It was an incredible movement to Christianity. As America moved into the 1800s, its spiritual fervor began to dwindle again, and like before, desperate men prayed for revival. It hit, starting at Yale where a third of the students were saved before it the same thing happened on other campuses. Then it spread across the whole growing country, even out on the frontier. This became known as the Second Great Awakening. (Taken from CBNNews.com, American Revivals: Key to Shaping US History ) Every great revival or awakening in history has been preceded by prayer and fasting made by those desperate to see God move once again in the hearts and lives of people. If we want to see revival take place, we are going to have be desperate enough for it to pray until God sends it. 32 people a day are moving into Horry County. Who is praying for those 32 people a day? Will you join me in praying for our county and the vast lostness? I m not asking you to pray one time; I m not asking you to pray for a week; I am asking you to pray until God shows up. I m asking you to pray until revival comes. Are you willing to intercede on behalf of lost people throughout Horry County? In Luke 18:1 we read And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; James 5:16 says The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much; and Hebrews 4:16 reads Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. We must pray fearlessly. We must pray fervently. We must pray faithfully. I want to start a prayer chain to begin praying for revival around the clock, and I want to invite you to join this chain. Will you choose a specific time and commit to pray at that time every day for the lostness in Horry County? If you are, please let us know that you have signed up and what neighborhood/area you are in. I would like to see every neighborhood in our county covered in prayer! What do I really want? My desire is to see every home every person in this county reached for Christ and for God to send revival. With desperate believers praying, it can happen. Will you join me to help make it happen? Your Co-laborer in the Lord, Tommy Richardson, DOM WMU NEWS INSPIRE is the theme for the 2017 Associational WMU Spring Meeting on Monday, April 3, at Wampee Baptist Church. A meal ($5.00 payable at the door) will be served at 5:30 pm,, with the meeting to follow. Call Diane with a headcount by March 30. Purpose: learn about missions education, increase awareness of Southern Baptist missions emphases and goals, strengthen fellowship, and conduct the business of associational WMU. Program participants include a South Carolina WMU representative and Paul McKee of NAMB, serving currently as Mission Ministries Consultant for the Spartanburg County Baptist Network. Volunteers, Spend Saturday, April 8, 2017, 8:30 am - 5 pm (times are flexible) at Camp La Vida, joining adults (boys & girls, 7 th grade+ are welcome), using skills to prepare cabins and grounds for campers. Work needed involves electrical, painting, yard work, miscellaneous repairs, cleaning, plumbing, and carpentry. Lunch and refreshments are provided. HEALTH KITS should be delivered to the Association Office between April 10 (Monday) and April 13 (Thursday) from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. These kits will be used for local missions and others in need. Call Diane at with any questions. The standard health kit should include STUDENT MINISTRY UPDATE We are planning once again to take students to CAMP PINEHILL in Bennettsville, SC this summer. Dates are: June st 5th Graders (Deadline to sign up is May 29th) July th 12th Graders (Deadline to sign up is July 10th) Cost is $180 per person plus additional money for canteen. Space is limited for both, so sign up early. Forms are available from the WBA office. toothbrush; toothpaste; soap; washcloth; bath towel; and comb placed in a 2-gallon Ziploc type bag. (Note: packets for children with toys, too, if you wish!). For information, health kits (for both adults and children) were shared through local, state, and North American mission trips. GA Super Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Camp La Vida ~ a Girls in Action event for 1 st through 6 th grade girls and their leaders. Meet missionaries, make a super cape, go on a scavenger hunt, do skits, learn more about GAs and Camp La Vida, and earn a GA Journey step! $20.00 per person, lunch included, It is not required to be a part of a GA group. Larry Allen on Monday, May 15, 2017, at 10:00 am, at the Waccamaw Baptist Association, 1607 Ninth Avenue, Conway, to kick off the Season of Prayer and The Martha Compton Offering for Associational Missions. The 2017 goal has been set at $ per church. Remember: 2017 marks the 20 th anniversary of the Martha Compton Offering for Associational Missions. All children, youth, and adults are asked to take part in a Pure Water Pure Love missions support project to provide sufficient monies for a well (or 2 or more)! CASTING THE VISION Camp Pinehill is a week long camp run by the Pee Dee Baptist Association. The week includes Bible studies, worshiping, swimming, fishing, kayaking, archery, crafts, music, volleyball, challenge course and meeting new friends. 4 Page 4 CASTING THE VISION COMING TO OUR AREA June 10-16, 2017 June 17-23, 2017 The teams will be lodging at NMB Christian School, but we need several of our churches, Sunday School classes or mission groups to step up to provide, deliver and serve lunches to the crews at the work sites. We will need from 4-8 churches or groups to provide lunches the first week (Monday Thursday) and churches or groups to provide lunches the second week (Monday Thursday). Each site will have a crew of 8-12 people. We would love for your church/group to connect with a crew and fellowship with them as well as with the homeowners all week, allowing for the continued development of a relationship between the church and the homeowner after the crew leaves. This is a great opportunity for churches to reach new people with the gospel and reach out to them with the love of Christ. We also need churches who will be willing to host 1-2 crews (each crew is 8-12 people) in their worship service on June 11 and/or June 18 and then provide lunch for them after the service. These teams will be working on homes that were affected by Hurricane Matthew. We also need more homes for the crews to repair. Homes must have sustained damage as a result of Hurricane Matthew. We are looking especially for those homes that need to have the walls, floors, cabinets, etc. removed, homes that need drywall installed, roofing projects, etc. Call the office with the names, addresses and phone numbers of people that need this assistance. The homes need to be in Horry County and the damage must be storm related. If your church or group is willing to serve, please contact the WBA office. We will get you on the schedule!
