3 FUNERAL - Please pray for Sheila Johnson, formerly of Mytholmroyd and more recently living in Halifax, who has died. Her funeral service will be at the Good Shepherd church on Friday, 6 th at 11.30am. LIVE SIMPLY PROJECT The next Live Simply meeting is Monday 2nd at 7pm in the GS centre. Please come along and be part of the decision making for the development of our parish Live Simply project. This is a direct response to Pope Francis call to structure our personal, parish and wider life in the light of his encyclical Laudato Si regarding God s creation. It is a practical way of living out the notion that we are not alone and our actions can enhance or harm God s creation indirectly or even directly. Thank you. 4 COUNTING OF WEEKLY COLLECTION Can you spare a few minutes once a month to help count the weekly collection? Ideally 3 more counters are required. It would be great if we could have new people to volunteer from the parish community. Nick Burchnall YOUTH GROUP - END OF TERM REPORT Our young people s group has continued to meet every two weeks since the new cycle of meeting began in September. We are a small but stable group and have even added to our number in the last few meetings. Some of the activities over the past few months have been: Speakers / discussions on :Asylum seekers and refugees, Relationships, Justice and peace / Human rights Film nights (x 2) Sushi night Preparations and planning for a very successful Indian Food Evening for the parish BBQ Art night Games night Canal boat evening Most of these sessions have utilised the skills and experience of various parish members who gave their time willingly. Many thanks to the following for their willing efforts: Linda Oswin, Jean Marsh, Jo Woodhead, Tennyson Joseph, Moira Benoit If you feel that you have anything to offer the group for a session anytime then please contact Maggie, David or Gez. Update: We have received 33 completed forms so far. This equates to approximately 26% of regular Mass attenders. 2. If you have not returned your completed reviews please do so as soon as possible. Some of the returns have been incredibly detailed and clearly been given a lot of thought. Thank you for taking the time to give us valuable information which may inform some future decisions. 5 CONSULTORS MEETING The next meeting of the Good Shepherd Parish Council is Tuesday 3 rd 2018 at 7.30pm in the Parish Centre. SACRED HEART SCHOOL SUMMER FAIR The Summer Fair will be on Friday 6 from 3.15pm 5.30pm, the raffle will be drawn at approx. 5pm, there will be donkeys, a photo booth, tombola, bouncy castles, lots of stalls, refreshments, face painting and much more so come along and join in the fun! Grand Summer Raffle tickets will be on sale after Sunday morning Mass on the 2 weeks before the fair. ARE YOU GOING TO UNIVERSITY THIS YEAR? Make sure you look out for your Catholic Chaplaincy. Most Universities have a dedicated Catholic Chaplain based in the university or in a local parish. The Catholic Chaplaincy is a place for you to explore your faith as a young adult, to meet other young people. To find your local Chaplaincy, and for contact details of all the University Chaplains and Catholic Student Societies, visit CALDERDALE DROP-IN FOOD AND SUPPORT CENTRE There are still items which we have to buy in each week because we always run out. These are Tinned Rice Pudding, Sauce for Pasta, Curry Sauce, Coffee, Tinned meat, Tinned meals, Toilet Rolls, Washing Powder, Washing up Liquid, Toothpaste and Deoderant. We would be extremely grateful if you could concentrate on these items only if possible over the next few weeks. Your generosity is much appreciated. The box for donations is still in the entrance to Good Shepherd church. CALDERDALE SENIOR CITIZENS ORCHESTRA SUMMER CONCERT Friday 6, 10:30am at Halifax Minster This FREE event is aimed at older people, especially those who are often housebound and isolated, who may benefit from the opportunity to get out and about and enjoy listening to a melody of popular tunes played by Calderdale s own Senior Citizens Orchestra led by Judith McLean. If you know people who would benefit from such an event like this, please bring them along. We would like to encourage Care Homes to organise transport for their residents to attend. This event is in partnership with Calderdale Council s Staying Well Project. Refreshments will be provided and served at the end of the performance. 5

6 FR JOHN S ANNIVERSARY AND BIRTHDAY COMMENTS BOOK Barry Geldard is hoping to produce a comments book to present to Fr John to commemorate 53 years of service to the Catholic community as a priest as well as his 80th birthday. There are sheets to write any thoughts, memories or comments relating to Fr John. These sheets will be available at the back of church today. Please give your written contribution as one way of saying thank you to Fr John. This booklet will be presented to him in due course. DEANERY NEWS St Marys and St Albans parish, Halifax - THE 100,000 CHALLENGE - UPDATED TOTAL TO DATE - 22, Fundraising is helping our neighbouring church of St Mary s to renew the whole of their heating system. There are many events taking place to raise the targeted amount of money. NEW MYTHOLMROYD GALA - SATURDAY 7 JULY Dear all We're delighted to let you know that the 'New' Mytholmroyd Gala will be taking place on Saturday 7 at Burnley Road Academy Playing Fields from 11am to 4pm, After the previous Gala committee stepped down a group of local residents - Cllr Scott Patient, Barnaby Neale and Kim Wymark - decided to kick start the Mytholmroyd Gala adding the prefix New, with a view to putting on a more scaled back village fete-style event. They now look forward to bringing you a celebration of everything Mytholmroyd with food, music and games for all the family (and a few surprises too). Sadly, and despite their best efforts, the parade is not able to go ahead this year due to the ongoing works in the centre of the village. The Gala committee look forward to seeing you on the day and hope you enjoy the first New Old Mytholmroyd Gala. 7 DATES FOR YOUR DIARY SHRINE OF OUR LADY OF MOUNT GRACE, OSMOTHERLY A pilgrimage of Reparation and Consecration takes place on Saturday 14th. This includes Stations of the Cross, Exposition/Benediction and Mass. A coach organised by the Huddersfield SPUC branch leaves from Heckmondwike/Huddersfield at 9.30am via Leeds 10.15am. Cost approximately 18.
