Please feel free to introduce yourself to one of the clergy after the service. 2 A Note from the Dean Welcome to the Cathedral. A special welcome if you are joining us for the first time. Please, complete a Welcome Card if you would like to give us your contact details. The Fourth Day of Christmas We are still very much in the season of Christmas; yes, possibly exchanging calling birds, but a s c ti ui g t ce ebrate G d s gift to us all of the saviour of the world. This is the one, born as a poor, vulnerable child, who would show the world most perfectly what God is like, and the way back to unity with God. Like the shepherds eavi g the stab e, ay we retur fr ur services t day g rifyi g a d praisi g God for all we have heard and seen. May we also be prepared to tell others of the good news and encourage them to come and see with us. A Flower Festival Christmas Carols A wonderful spectacle that we might want to encourage people to come and see is the collection of flower arrangements that are gracing the Cathedral at the moment. Many thanks to the flower arrangers. When I met with them to discuss the theme of Christ as Car s, they did t reveal that we would be blessed with a veritable flower festival! Do take time to look and appreciate the arrangements. Many thanks May I thank everyone who was involved in making possible our wonderful worship over the last few days: all involved in planning, preparing, leading and tidying up afterwards. Included in this, of course, are the Director of Music, Assistant Director of Music, Choir, and Bellringers. Our worship does a good deal to make us feel a whole lot better and more blessed tha w u d be the case if we did t participate i such services. Let us pray that it a s makes God feel better! In Christ he showed that he is a God of limitless self-giving love. Surely, he must value the times when love is shown back in return. Watchnight Service I have been promised another memorable Ripon event in the form of the Watchnight service and procession New Year s Eve. This begins with a short Cathedral service at 11.15am, before the candlelit procession to the Market Place and a blessing by our diocesan bishop, the Right Reverend Nick Baines, the Bishop of Leeds. 7 Notices Wednesday Eucharists: Please note from Wednesday 7 th January 2015 the Eucharist will be celebrated as usual at 9.00am to Common Worship modern language and at 12 noon (instead of 11.00am) to the Book of Common Prayer rite. Do you want to know more about Christianity? Are you thinking about Confirmation? Do you want a refresher? We are planning a series of courses from late February to mid-june, leading up to a Service of Confirmation on Sunday 14 th Ju e. A Adu t E quirer s C urse wi happe Thursday eve i gs led by Dean John at Minster House; Confirmation Preparation for children in school years 6 to 8 will be on Sunday afternoons in term time, another course for those in Year 9+ will also be arranged at a mutually convenient time. If you are interested in any of these course, please give your name and contact details to Dean John, Canon Elizabeth or the Cathedral Office ( ). Salvation Army Food Bank First of all, a big thank you for the amazing amount of food that you are donating and continue to donate particularly at this time of year when heating costs are so high. Symbolic items from the Food Bank are brought to the altar at the 10.30am Eucharist, during the singing of the Offertory Hymn. This is to express that the gifts we make to the Food Bank to help others in need are part of our giving to God, acknowledging that all we have comes from God. The Cathedral Parish Booklet has now been produced containing information about opportunities to grow in faith; serve the community; support the worship and life of the Cathedral; fellowship and volunteering. Copies can be found by the main door or by the coffee area in the South Transept please take a copy, they are free. Giving by Gift Aid Our financial supp rt f the Cathedra s issi is an expression of our gratitude to God for all that we receive from him. It does strengthen the mission, however, if the Cathedral can reclaim any tax that has been paid on our offerings. If you are a UK taxpayer, please consider Gift-Aiding your donation.
