2 From the East Brethren, As I was reflecting back on past travels, it reminded me of some Masonic history and how that history might affect contemporary etiquette. When we encounter someone that we suspect might be a Mason but aren t quite sure, we might feel him out by asking; Are you a traveling man? If he doesn t seem to understand what we mean then there is a pretty good chance he isn t one. Of course this method is not fool proof but it has always worked for me. I suppose not every brother is familiar with the method of quickly evaluating a stranger as a brother and frankly I was unaware until an elder stranger noticed I was wearing a ball cap with our logo. When he first he asked if I was a traveling man it took me a moment to figure out what this guy was talking about. After all I was in an airport, busily trying to find my way to a connection and here is a guy asking me a seemingly coded question I hadn t heard before. It was kind of a secret agent moment and then something in the back of my mind came to life. I remembered being asked a similar question several times in lodge. So I went along with it; yes I am I replied. After a few seconds everything sort of worked itself out. It was like we two strangers had something in common on a level deeper than usual. We exchanged some small talk about lodge locations and how they do things compared to us. It was a nice feeling and I believe we both took some useful information home that day. So why do we use such a cryptic question in the first place? It goes back to our Masonic beginnings. Ancient Masons were considered technocrats and in demand for their quality building services. They were often allowed to travel over borders to places the average person could not tread. With the ability to see distant lands and encounter various cultures the Mason gained knowledge and experience rare to his home people. Today with travel so common we have every opportunity to do the same thing and it shows almost every time we open lodge. lodge is very fortunate to have visitors from lands near and far, we recently had a pair of brothers visit from Finland, several other states and many other local lodges. Had I not taken my Masonic degrees and education seriously prior to that day in the airport, I would have certainly missed a great opportunity to share that fraternal bond we are entrusted with. I encourage everyone that whether you are just out at the local grocery store or trekking a foreign land, keep your eyes and mind peeled for such an opportunity to exchange some brotherly love and bring home some innovation that we may share in our lodge. Let s grow our tree of knowledge by always watering it with information from beyond our local well. See you in lodge! Charley Hogwood and his lovely wife Courtney on the birth of their new baby girl Tessa! Best wishes and blessings from the Brothers of! It s hard to believe but it s already March. The time goes by so quickly. It seems like only yesterday that we had our re-obligation which was actually back in February. Our re-obligation reminds us of the oath we took when we were originally raised as Master Masons and the promises we make to ourselves and our Brothers who help us to improve and become good men. March will be an active month. We will have our regular stated meeting on March 14 th, and then our DDGM R:.W:. Roy Strohacker will have his last official visit with RH John Carter and the District #32 Committeemen on March 28 th. Congratulations to the brothers who were passed to the degree of Fellow Craft last month. The degree team who participated did a great job. I encourage you to attend the Entered Apprentice degree on Tuesday, March 22nd. It will be an outdoor moonlight degree being held at the Lake Worth Scottish Rite courtyard. Dinner will be served at 6:30 pm with the degree to follow promptly at 7:30 pm. Please come out and support our newly obligated brothers who are seeking light in Masonry. Come watch and enjoy the night of ritual while the full moon is out and listen to amazing music provided by our brother Jason. Lastly, Amara Shrine invites all on March 24th to join and meet other brothers from different lodges during the 2nd annual VIP event held during the annual Circus. The event is open to all and will be hosted by R:.W:. Travis Rout. It will be a great time with amazing food, great drinks, excellent music, and awesome fellowship. 3 From the South From the South, I want to start my message by once again thanking my amazing stewards and other brothers who have been serving on the kitchen crew. I greatly appreciate the time, dedication, help and endless support from all who serve in the kitchen. This team of Brothers has helped to make our meals and meetings very successful, and I couldn t make it happen without your help! Thanks team! I am looking forward to the upcoming Entered Apprentice degree taking place on Tuesday, 3/22, at the LW Scottish Rite Masonic Center. This will be an outdoor degree under a full moon. Dinner will be at 6:30pm with the degree beginning promptly at 7:30pm. We look forward to a great evening, so please come out to support your Brothers! Additionally, the official visit of the DDGM and his committeemen will take place this month on Monday, 3/28. Please plan to attend so we can fill up our sidelines for R:.W:. Roy Strohacker! Also, don t forget to mark your calendars for the Table Lodge taking place at on Thursday, 4/21.
