5 FROM THE EAST Greetings from the East As the seasons change for October, the leaves will turn, the birds will arrive and we may have the occasional chill in the air. For us in South Florida things may be slightly different, our leaves don t really turn, the birds are mostly snowbirds escaping the icy winter and the only chill we normally feel is a glass of iced tea. Yet nonetheless, fall has arrived though it is more about perception, that lens by which we perceive our surroundings. In Masonry we are taught about things that were once considered operative such as tools, aprons and building actual structures. Over time these physical implements have been replaced or rather upgraded to things speculative. We have stepped beyond the gates of the grand structures to that house not made with hands. Trading in the plumbs, squares and levels for what we feel are more noble versions of those tools. As Free and Accepted Masons we now attempt to elevate the art of fine construction to the building of a better society, we focus on creating better men. Freemasonry is for all intents and purposes a lens, that perspective by which we see opportunity all around us to share our passions with others, to set an example of the process that can make for a better person, a dependable and inspiring man. We as Master Masons have all received the invitation to make ourselves better; our responsibility now is to aim the lens outward. We can no longer afford to live within our guarded society; we must look outward and introduce ourselves to the community. We have much to share and there are undoubtedly countless men who are seeking to find where they fit in today s world. This has been an action filled year at Harmonia; we have done so many events, a great many are family oriented. October is a very busy month for our lodge, which leads me to think of how to capitalize on our mission. I am presenting a challenge to you. Think of someone who may fit the character that we need in our lodge and invite them to one of our Fall events. Use care when making this invitation, we want the best. Also, do not push the subject, make the invitation and leave it at that. If his heart feels it, he ll come. Consider ahead of time how you would describe what we are and then start a conversation with someone you are confident in. If you don t know how to describe Freemasonry, I invite you join in Kirby s Corner with the visitors who are being mentored. Sometimes it becomes difficult to explain what we do when we are so used to doing it all the time. Feel free to see it in action, I m sure Brothers Kirby, Hart, Riley and Taylor will welcome you with open arms to sit in and rekindle your spark. 6 FROM THE WEST Dear Brothers What a great September event, the presentation of the story of the Forget Me Not by our one and only Illustrious Brother Jim Kirby. Thank you for your time and effort. It is greatly appreciated. Congratulations to the newly obligated Brothers from darkness to light, and also to Brother SD Edmund Rodas and his degree team for their amazing performance. It s one of the best rituals that we ve ever had. We raised six Brothers to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. We were fortunate to have Brother Mike Hart who did the lecture, reviewing the degree for the newly raised Brothers. Thank you Brother Mike. Thank you also to Worshipful Tony Petrides for your guidance and assistance in making this degree a success. Congrats to all the officers of Harmonia Lodge for their amazing performance and dedication in making every degree the best it can possibly be. Bowling is one of the September events that we enjoyed with the Brothers and their families. Thank you to Bro. Edmund and Bro. Ray for their time and effort to organize this event together to make it happen. October 7th is our official visit of the Most Worshipful Grand Master Stanley Hudson. It will be held at Scottish Rite. Harmonia Brothers and yours truly will lead the kitchen crew. Spouses are invited. The following day the 8th is our Annual BBQ picnic at Okeehelee park from noon to 4pm. Come out with your family and enjoy this fun day, filled with a variety of food and games. 7 FROM THE SOUTH Brethren, First of all I would like to greet the brothers who are celebrating their birthday this month a Happy Birthday. May the Almighty shower you more blessings and keep you safe always. I would like to thank the kitchen crew who are tirelessly helping in preparing meals and the Brothers who are helping in cleaning the kitchen. Special thanks to Brother JD Ray Rios who regularly heads the cleaning of the Lodge and its surroundings. Congratulations to the EA and MM Degree teams for a job well done. Congratulations to SD Edmund Rodas and JD Ray Rios for a successful bowling event and thank you for the sponsor(s). This coming 7th day will be the official visit of our Grand Master Most Worshipful Stanley Hudson and it will be at Lake Worth Scottish Rite. I hope to see you there Brothers. Our Trestle Board The Chalk has always been a great and informative newsletter for the lodge but Howie Zusel has found a way to make it a true class act. Howie has turned The Chalk into a showcase for information. I want to personally congratulate Howie for his amazing work that is in keeping with Hamonia fashion. Masonic Education awaits you on every page of every volume. Talk about it and USE IT! Browse your Masonic Library at your Lodge. There are many books that will take you on your Masonic journey. The Pillars of the Earth is a historical novel by Ken Follett published in 1989 about the building of a cathedral in the fictional town of Kingsbridge, England. It is set in the middle of the 12th century, primarily during the Anarchy, between the time of the sinking of the White Ship and the murder of Thomas Becket. The book traces the development of Gothic architecture out of the preceding Romanesque architecture, and the fortunes of the Kingsbridge priory and village against the backdrop of historical events of the time. This book and the movie are excellent accounts of the use of builders and how Freemasons worked on construction of the Cathedrals. You may check this book & movie out, please find the notebook in the Library and sign them out. Please return them for others when you are finished.
