The Fruit of the Spirit America has increasingly been led by the works of the flesh. This is only natural as God has been systematically removed from our society.

Paul describes the works of the flesh as, sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness,

(Galatians 5:19-21) As of late, the rivalries, dissensions, and divisions among us in America seem to be reaching the same levels as we experienced in the 1960s and the middle of the 19 th century.

Paul warns us against such things as he writes, I warn you that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Whether it be the removal of prayer from our schools or the false understandings of the separation of church and state, without God the people of our country can only rely upon their own flesh. Paul describes the works of the flesh as, sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. (Galatians 5:19-21) As of late, the rivalries, dissensions, and divisions among us in America seem to be reaching the same levels as we experienced in the 1960s and the middle of the 19 th century. The other attributes Paul describes are increasingly abundant in our society too, with the rise of sexual immorality to the envy of others, it seems like there is no end to our selfishness in America. Paul warns us against such things as he writes, I warn you that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:21) With God slowly being removed from our society, it shouldn t surprise us that our communities rely upon these works of the flesh that have separated us from one another. Paul exhorts us, however, to live a life apart from those who do such things. He tells us to walk by the Spirit. To help us know what walking in the Spirit looks like, Paul describes the fruit of the Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23) These are the marks of what someone does when they are walking in the Spirit. These are the attributes we seek after, to reflect God s love for us on to others. When they see such things lived out in our lives, they are more inclined to hear God s Word and live their life in the same manner. If we can rise up as Christians in this country and continually display the fruit of the Spirit, then God can return to our society, if not in words, then at least through our actions. Join us in the Fellowship Hall every Wednesday evening from 6:30 until approximately 7:45. We are studying the history of religions. Bible Journaling Group Everyone is invited. If you like to doodle, draw pictures, color with coloring pencils, or just underline; then please join us for fellowship and doodling in our bibles. We meet in the Matthew/Mark every Wednesday starting at 3:30 pm until approximately 4:30 pm. Journaling is a great interactive Bible Study method. It helps you to interact with God s word by recording your thoughts on what you re reading. Going back through your journal can help you reflect on what God has shown you in His Word. And you have an heirloom that will be special to your family. This is a lot of fun interacting with others and learning more about God s Word. 5 LWML (Lutheran Women Mission League) The topic for August 2016 Circle meetings is in the Summer Quarterly on page 21 entitled Homosexuality Part 2, How do we respond in Christian love? This is a three-part Bible Study authorized by Rev. John Heckmann. This Bible study is being led by Rev. David Rolf, Pastor at Peace Lutheran Church Alpha Circle will meet the first Monday, August 1 st, 2016 at the home of Carol Head. This is Alpha Circle s Annual Summer Salad Supper and will start at 6:00pm. Topic will be led by Rev. David Rolf. Acolyte Robes will be checked by Dorily Miller for laundering or mending needs. She packs her suitcases with materials available from our Concordia Publishing House. As we travel, it gives us the opportunities to share God s word, wherever our summer travel takes us Christin Growth What is Christian Growth? Christian Growth is the meat of LWML. It is just a way of life for women who walk with God. Our Bible Studies at our meetings, conventions, and prayer breakfasts reflect our desire to grow in the knowledge of God. Christianity is like a five-pointed star: When the Christian prays he visits with God When he studies God s word he learns from God When he serves he reflects God When he gives he share with God We are encourage to be ambassadors for Christ wherever we are, be it next door or across the ocean. The Book Club will meet Wednesday, August 24 at 9:30am in the Social Room. We all need a plan for our money. Financial Peace University (FPU) is that plan! It teaches God's ways of handling money. Through video teaching, class discussions and interactive small group activities, FPU presents biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where you've dreamed you could be. This plan will show you how to get rid of debt, manage your money, spend and save wisely, and much more! FPU classes meet for around an hour and a half each for nine weeks starting at 6:30 pm, Thursday, August 18 th. This class is being taught by Pastor Rolf. There s an end that awaits us all: death. In this life, few things are as unnerving as our own demise. We encounter the idea of death and dying probably every day in the news, on countless television programs, among those we know but do we ever really think about what becomes of us when we re dead and gone never to return to our lives, our family and friends and those we love the most? In this booklet by Pastor Stephen Hower, human death and what Scripture says about the end of our lives is explained to Christians and non-christians alike. Examining biblical passages dealing with the body, soul, heaven, hell and other topics, Hower unpacks this difficult subject for the reader. In the final analysis, he reminds us it s our belief in Jesus atoning sacrifice for the sins of the world that makes the ultimate difference when our lives come to an end. 7

8 Sewing Bee The ladies s will meet every Monday in August. We meet in the Fellowship Hall at 9:30 am. Bring a sack lunch and stay into the afternoon. By mid-july we had completed 73 quilts and a number of lap robes. Please save your Best Choice UPC s and Box Tops for Education. Containers for these are on the shelf in the Narthex. Rally Sunday Rally Sunday this year will be on August 28th between the two services. Come and join us to celebrate the start of our Sunday School year and to congratulate our students! We will be having a light breakfast, playing some games, and having a good time with one another.
