1 1st United Methodist Church E 4th Ave - Miller, SD September 2018 So then, if anyone is in Christ, that person is part of the new creation. The old things have gone away, and look, new things have arrived! All of these new things are from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and who gave us the ministry of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5:17-18 Ready or not, fall is here! School is back in session. The college kids are back in their dorms. Friday night lights are the routine at the football field. And here at the church we are gearing up for Sunday School, Confirmation, and even planning for the Hunter s Breakfast coming all too soon. Fall always brings change the kids change grades at school, the leaves change, our wardrobe begins to change as the temperatures change. Change is just in the air this time of year. Change can either be exciting, or nerve-wracking, especially change that is outside of our control. We like to be in control so that we can either have things stay the same, or change as we want them to change. But, that just isn t how life works. There are many more things outside of our control, than inside. And so, we must learn to live with change, and deal with it in a way that is healthy and beneficial. God tells us in Scripture that change is happening, and will continue to happen as God works to reconcile the world to Godself, and back to God s perfect plan. God is in control of the changes in this world. And God is working to make the world as it should be. We can trust in the changes that God is bringing into being. We need not be afraid. Even better, if we know Jesus, if we have Jesus in our hearts, we are already a part of that new thing that God is doing in this world, and we get to help God do the work. We get to help bring about the change that God wants in this world. We get to help spread love, and peace, joy and healing. I don t know about you, but that s change that I can get excited about. Many will say that this is piein-the-sky thinking, and that we are naïve, but those people don t understand the power of our God. The God who brought all that is into being can surely right the evils of this world. But it takes all of us loving God and loving all of our neighbors to get this work done. We don t get to be passive in this. God says we ve got work to do, that we are a part of the work that God is already doing. So, are we going to resist the change that God wants for us? Are we going to be set in our ways, and say it can t be done? Or are we going to join in and start making the right kind of change in this world? Pastor Teresa

We intend to greet every delegate, dignitary, bishop, and spouse with a handmade scarf, to serve not only as a memento of General Conference but also as a practical solution to drafty, air-conditioned rooms. That's where you come in! We are inviting United Methodists in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota to help us knit or crochet 10,000 Purple Scarves. We are calling this initiative the Lydia Project, after Lydia in Acts 16. Each church is asked to designate a contact person [Judith, Church Secretary] for this project. Let Judith know that you are participating in this project and approximately how many scarves you plan to complete. The contact person will be responsible for notifying General Conference of the number of scarves we commit to making for June 2019 Annual Conference. If you are not a crafter but still wish to participate, contributions of purple yarn or $$$s to purchase yarn are very, very welcome!!!! See Judith for more information and/or suggested patterns
