2 Altar Flowers The flowers on the altar are given to the glory of God by Don and Bev Phillips in honor of their 65 th wedding anniversary on October 21. Church Office Hours Church office hours are: Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Appointments can always be made for other times by calling the office or the pastors. Pastor Dave s Roast: Today s fresh roasted coffee for coffee hour is Kenya Othaya Gatuyaini Peaberry. Caramel, toffee with dark plum and a Figgie Finish. Join us in fellowship hall 9:30 a.m.! Discovering God Anew Adult Education, Sundays at 10 a.m. Our experience of God transforms us and the world. God is not a mere idea but a reality to be continually encountered. Sometimes our ideas about God have failed to grow and we need to expand them to encounter God in new and more dynamic ways. Inadequate ideas about God, limit God s remaking power in our lives and the world. Join Pastor Dave this fall in Discovering God Anew. A great way to Live Lutheran! Parents with children who are under 3 as of August 31, 2016 are invited to come with their children to our Little Lambs Class! This is held in the library and begins at 10 a.m. each Sunday. Parents and children hear a story, do a craft and enjoy a snack together with other families each week. It is fun for both parents and children! No need to sign up just come! Sunday Church School, for children three years old through high school, takes place each Sunday down in the education wing, from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Children are welcome to join at any time! Youth Leaf Raking Day MPLC Middle School Youth will be raking leaves on Saturday, November 5 from noon-3 p.m. Meet at church for pizza then we'll head out in teams! Youth and adults, please sign up in the narthex!
3 Tuesday Bible Study with Pastor Dave Origins: A Quest to Understand the History of God. TUESDAYS; 10 a.m. 11:30 a.m. and 6:30-8:00 p.m. Pastor Dave calls upon his 37 years experience in ministry, theology, philosophy, and history to bring you a biblical survey extending from Genesis to Revelation. This survey of scripture will be a quest to hear and understand how the original audience of scripture heard and understood biblical texts. After discovering the original context, we will let it inform our own understanding. Too often we do the reverse; we read the text with 21 st century ideas and therefore distort or wrongly interpret scripture. This survey will also show how the idea of God matures throughout history. The Bible is the History of the perceived relationship with God through God s incarnate relationship with God s people. Fasten your seat belts to enter an ancient word with a life saving word for our time. 6-8 th Graders are invited to Youth Quake! Youth Quake will be at The Wildnerness Waterpark and Resort in the Wisconsin Dells Friday, March 24 to Sunday, March 26, To hold your child s spot, a deposit of $50 is due by November 6. The remaining payment is due by December 18. The total price of participating is $144 per person. Each child has the opportunity to lower their final payment by working at a Bake Sale which will be held in November. More information to come! Sign up in the narthex. See Pastor Krista with questions. Senior Choir / Christmas Cantata Senior choir rehearsals are held each Wednesday starting at 7 p.m., in the choir room. All voices are welcome to join the senior choir! The senior choir sings each week during the 8:30 a.m. service of worship. The choir has begun rehearsing for the December 11 cantata! If you would like to join the choir for the cantata, you are most welcome! Cantata practice takes place during the first twenty minutes of rehearsal in October, then in November it will be thirty minutes long. 5 MPLC SCRIP make mission happen As Pastor Dave likes to say You re going to spend the money anyway: Make Mission Happen! Do you need groceries, or gas? Do you have a Kohl s bill to pay? Or do you need to re-load your Starbucks card? If you use SCRIP cards to pay for those things, MPLC will get a rebate from those stores! Yes, each Scrip purchase you make directly helps youth and adult missions here at MPLC. Stop by the SCRIP table today and MAKE MISSION HAPPEN! We have cards on hand to take home today! Thank you! SCRIP hours are: Sundays; 9:30 11:00 a.m. AND each first Saturday of the month. Confirmation Sunday! You are invited to celebrate with us as 17 ninth graders affirm their baptisms on Sunday, October 30 at the 11:00 a.m. service. These confirmands have learned a lot about their faith and the church these last three years! Come give thanks for their continued commitment to the Christian faith! Cake will be served in their honor, during coffee hour. Racine Reformation Celebration!
