2 THE WOMEN OF ST. PAUL'S... An Apple A Day Keeps the Doctor Away! Wednesday, October 7 pm and a most interesting Fall Event! YOU are the guest along with your family and friends! Please plan to join us for an evening of perspective from our own April Behrens & our guest, Jere Schade! Having both been on Medical Missions, they will share about them with us followed by some delicious apple desserts!! CODE BLUE Project and the NGA Project are joining together this year to help with the Doylestown Homeless Program. Code Blue will be receiving the gloves, hats, socks and scarves for the 2018 project. If you are not creative and would like to participate, now would be a good time to start checking out the Dollar Stores. We look forward to the combination of these two great programs working together. Look for the upcoming decorated Christmas Box in December to bring your merchandise in for the many in need. 3 ST. PAUL'S ENDOWMENT FUND enables our Church to continue in perpetuity. Remember that it offers a nice way to honor or remember a loved one/ friend. Thanks for your contributions! NARTHEX Thank you for helping to follow these guidelines and keep our area welcoming! The Committee met again to explore any ways we can make our Narthex more welcoming. A discussion was held regarding regulations for easel displays, plants, and tables set up for a purpose with the following results: -New easels, now in the old coat closet, have been purchased so we have ones that "work" and all easels need to be set up where they are NOT blocking the etched glass windows between the Sanctuary doors (from the old Cozens Church) or any bulletin boards. -Tables set up for a Sunday morning should be taken down immediately after use. -The avoidance of artificial plants is preferred. If live plants are added, please contact someone on the Committee. -A message will be sent periodically to those groups using St. Paul's to kindly leave the area as they found it, returning chairs, etc. Please share any ideas with those who are on this Committee: Dana Lortie, Phyllis Davis, Betsy McCormick, Marj Salmonsen, Carol Shaw, Judy Anderson, Nancy Mongelli, April Behrens, Georgia Ford, Jayne Jacobus, Ron Shaw, Judy Snyder One of the special Sundays authorized by the General Conference to be observed with the taking of an offering throughout the denomination. World Communion Sunday is observed the first Sunday in October (October 7). The observance focuses the attention of United Methodists on the universal and inclusive nature of the church. One half of the proceeds from the offering is for World Communion Sunday Scholars administered by the General Board of Global Ministries. The remaining one half is to be used for the Ethnic Scholarship Program and the Ethnic In-Service Training Program, which are administered by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry. Autumn is a second Spring when every leaf is a flower. -Albert Camus Yes the anticipation of Autumn is upon us, especially those Indian Summer days where we can enjoy God s beauty & be outside, being active or resting our minds & souls. Hoping you all are slowly getting back into the routine of life after Summer s sun, and starting to consider your need for personal care such as yearly physicals, mammograms, flu shots and more. Please check the Parish Nurse board in the Narthex monthly, for health tips as well as reminders for local programs such as flu shots, or other local health programs. Take care of yourselves! Yours in health & faith, Gwynne Bee, Parish Nurse CHURCH GIVING is a way to give back to God by helping His church. Each year as St. Paul's starts gearing up from our Summer vacations, we start to see the faces we have missed. Our Preschool has the sounds of many little feet returning, our Sunday School classes are back running at full steam. Our choirs have returned, and all the activities are back thriving with much enthusiasm. We continue with the many Prayer Groups, Scout Troops and many meetings of the various committees starting again. At this time we need to also be aware that the use of the building continues to grow. Without the help of our Sunday offerings each week, this couldn't be made possible. If you are someone who has made a commitment to the church, now is the time to consider catching up. We appreciate all those who are up to date and we thank everyone. Our budget usually suffers during the Summer, so the Finance Committee appreciates those returning and helping the church by catching up with their commitment. In our love for our Lord and St. Paul's, let us continue our support to the many ministries that have been started and will start as our community of faith grows. Thank you from the Finance Committee on behalf of Your Church Sadly, we lost two special people at St. Paul s: Scott Schwebel and Mary Farrell. They will be sorely missed, keep their family & friends in your prayers.

5 Courtesy of Marj Salmonsen Christmas Boxes. It s a good time now to shop while the weather is nice and the supply is plentiful! Remember to choose a boy or girl and an approximate age, 3-6, 7-10, We will be collecting the boxes before you know it and sending them on to Samaritan's Purse. Imagine the smiling faces of those children who open their box that is probably the only gift they will receive this Christmas somewhere in the world!

6 St. Paul s Preschool News October 2018 Oh boy, school has finally started! Unfortunately, the rain has just continued to come down so there hasn t been much playing on the playground. I am so glad that Fall is here so that we might be able to get more sunshine and cooler temperatures. Even though the hallways had been very quiet and peaceful, I have to admit that the sounds of laughter and excitement are what truly fill my heart. Lots of copying and laminating was done by Mrs. Pinkl to assure everyone that safety must come first. There were playground rules and classroom rules posted everywhere. Mrs. Pinkl even made sure that there were schedules of field trips and that the fantastic fire trucks would make sure that they made their way to St. Paul s. All of the Preschool and Extended Hours teachers put up fresh and exciting bulletin boards to lead my friends into their new school year. Mrs. Neff even has butterflies going down the hallway to show her friends the way to their room. We had our first restaurant fundraiser at Chick-fil-A and had a blast. Our yearly milkshake drinking contest was won by a mother-daughter team of Mrs. Mawson and Gianna. They did a fantastic job! Thank you to everyone who participated in making this successful. Although some of my friends were very scared to meet the firefighters and go onto the truck, there were plenty of smiles, laughter and pictures. I could hear plenty of my friends reminding their parents to check their smoke detectors and make sure that they have new batteries. October starts so many firsts for everyone. It is the first time in the new school year that you will hear the kids singing and playing instruments in their music class. You will also see most of the boys and girls smiling for their pictures along with having them come back from their pumpkin patch trips with pumpkins. Even my smaller friends in Extended Hours will get to pick pumpkins at the St. Paul s pumpkin patch. This month gives way to all of our fundraising as well. There are so many ways to help St. Paul s! We started with our Kids Stuff books ($25) sale and then went right into our Yankee Candle Sale. The Yankee Candle Sale ends on October 8th and then we end with our Wendy s Fundraiser night on October 9th from 5:00 PM 9:00 PM. I m so excited to see all of the new costume ideas that my friends will be wearing for the Halloween Parades and Parties on October 30th and 31st. I bet you will see lions, tigers and bears. OH MY! The Extended Hours children are so lucky because they get to trick-or-treat at the Wellness Center. Can you imagine the stories that I will hear when they come back? I better start thinking of what I would like my Halloween costume to look like. Maybe I will be Bat-bear? Or Super-bear or maybe even an Eagles fan bear. Laughter, love and giggles to everyone!
