It is difficult to adjust because I do not know who is adjusting; I am no longer that old person and not yet the new. I have been thinking about this new relationship between you and me. You have been through trials and tribulations as have I. You have had to make difficult decisions as have I. You have had a few joys to see you through as have I. And now we have arrived at this place to begin something new again. Together, we will experience trials and tribulations and make difficult decisions and celebrate a few joys along the way. It might very well be a little painful. It definitely will be an adjustment. But it will also be a time of discovering who we are, individually and corporately. Here s to the adventure! Pastor Kay COMMUNICATION! COMMUNICATION! COMMUNICATION! The key to smooth running organizations: communication. One of the changes with having a supply pastor is the need to keep those lines open. Pastor Kay will not be asked to keep me informed of information coming out of council meetings. If you are in charge of a small group or have an activity planned here at church please take time to keep the office informed of meeting dates and times. The calendar in the office holds all the information that will go into the bulletin, LCR news and the newsletter. The newsletter is the vehicle which keeps all members informed. Articles for the newsletter can be sent all during the month. A thank you for event participants, upcoming events and general information all go into the newsletter. Because I schedule building use for outside groups as well, all dates when the church building is used MUST be on the calendar. Thank you for your attention and cooperation. Colleen Kaye WELCOME BACK At the last council meeting Bunky Layton was approved as a returning member. LCR welcomes Bunky Layton back into membership. Say hi and welcome next time you see her!

2 CONGREGATION MEETING RESULTS For those of you who were unable to attend the meeting: the results of the vote taken at the August 25 th congregation meeting to go ahead with a redevelopment plan for calling our next pastor was YES. There are more details in the minutes which were ed out. Copies are in the mailboxes of those members who do not use . WELCOME PASTOR KAY JOHNSON On August 18 th we welcomed our new long-term supply pastor Kay Johnson. She has been very well received. She is also serving our sister church in Blanco each sunday. Phone messages and s directed to the office phone and the pastor s will be answered by me (Colleen) each week. If you have a pastoral emergency during the week please contact Jim Ellisor and he will reach Pastor Kay. She is available for special events and needs here at LCR. MISSION OF THE MONTH: OPERATION GOOD SHEPHERD LCR refers requests for assistance to Operation Good Shepherd routinely so in August we will be collecting funds for this much needed community resource. (OGS) is the financial assistance arm of the Wimberley Ministerial Alliance. The OGS fund helps local residents with utility, rent, medical, and transportation expenses. All funds collected stay in Wimberley to help residents who live in WISD boundaries. The OGS fund is administrated by the Barnabas Connection, a community outreach program at Wimberley United Methodist Church. People in need of assistance are to call the Barnabas Connection at for more information. SMALL GROUP MINISTRY by Blaine Nelson We are ready to launch the Small Group Ministry at LCR! What is a Small Group? A small group consists of members who meet on a regular basis in a relaxed, informal, caring environment for the purpose of: Growing in their personal relationship with Christ. Building personal relationships. Spreading the good news of life in Jesus Christ. Growing in their ability to serve and minister to others. To kick off this ministry Ron and Gayle Weir, Dianne and Travis Kilpatrick and Blaine Nelson/Frank Bauer have offered to host the first small group gatherings in their homes in the next couple of weeks. You will be invited by the host to attend the first gathering for your group. Our hope is to build our church community, get to know each other (kids included) and let each group determine the direction and activities they want to pursue.

3 RALLY DAY SEPTEMBER 8 Rally Day September 8 th at 9:30 AM. All are invited for food, fellowship and our first Sunday School classes of the year. We will have a potluck lunch after worship. See the sign-up sheet on the welcome table. Mark your calendars and help us kick off the new school year. ELCA 25 th Anniversary Sunday, Sept. 8 th As part of the ELCA Anniversary celebration LCR will take part in "God's work, Our hands" Sunday, a day dedicated to serving our community. On that Sunday, LCR will be among the ELCA s 4 million members, nearly 10,000 congregations, and 65 synods in a church-wide expression of loving and serving our neighbors in Christ. LCR will hold a Food Drive to benefit Crisis Bread Basket. The items most needed include cereal, canned fruit, canned meats, peanut butter and jelly, but any canned items are appreciated. Items will be collected and blessed on Sunday, Sept. 8 th. Please be generous and shop for food as if you were shopping for a birthday gift for a friend or relative. We can make a difference! Thanks to...blaine Nelson, JoAnne Miller, Shirley Schliessmann and Lynn, Madelyn, Hannah, and Bella Raska for working at Back-to-School Fiesta August Blaine Nelson, Mike and Shirley Schliessmann for serving LCR's breakfast for the day laborers on August 10. If you ve been in the kitchen lately you might notice how nicely organized and clean things are. Thanks to JoAnne Miller, Angie Rose, Shirley Schliessmann, Lori Temoney, Bella and Hannah Raska for cleaning everything on July 31 st. Word was that Bella and Hannah were invaluable in getting down and working on the lower cabinets. MEXICAN TRAIN An event that takes place each month at the church and is open to all who wish to come and join the fun. In case you aren t aware this is a dominoes game. If you ve never heard of it and wish to learn come and join us. Whether you are an expert or a beginner you will fit right in with this crowd of LCR folks. We play on the 3 rd Thursday of the month, beginning at 1:00PM. The next date is Thursday, September 19 th. Angie Rose is our hostess in September. If you would like to be on the list of dates, please contact Shirley Schliessmann.

4 HAND & FOOT It s a card game similar to Canasta and fun to play. We play on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 1:00 PM. In September we will play on the 9 th and the 23 rd. If you want to be on the reminder list, contact Colleen at PRAYER SHAWL School has started, everyone is back from vacations and travels so it must be time to start our monthly gatherings to create prayer shawls and share some good fellowship. We will meet on Saturday, September 14 th at the home of Lynn Raska at 1:00 PM. Please check the sign-up sheet on the welcome table. Knitters and crocheters are always welcome to join us. We have prayer shawls that are available to all members for family and friends in need of some blessing and comfort through a prayer shawl. Please see Harriet Powell for more information. MARK YOUR CALENDARS: QUILT AND SCARF SALE For those of us who like to start our Christmas shopping early: what a great way to start! The quilt and prayer shawl groups have combined to offer LWR quilts and handmade scarves for sale in October. On two Sundays, the 13 th and 20 th, the items will be for sale in the fellowship hall. Lots of volunteers have been knitting and such to create some really attractive scarves. All of the funds received go to continue the work of these two groups by purchasing supplies. We continue to pray for all who are ill and recovering and receiving treatments or testing and for Danny Hickman, Madelyn Raska, Robert Sherwood, Betty Spickler, Pat Spickler, Greg Gibson, Paul Toudouze, Mari Johanson, Andrew McCauley, John Reid, Ken Ditty (friend of Dirk Dierking), Kerry Johnson (friend of Beverly Ladzinski), Phyllis Moore (friend of Angie Rose), Donna Curtis (Mary Rodger s sister), Bruce Karpolo (Beverly Ladzinski s nephew), Katherine Self (grandniece of Dirk Dierking), Megan Wolfe and Dave & Ann Bradley (friends of the Sherwoods), and all care givers that devote their time to care for those they love. Please be in prayer for our family and friends who are serving our country either stateside or overseas. Pray daily for peace in our world and for all who suffer the consequences of war. We continue to pray for those who are hungry and for those who serve them. Please be in prayer for the Lord to replenish the earth as God sees fit. We also lift in prayer the families that are struggling with separation and divorce. CHRISTMAS CONCERT REHEARSALS BEGIN The Wimberley Community Chorus is beginning rehearsals for the Christmas concerts on Monday, September 9 th at 6:45 PM. They are being held at the Chapel in the Hills and directed by Anne Jones. For additional information please contact Dixie Camp, WCC President at or The concerts will be December 6, 7, and 8. 5 LUTHERAN FALL FESTIVAL September 21 st is the date for this years Fall Festival in Fredericksburg. It runs from 9am to 3 pm at the Fredericksburg Marktplatz. All proceeds will benefit Cross Trails Ministry and go toward a new Ebert Ranch Camp entry and a Welcome Center, housing an office, infirmary and camp store. A portion of the funds will be matched by Thrivent Financial. There is a wide range of activities to enjoy: 5Krun, Chili Cook-off, Dessert Bake-Off, Artisan craft vendors, silent auction, children s activities and more! Check out the fliers on the welcome table for more info STAYING GREEN We continue to recycle used printer cartridges and cell phones. Cell phones can be any model and you don t need to hunt down any of the accessories. All they want are the phones. LCR receives funds for these recycled items at no cost they even pay the shipping! Check out the boxes right outside the sanctuary.
