Whether it s a move, a broken relationship, even a death, there s an emptiness that s never far off. But that s the chance we take, isn t it? When we sign on to a relationship of any kind there s bound to be a bump in the road, sometimes even one that takes a heavy toll on our hearts. Jesus offers a wonderful model of how to handle goodbyes. It s called faithfulness. He counted faithfulness to and intimacy with his Father as the most important thing in all the universe. It s not that the goodbyes didn t matter, but rather that his ultimate relationship was the foundation of his soul, and that s what made the difference. And that s how it can be with us. You are on the verge of an unprecedented event: the arrival of a new pastor. By the time you read this, Ruthanne Herrington's arrival will be just a week or two away. The best thing you can do in preparation is to renew your commitment to Christ and the world he died to save. Also, by the time you read this, my time of service as your interim pastor will have been completed. I'll treasure these past two years and hold you close. So God bless you, Faith Community! 3 VOLUME 42 ISSUE 03 Faith Community Presbyterian Church PAGE 3 CONFIRMATION CLASS READY FOR THE BIG QUESTIONS The Confirmation Class has been busy learning more about the life of Christ and their relationship with Him. They are also exploring their journeys of faith and their role in Faith Community. To help them, they have heard from several members of our church family who shared their faith journey and where they are today. This has been very beneficial for their learning experience. Over the next few weeks they will write their own Statements of Faith and participate in mission or service projects in the church. As part of this journey, we ask what we remember from our own baptism or confirmation. One of the students commented she recalls her little sister getting baptized but not the questions. April 7 is Confirmation Sunday and they are ready to respond to the Big question and to become voting members of the congregation. FELLOWSHIP FAMILY BOWLING Sunday, March 17 at 3 pm Let s bowl! Bowlers will meet at Novi Bowl, Novi Rd., Novi followed by dinner at Border Cantina, Novi Rd., Novi. Last year's high-scorers and bowling pin trophy winners were Sharon Brandon and Barb Crawford. Who will challenge these bowlers? No doubt there will be St. Patrick's Day fun, too. Contact Barb Crawford if you have any questions. LET S BOWL! 2019 FLOWER CHART The flower chart for 2019 is posted by the drinking fountain in the narthex. Please sign up to donate the flowers that honor God each week in worship. Flowers can be given in celebration of, in honor of, or in memory of someone or something in your life. Cost is $40.The church office coordinates with the florist and contacts you regarding payment and dedication. Never be afraid to try. Amateurs built the ark, Professionals built the Titanic.

4 PAGE 4 Faith Community Presbyterian Church VOLUME 42 ISSUE 03 ADULT BIBLE STUDY There will be a Lenten Bible study starting March 3, We will be reading and discussing Wind In The Wilderness: A Lenten Study From The Prophets by DJ del Rosario. This will be a 6 week study exploring how the Prophets prepared the way for Jesus teaching, healing, death and resurrection. Classes will be held at 9:00 am on Sundays. MEN S QUARTERLY BREAKFAST The men s quarterly breakfast meets at 8:30 am on Saturday morning to converse and have a little breakfast. Schedule is as follows: Saturday, March 2 Saturday, June 1 Saturday, September 7 Saturday, December 7 Ardrianna s Restaurant at W. Ten Mile Rd. in Novi is the meeting place. B.Y.O.B. (buy your own breakfast). Contact Mike Everett with any questions. MARCH WOMEN S GROUP Tuesday, March 5 12:30-2 pm We will be discussing the book Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate. This is a fictional account of a truelife scandal about a woman in Memphis who kidnapped children from poor families and adopted them to families of privilege from It tells the story from the perspective of the children who were taken from their family and a woman from a wealthy family who looks into her families' past secrets. Lunch will be provided. If you plan to attend please use the sign up sheet in the narthex. Linda Schoener and Angela Ryan will lead the discussion.

If you plan on donating cell phones, please include as many of the accessories as possible (charging cords, owners manuals, etc.). Place all items into a plastic bag or small box. Eye glasses should have both lenses in tack. We even found a place to donate old hearing aids. Where do your donations go? Cell phones are refurbished and given to soldiers on deployment. Eye glasses go to the Lion s Club who give them to those who cannot otherwise afford them. BAKED CHICKEN FAJITAS 1 1/2 pounds chicken tenders, cut into strips 14 oz. diced tomatoes with chilies 1 onion, cut into strips 1 red pepper, cut into strips 1 green pepper, cut into strips 2 t. olive oil 1 1/2 t. chili powder 1 1/2 t. cumin 1 t. paprika 1/2 t. garlic powder 1/2 t. onion powder 1/2 t. oregano 1/4 t. salt Preheat oven to 400. Toss chicken, tomato sauce and veggies and oil together in large bowl. Blend spices together and toss into chicken and vegetable mixture. Bake minutes. Serve in fajita wraps and with your favorite sides. LET S ALL GO TO THE MOVIES The Redford Theatre will be showing the 1952 musical, Singin' in the Rain, at 2 pm on Saturday, April 20. The film stars Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, and Debbie Reynolds. Tickets are $5 a person, and free parking is available in nearby, secure lots. We re organizing a group, and if you re interested, you can join us for dinner after the movie at Peterlin's Restaurant in Farmington. 6 PAGE 6 Faith Community Presbyterian Church VOLUME 42 ISSUE 03 PROM DRESS DONATION DRIVE Do you have a prom dress and/or accessories that can bring smiles to a young woman in foster care? The Heart of Detroit Faith Communities Coalition on Foster Care is collecting like-new items at the Monday, March 4, foster care meeting in Plymouth. These items will be passed along to young women who otherwise might not be able to attend prom. Please leave dresses (on hangers) and accessories (jewelry, shoes) in the narthex coat clos- et. The sermon this morning: Jesus Walks on the Water. The sermon tonight: Searching for Jesus. Ladies, don't forget the rummage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands. Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our community. Smile at someone who is hard to love. Say 'Hell' to someone who doesn't care much about you. Don't let worry kill you off - let the Church help. Miss Charlene Mason sang 'I will not pass this way again,' giving obvious pleasure to the congregation. For those of you who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery down stairs Next Thursday there will be tryouts for the choir. They need all the help they can get. Irving Benson and Jessie Carter were married on October 24 in the church. So ends a friendship that began in their school days. A bean supper will be held on Tuesday evening in the church hall. Music will follow. At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be 'What Is Hell?' Come early and listen to our choir practice. Eight new choir robes are currently needed due to the addition of several new members and to the deterioration of some older ones.
