2 Beloved, Siku Ya Afrika! We pause to worship God and edify each other by embracing, educating, and extolling the identity of Africa. Being both historic and history making is an essential point of intersection for Bethany and Africa. Today we celebrate the 25 th Anniversary of Africa Day by looking in multiple directions. As we look backwards, we honor Africa as one of the earliest places of cultural civilization. Evidence of its intellectual prowess is in the historical documents of the Sudanese empire of Makuria, the great Pyramids in Egypt and the Obelisks. Africa s worldly contributions are undeniable. They cannot be erased in spite of centuries of violent pillaging and degradation of its people and natural resources-including the African American history of enslavement. As we look at the Africa of today and forward toward tomorrow, we find a continent that is not, and has never been, monolithic. Its 11.0M square miles constitutes over 54 countries and governments, with over 500 different languages spoken by a population of over 1.2 billion people. Africa still has amazing geographical wonders such as the flowing waters of the Blue Nile and the breath taking reserves of the Oviston Nature Reserve. In reality, there may not be vibranium, but there is still oil, diamonds, gold and nuclear ore. Indeed, many parts of Africa are still in troubling situations but those facts do not hold ownership of her narrative. Africa s narrative is so rich that even God chose it as a sanctuary. Hosea 11:1, out of Egypt I called my son. God did not look down upon Africa with shame-nor do we. The old saying is that when the colonizers came to Africa, Africans had the land the colonizers had the bible. When the colonizers left, they had the land and the Africans had the bible. Join us today as we celebrate Africa and its children having it all, the land-the bible and the Lord. With a Shepherd s Love, Pastor Lacey

4 ( ) Our fathers and mothers came here, lived, loved, struggled and built here. At this place, their love and labor rose like the sun and gave strength and meaning to the day. For them, then, who gave so much we give in return. On this same soil we will sow our seeds, and liberation and a higher level of human life. May our eyes be the eagle, our strength be the elephant, and the boldness of our life be like the lion. And may we remember and honor our ancestors and the legacy they left for as long as the sun shines and the waters flow. For our people everywhere then: Leader: For Shaka, Samory, and Nzingha and all the others known and unknown who defended our ancestral land, history and humanity from alien invaders; Leader: For Garvey, Muhammed, Malcolm and King; Harriet, Fannie Lou, Sojourner, Bethune, Nat Turner and all the others who dared to define, defend and develop our interests as a people; Leader: For our children and the fuller and freer lives they will live because we struggled; Leader: For our late Pastor, Dr. William A. Jones, Jr., who instituted this day of special worship, commemoration and enlightenment and for our family members, past and present, who supported us along the way; Leader: And for our current Pastor, Dr. Adolphus C. Lacey, who will lead in the struggle to build; And for the continuing struggle through which we will inevitably rescue and reconstruct our history and humanity in our own image and according to our own needs.
5 RIGHT HAND OF FELLOWSHIP CANDIDATES ANDREA J. ARCHER ~ ELIZABETH BERMUDEZ ~ MYRA TOOMBS MORNING SCRIPTURE JOSHUA 17:14-18 (NIV) 14 The people of Joseph said to Joshua, Why have you given us only one allotment and one portion for an inheritance? We are a numerous people, and the LORD has blessed us abundantly. 15 If you are so numerous, Joshua answered, and if the hill country of Ephraim is too small for you, go up into the forest and clear land for yourselves there in the land of the Perizzites and Rephaites. 16 The people of Joseph replied, The hill country is not enough for us, and all the Canaanites who live in the plain have chariots fitted with iron, both those in Beth Shan and its settlements and those in the Valley of Jezreel. 17 But Joshua said to the tribes of Joseph to Ephraim and Manasseh You are numerous and very powerful. You will have not only one allotment 18 but the forested hill country as well. Clear it, and its farthest limits will be yours; though the Canaanites have chariots fitted with iron and though they are strong, you can drive them out. CHORAL CALL TO PRAYER Kumbaya Kumbaya, my Lord Kumbaya. (3x) O Lord, Kumbaya) Somebody's praying, Lord Kumbaya Can't live without You Lord, Kumbaya) HYMN OF PRAISE "EWE THINA" (WE WALK HIS WAY) Chorus: Ewe Thina (4x) ('We walk His way') (4x) We welcome you as Christ has welcomed us, we walk His way (2x) We welcome you to share this feast with us, we walk His way (2x) Come to the table where we all are fed, we walk His way (2x)
