2 Beloved, A lie repeated a thousand times becomes a truth Joseph Goebbels. Nazi Minister of Propaganda (Information). The shameful function of propaganda is to give alternative facts, distorted statistics, and unverified anecdotes the perception of being the truth. Once this truth is accepted, it has the power of being considered good news to those that hear it. But is any of that really good news? By the standards of God, the bible, and anyone with good sense, the answer is, NO. In the New Testament, the word for good news, in Greek is εὐαγγέλιον or euaggélion, which can also be translated as the Gospel. As Christians, we know the real good news is the Power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. To all those that receive it, the gospel is: Jesus has the power to save, deliver, liberate, heal, unite, transform, comfort and keep us through our toughest of times. In 1 Thessalonians 1:4-10, Paul let us know that the gospel comes not simply with words, but also with power. It is a reminder that Christ is always with us and we have access to God s power. Now that is real good news that is true and worth spreading. I pray that you feel God s power as we live out Romans 1:16, and unashamedly proclaim the good news of God s power everyday, everywhere, and to everyone who will hear it. However, if you want real life-changing power, continue this Year exploring God s power at work in you. Prayer Meeting Youth Night LITTLE KNOWN FACTS ABOUT LIFT EVERY VOICE AND SING Many people are surprised to learn that "Lift Every Voice and Sing" was first written as a poem. Created by James Weldon Johnson, it was performed for the first time by 500 African-American school children in celebration of President Lincoln's Birthday on February 12, 1900 in Jacksonville, FL. The poem was set to music by Johnson's brother, John Rosamond Johnson, and soon adopted by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) as its official song. Today Lift Every Voice and Sing is one of the most cherished songs of the African American Civil Rights Movement and is often referred to as the Black National Anthem.
