3 St. Charles Borromeo Church November 25, 2018 SUNDAY COLLECTION November 18, 2018 Offertory Collection $14, ACH / Online / Credit Card 2, Total $16, Campaign for Human Development $ Seminary Assessment $ Many thanks!!! THE LITTLE BLUE BOOK Once again this year we have available copies of an Advent/ Christmas seasonal prayer reflection booklet entitled, The Little Blue Book. These are published by the Diocese of Saginaw and contain helpful daily entries to serve as an aid to prayer. Anyone interested in a copy of The Little Blue Book (Advent/Christmas 2018 edition) is asked to stop at the Parish Office. Limited supply available. The offering is $1.00. MONTH OF NOVEMBER Book of the Dead As has become our tradition at St. Charles, we will be displaying the Book of the Dead in the area of the Holy Family Shrine of church during the month of November. You are invited to inscribe in the book, names of any and all deceased loved ones you wish others to remember in prayer. ADVENT GIVING TREE DRIVERS NEEDED Drivers are needed to help deliver Advent Giving Tree gifts on Sunday, December 16 th, to Malachi House, Providence House and the Edna House. Come to the church at 1:00pm where we will be sorting the gifts. Please leave your name at the Parish Office or call Brian Pelcin (440) if you need more information or have questions. As a nation, we continue to enjoy this Thanksgiving weekend. We have tackled the leftovers, I m sure, and we have just about finished off that turkey and all the other tasty things from last Thursday s dinner. As a Church, we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King, reminding us that another year in the Church s life is coming to an end. This year s Sunday Gospels have been from St Mark, the Evangelist who emphasizes the Humanity of Jesus. Next weekend we will celebrate the First Sunday of Advent, the gateway to the Church s New Year. For the next twelve months, our Sunday Gospels will be from St Luke; it is often called the Gospel of Charity. Only St Luke shares with us those two most beloved parables, The Good Samaritan and The Prodigal Son. At this time of year, there is a tremendous spirit of charity and generosity. I am always so impressed with the number of parishioners who offer to help others in significant ways: providing holiday meals, sponsoring Christmas gifts for a needy family, helping with tuition, and the list could go on. To help direct that spirit of helping and giving, we began our Advent Giving Tree almost thirty years ago. Each year we select four places that promote life values from conception to grave. We ask for their Wish Lists. We share those Lists with the parish, collect the gifts, and then deliver them on the Third Sunday of Advent: December 16. This year we will help Providence House, a crisis nursery for those newborn to five years old; Edna House, providing a safe and secure environment for women determined to overcome addictions; West Side Catholic Center, providing the needy with food, clothing, shelter, and advocacy; Malachi House of Hope, offering hospice care for the dying homeless. In this bulletin, you will find a flyer: St Charles Borromeo 2018 Advent Giving Tree. It has a great deal of information; please pick the place you want to help. Purchase your gift and leave that gift before the Holy Family or Blessed Mother Shrines in our church. Gifts will be sorted and delivered on Sunday, December 16, at 1:00pm. Clip-and-keep the December Parish Activities Calendar found in this weekend s bulletin. I will continue to ask you to buy your groceries and gas with St Charles Shopping Gift Certificates. You can also do the rest of your shopping with our Gift Certificates in addition to giving them as gifts. Stop by the Parish Office for details. Last call for those who might want to spend twelve days in Ireland during the last two weeks of June 2019! Non-parishioner friends and family are also most welcome. Please call the Parish Office by Friday November 30, with your name, contact information, and the number of those in your party. I ll get back to you with the facts and figures. This Thanksgiving weekend is a fitting time to extend thanks and appreciation to the tremendous number of St Charles parishioners who regularly practice the corporal works of mercy: our St Vincent de Paul Society, Cyrenians, Dismas Ministry, those who staff and maintain our Emergency Food Pantry, the Second Thursday Holy Name Parish Hot Meal workers, and those who volunteer at St Malachi, St Augustine in Tremont, West Side Catholic Center, and the list could go on, but I m out of space! You did it for me says the Lord!
