GUIDE BOOK & DIRECTORY ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITY We are in the process of updating our annual Guide Book & Directory for the church. This book will contain everything pertinent to our church: the various ministries, organizations, committees, activities, functions and events plus a complete directory of all members. This book is being provided and direct-mailed to each family at no cost to our church, and it is again being subsidized by local businesses that advertise. If you own or manage a business and would like to find out about advertising in our book, please call the Parish Office. Recent survey results by Guide Book Publishing show that 92.1% of families would rather patronize a Guide Book & Directory advertiser over a non-advertiser. It will pay to advertise in our new Guide Book & Directory. If you do not want your telephone number listed in the Directory, now is the time to call the Parish Office (440) and let us know. Please note that any changes requested are included in the current edition only. Monday, August 15, is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Mother. However, since in 2016 this feastday occurs on a Monday, there is no obligation to attend Mass this year. But for those who would like to observe the day, there will be three daily Masses: at 7:00, 8:30am and at 7:00pm. Our summer seminarian, Peter Bang, has been with us since mid-may. He returns to the seminary this Monday, August 15, for his final year of theology studies. If all goes well--and we are sure it will--peter will be ordained a deacon (along with St Charles parishioner James Cosgrove and six others) on Saturday, October 22. During the fall, Peter will be with us one day per week. In January 2017, he will join us weekly from Saturday to Monday evening. Peter and his classmates anticipate priestly ordination in May. The summer days are quickly moving along. St Charles School principal, Mrs Updegrove, tells me that there are still a few seats available in pre-school, kindergarten and in grades one to six. For details, please call the School Office, Please pass this information on to others who might be interested. It s hard to believe, but three months from now we will be preparing for Thanksgiving. A few days ago, I met with some folks from the Catholic Community Foundation and they shared with me an initiative that they are sponsoring. It is called #We Give Catholic. Thanksgiving Day is always on a Thursday. The day after is now known as Black Friday. After the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, we have Cyber Monday. So that s one day for giving thanks and two days for purchasing gifts for others. And then comes #Giving Tuesday, now considered a global day of giving back. Several communities have emphasized #Giving Tuesday as a time to show generosity to non-profit, religious, and charitable organizations. The Foundation has asked St Charles to take part as a pilot parish. #Giving Tuesday will be November 29, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. On that day, secure, tax-deductible donations will be accepted on wegivecatholic.org. Participating Catholic parishes, schools, Catholic Charities sites/programs, and other Catholic non-profits affiliated with the Diocese of Cleveland will benefit. I suspect we will hear a lot more about this on-line endeavor in the months to come. But for now, remember November 29 as #Giving Tuesday and the day for #we Give Catholic. St Charles Church and School will participate on that day.

If your child would like to learn about God and His love in a fun, ageappropriate setting, consider signing them up for Sunday morning Pre-School. The class meets from 10:30-11:30, during the Sunday 10:30am mass in our school building. Cost for the class is $25 for the first child and $35 for a family. If you have any questions, please contact the PCRF office at PILGRIMAGE TO SHRINE Join us on Sunday, August 21 st for a pilgrimage to Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine in Euclid, Ohio. The Sisters of the Most Holy Trinity will lead the Stations of the Cross at 3:00pm and Rosary at 4:00pm. These are outdoor events so be prepared for sun and for uneven ground. 7 Welcome Back to Saint Charles Borromeo Parish School School Year - Called to be Faithful FAMILY FOLDERS: The folders that contain significant information and forms for the opening of the school year will be available for pick up in the school office beginning Monday, August 15 from 7:30 AM until 3:30 PM (*** Note expanded time from originally stated) as well as during Curriculum Night. Contents of the folder will be on the website beginning August 16. Class lists will only be posted on Ascend SMS for grades one through grade eight. God has not called me to be successful.
