Today s Feast invites us to live in the awareness of the presence of the Triune God within us: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Life is full of mysteries. Science has tried to understand and explain facts and reality but it cannot explain mysteries. The human body is a reality, but human life is a mystery. People are also a mystery. We cannot completely understand people around us, the people we are living with, or even ourselves. Yet, many people are thinking that they should understand God who is the Creator of all things. God is the Mystery of all mysteries. All His works are mysteries. The Church professes her faith in the mystery of the Trinitarian God. When we come to worship, or to begin to pray, we make the sign of the Cross in the name of the Trinity: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit to remind us about the identity of the God whom we believe in. God the Father is the Creator of the world. He created you and me. God the Son saves the world. He died for you, me and for everyone else. We are limited in time and space. We are not able to know the whole truth about God; therefore, God the Holy Spirit will have to guide us to the truth. That is why Jesus is saying, I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you to all truth. So my dear brothers and sisters, do you believe in God who made all things? 3 PASTOR S MESSAGE TRINITY SUNDAY 2017 This Sunday we celebrate Trinity Sunday. This really is a happy Festival of related reasons to be joyful and grateful. The Feast of the Holy Trinity recognizes that God in God s inner being and identity is a Community of loving Persons united in essence and mutual sharing of divine life. Father, Son and Holy Spirit relate to us as different Persons in the acts of creating, redeeming and guiding us. This community of loving Persons is a model for us of how to live as Church and also as families. We are to live as communities of mutual love, support, respect and cooperation. We are to be creative and life-giving as is the Holy Trinity. By our love as churches and families, we can invite others into the loving community par excellence, the life of the Trinity that creates and sustains us with divine power, presence and life. The best way we can praise the Holy Trinity is to live in a Trinitarian manner ourselves: lives that are creative, transforming and energizing for the furtherance of the Kingdom of God. The Feast of the Blessed Trinity also teaches us that our lives are never isolated ones or solitary ones when understood through the eyes of faith. The life of God as Trinity informs and energizes all of our lives and impels us to live as a part of the social fabric of family, neighborhoods, communities, nations and the whole world. Participation and contributions to the larger society challenge the best in us to make a difference for the greater good, the entire human family. Selfishness, factionalism and unhealthy competitions and envy and jealousies impede God s plan for a true loving communion in our time. The Trinity is a powerful symbol and a life giving reality that is a vision for the life of the Kingdom of God. May we all be open to the creative life of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit within us! Come Indwelling Trinity and renew the face of the earth! - Msgr. Michael D. McGraw JUNE 11 ST. JOAN OF ARC 3

5 FROM THE SJA HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH MINISTRY DIRECTOR IT S A TIME FOR GRADUATION, CONGRATULATIONS, AND REST! To all the graduating 8th graders from St. Joan of Arc, I know many of you are nervous about leaving your friends but excited as you continue your academic journeys in new schools. We will see you all again soon as we prepare for Confirmation. Everyone is encouraged to continue their spiritual journey, which started with the Edge, by joining the high school group, the SpArk. The SpArk hosts meetings, social outings, and participates in community service projects such as beach cleanups and Youth vs Hunger. Follow us on Facebook or for upcoming events and updates. To all the recently graduated seniors from the SpArk, I wish you all the best in your journey ahead. While I ve only known you for a short while, I ve been amazed by your maturity and faith. Even though your college and career plans will take you far from home, I trust you will meet every challenge and surpass every obstacle. If you are ever home for the holidays, please know that the doors at the Ark are always open for you. The young adult ministry, the Light, will also extend a warm welcome. This summer while you are taking a well deserved break and vacationing, remember to make time for God priority in your daily schedule. Here are some ideas to keep your faith strong this summer: Start your day with prayer and thank God for one area of your life. Change from your usual radio stations and listen to uplifting Christian worship. Invite a friend to Church, afterward discuss the homily and readings. They may pick up on a message that you missed! Find a Bible verse to reflect on and live out weekly. Bring a small notebook to Church. Take notes on what the priest says during the homily or write any message that you think God is trying to tell you. Go to morning Mass on Wednesday for a mid-week spiritual pick me up. So be careful how you live. Don t live like fools, but like those who are wise. - Ephesians 5:15 Have a great summer! Valerie Bryant SJA High School Youth Ministry Director JUNE 11 ST. JOAN OF ARC 5

7 NOVENA OF MASSES f or Father s Day JUNE 18-26, 2017 If it were right and fi tting to pay tribute to all Mothers, equally it is right and fi tting to pay tribute to all Fathers. And we should do this not just on their assigned feast days but preferably as long as they live as a sign of our love and gratitude for all they have done in our lives. When Israel was a child, I loved him... I taught Ephraim to walk... It was I who healed them. I led them with cords of human kindness, with ties of love... and I bent down to feed them. HOSEA 11:1-4 According to common practices, it is still the necktie that is the top priority gift followed by wrist watches, wallets, electronic devices, and sports-related items. Yes, no doubt, these gifts are truly fi ne and appreciable but there is still a better gift: A NOVENA OF MASSES thus ensuring them of eternal riches where no moth could destroy nor thieves could steal. Your generous offering of a special remembrance in prayer and Holy Mass on the occasion of Father s Day will serve to show our appreciation and support to our Dads. Please pick up an envelope at the church credenzas, fi ll them in and place in the collection basket or bring them into the Parish Offi ce. May St. Joseph, foster Father of Jesus, bless and protect our beloved Fathers. Thank You for your generosity. JUNE 11 ST. JOAN OF ARC 7

JOAN OF ARC STEP 1 Gather your information about your assets, including retirement funds, bank accounts and real property. STEP 2 Choose the type of bequest you d like to make. 1. Unrestricted bequest. This is a donation to be used for St. Joan of Arc general funds. This donation would be used where it is most needed. 2. Restricted bequest. This donation specifies how the money is to be used. (This could be restricted to go into the endowment, a specific ministry, or the building fund.) A bequest can be made in a number of ways: A specific dollar amount. Specific assets, such as securities, real estate, or tangible property. Retirement account assets, consisting of any benefits remaining in your retirement plan. A residuary bequest, St. Joan of Arc receives all or a percentage of your estate after all other obligations are met. An existing will or trust can be easily amended to include a gift to St. Joan of Arc without rewriting the entire document. Your attorney can prepare a simple document, called a codicil, which adds a new bequest while reaffirming the terms of your will. Similarly, an attorney can prepare an amendment to a revocable trust to add St. Joan of Arc. STEP 3 Meet with your estate planning attorney. If you need to create a will or just update your existing document, you ll want to get advice from your estate planning attorney. An attorney can advise you as to the best way to structure your will in order to take care of your loved ones first and then your charitable interests while assuring the best tax benefits. As a charitable, not-for-profit all bequests to St. Joan of Arc are fully deductible for estate tax purposes. HOME CONNECTION: 2017 July 6 Aug. 3 Sept. 7 On Trinity Sunday, we hear one of the clearest descriptions of the Trinity from the words from St. Paul: The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you. (2 Corinthians 13:13) St. Augustine of Hippo, one of the Doctors of the Church, spent many years writing a treatise on the mystery The Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, three persons in one God. Still, it is said that he encountered a young boy on a beach trying fill a hole in the sand with all the water from the sea who told him that it was similar to the human mind trying to understand the mystery of the Trinity because the human mind cannot contain the immensity of the Trinity. When we begin and end our prayers with the Sign of the Cross, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we remember the mystery of the Trinity three persons in one God.
