4 Confirmation Class 2018 Confirmation Class has historically been offered in the United Methodist Church to help young people learn more about God and what it means to be a disciple of Jesus as well as helping them learn about the church and make a decision for Christ and ultimately joining the church as a full member. This Spring we will be offering a Confirmation Class during the Sunday School hour (10:05-10:50) for all 6 th, 7 th and 8 th graders. Pastor Tony will lead this class and it will be held in the Middle School Sunday School Class Room. The regular SS teachers, Donna Cook and Jenny Bickerstaff, will continue to be present as well. Confirmation Class begins Sunday, March 4 th, and will conclude just before Memorial Day weekend in May with a Confirmation Ceremony during worship. All Middle School students are encouraged and invited to attend. 5 Cold Springs Preschool is open for registration for the school year. We have a wonderful, caring preschool and would love the opportunity to have your 1-5 year old enrolled. A registration form is on our website coldspringsumc.org, then click the preschool tab. Please call and Carol Hendry, the Preschool Director, will be happy to schedule a tour or answer questions. Discerning the Voice of God Bible Study for Men and Women Starting on Wed. March 7th at 6:45 in Conference Room #3, we will begin a 7-week DVD study by Priscilla Shirer on Discerning the Voice of God. This study will be open to men and women, couples or individuals. Have you ever heard a voice speaking to you and wondered if it was God or were you just dreaming? Have you felt a nudge within your soul, but could not decide if it was just your thoughts and emotions or something more? God loves you and desires a personal relationship with you. He wants to speak directly to you. But do you recognize His voice? This study helps you know if what you hear is from God. Through this study you will become more familiar with God's Holy Spirit, His character, His language, and the tone of His voice. This is an opportunity to discover the root to clear and daily communication with God - humble obedience. To learn how to surrender unlocks His many blessings intended for us, centers us in His will, and helps us discern His voice in everyday life. You are invited to come be part of this journey with others who are seeking to learn and grow in His holy Word. The deadline for signing up will be February 25. 6 Attention Parents of 2 nd -3 rd Graders Beginning Sunday, February 18 th we consolidated a few of our children s Sunday School classes. All 2 nd Graders will go to the classroom where Nancy Kluttz and Leslie Gray teach. Their room will now be for children in Kindergarten 2 nd grade. All 3 rd Graders will go to the classroom where Brenda Long and Tinker Beaver teach. Their room will now be for children in 3 rd -5 th grade.

7 The Cubs and Boys Scouts of Cold Springs UMC are fundraising for their various events/trips and they will be sponsoring the meals. Meals will be served from 5:30pm 7:00pm. Please indicate on the weekly attendance sheet or call t h e c h u r c h o f f i c e (adminassist@coldspringsumc.or g or ) by noon on Mondays to sign up. February 28: Chicken & Dumplings, Cornbread M.Y. Heart's ministry is collecting supplies to make blessing bags for the homeless. These items include such things as pocket Bibles, travel shampoos, conditioners, soap, and other necessities. A green bin is located under the mailboxes in the hallway behind the sanctuary and in the narthex. A list of other items are located on the flyer at these collection bins. If you have questions about this new outreach, Julie Love at jaxandcb@yahoo.com. For several years, United Methodist Women have made and donated Easter Baskets to Mt. Pleasant Food Ministry. We would like to collect enough supplies to make 60 baskets this year. We need to have them ready by Sunday, February 25. If you would like to help, below is a list of items needed or a monetary donation will be used to purchase these items. Collection boxes will be in the back hall or donations should be marked as UMW Easter Basket project and placed in the offering or given to church office. Thank you for giving to the children of our community. For additional information or questions, contact Annette Hammill (704) Needed items: individually wrapped candy, stickers, pencils, glue sticks, toothbrushes, bubbles, small party-favor toys, etc. For uniformity, monetary donations will be used to purchase: baskets, small stuffed animals, chocolate crosses, crayons, and plastic eggs. The board of Trustees needs your help to ensure proper maintenance of our buildings and grounds. We appreciate any notification on areas, structures or items that need repair or replacement. If you have any concerns please call the church office at or Angela at adminassist@coldspringsumc.org and she will contact the Trustees. This central line of communication will allow the committee to have better oversight of all that needs to be done and provides documentation for the church in respect to ongoing projects.

9 Metro District Lay Servant Training Lay Servant Training will be offered on three weekends throughout the Metro District this year. Basic and Advanced courses will be offered at all locations. The Basic Course in Spanish will be offered at the Central UMC (Charlotte) location only. Registration AND Payments MUST be submitted online. You must have your pastor s approval to participate! Please be sure you have this prior to registering. Once your registration has been submitted, an will be sent to your pastor confirming approval. COST: $30 (Includes light lunch on Saturday) DATES & TIMES: ALL Saturday classes 8:30am - 4:00pm ALL Sunday classes 2:00pm - 6:45pm April 7 & 8 North Davidson UMC (1025 E. 36 th Street, Charlotte, NC) April 14 & 15 Pineville UMC (110 S. BASIC Lay Speaking Ministries. The required beginning course for local lay servant certification. Course topics: Leading, caring, communication, serving. This course offers guidelines for best practices as a church leader and outlines a number of ministries in which lay servants may assume roles. BASIC SPANISH (For Spanish Speaking Participants) OFFERED ONLY ON APRIL 28 & 29 ADVANCED TRANSFORMING EVANGELISM - This course leads participants to learn from John Wesley how to practice relational evangelism. They will discover that evangelism involves not only sharing our faith with others but also welcoming people into a community where they can grow in faith. ADVANCED TRANSFORMING COMMUNITY - This course teaches the Wesleyan way to form missional communities and congregations. It is based on the conviction that just as holiness of heart leads to holiness of life, it is communities of holy love that participate in God s mission in the world.

10 It may seem a long way off, but Vacation Bible School is being planned! If you would like to spend some time with the children in learning about miracles involving water or play games or make crafts or help with check in/name tags and 50 other things, then you are needed. TEACHERS: Unless you are using something already for recording Sunday School weekly attendance, there are Sunday School attendance sheets on top of the wooden box beside the mail boxes. You may pick them up for recording weekly attendance. Please put them in the slot of the wooden box or drop them in the offering plate each week.
