2 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. -Mark 8:34 NIV In this portion of the Gospel of Mark, Jesus is teaching His disciples about what it means to be His follower. In verse 34, Jesus teaches self denial, something with which our culture is unfamiliar. His point is that nothing should come between Christ and His people. Family, friends, hobbies, possessions if anything divides our allegiance or pulls us away from Jesus, we need to deny our earthly desires and let it go. Christ comes first. As we are to be prepared to leave some people and things behind, Jesus reminds us to pick something else up. Our cross. This cross represents all the challenges we will face in this life as a result of our faith in Jesus. Mockery, persecution, possibly even death. It may seem like a lot for Jesus to ask but the blessings of eternal life will so far outweigh the challenges of this life that they aren t even worth comparing. Jesus gave His life so that we could live. He asks us to deny ourselves when we must and cling to Him so that together we will spend eternity in the presence of pure our loving God. Stewardship News from Tim Peters During the week of November 18th you should have received a mailing outlining the 2019 Stewardship Drive. Our ultimate goal is for everyone to participate! Inside the envelop was a letter and Stewardship Commitment Form. You'll have the opportunity to bring the Commitment Form forward during the service on Sunday, December 2nd. Please prayerfully consider your contributions for Extra letters and Commitment Forms are available on the back kiosk. If you are unable to attend church on that day you can either place the Commitment Form in the offering plate or mail to the church to arrive by Monday, December 10th. Advent Meal Schedule: 12/5- BOD 12/12- Choir 12/19- Congregational potluck sign up on back kiosk or go to Christmas Cookies exchange Saturday at Vernone's house. Please bring 4 dozen cookies on a paper plate wrapped with saran (12 cookies on each plate). Sign up by going to or on the back kiosk. Caroling All are welcome to join us! We will sing first at the Summit Place on Dec 20th, 8501 Flying Cloud Drive in Eden Prairie. Please arrive anytime after 5:45 PM to be prepared to sing at 6:00. From there we will go to Edendale, Main St.in EP and arrive about 6:50 PM. Following the caroling, refreshments will be enjoyed at Vernone s house, 6107 Sunny Road in Minnetonka. Flowers for the Altar Please sign up to donate flowers for the altar it is a great way to celebrate a special occasion. You can sign up on the back kiosk or online by Financial Secretary Position This position is opening up and we will need to fill this position. Job description: Supervise the opening of all contribution envelopes Keep an accurate record of all individual gifts Deposit all contributions and church receipts Provide the Communicant Membership with quarterly reports of contributions made Provide Communicant Members offering envelopes annually Provide to the treasurer a weekly tabulation of offerings received Financial Secretary shall be bonded Page 6

If there is a special occasion or event or you d just like to beautify the sanctuary, please sign up and let Kay Peters know your arrangement preference (quantity, color, type, price). Tote Bags/Bulletins Tote bags for the younger children are available on the rack in back. Please feel free to use one during the worship service and then return it when done. Children s bulletins are available on the round table by the church entrance. They are directed at ages 3-6. Although children of all ages will enjoy them. Victory Prayer Chain Victory has an Prayer Chain which will lift your specific requests up to God for you. Those who receive the will prayerfully support you in your need with His comfort, love and strength. If you let Pastor or the church office know, your prayer request will be forwarded. May we cast our cares unto Him whose yoke is easy and whose burden is light.
