4 FAITH FORMATION Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) Advent is coming what will be our response? The time of preparation begins deep within our hearts. What does that look like? How can we begin to prepare? Is it making time to relax near a fire to take a walk to clear our mind to spend time with family by simply being fully present for one another, no distractions? Could these be ways that God is leading us to a more awakened sense of preparation and celebration of the birth of His Son? How will you and your family begin to prepare? Youth Ministry Youth Ministry sessions are held on Sunday evenings in the St. Cecilia room and the lounge from 5-7pm. If your child is not already registered, registration forms are available on the website or in the parish office. National Catholic Youth Conference A pilgrimage of faith, the National Catholic Youth Conference is an exciting, biennial three-day experience of prayer, community and empowerment for Catholic teenagers, addressing a wide variety of topics including Catholic spirituality and prayer, social justice issues, sexuality and leadership. We are now accepting registrations to join our Diocesan pilgrimage. Information is available at: and on the YM bulletin board in the lounge. Please contact the parish office to register. Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe Gospel: ~John 18:33b-37~ REFLECTION: Jesus acknowledges to Pilate that he is a King, but he clarifies that his Kingship is not of this world (John 18:36). This scene with Pilate recalls to us the multiplication of the bread and fish from John s Gospel; after this miracle, the people wanted to make Jesus their king. Jesus perceived this desire and withdrew from them (John 6:15). If Jesus was really their King, as He tells Pilate, why did he not allow the people to declare him King? The reason is that the people wanted a political and material kingship, but Christ came to give them so much more: a spiritual kingship. Those who had received bread and fish from Jesus thought of his Kingdom in worldly terms, but as Jesus tells Pilate, his kingdom is not of this world. As St. Paul said, The Kingdom of God is not a matter of eating or drinking, but of justice, peace, and the joy that is given by the Holy Spirit (Rom 14:17). Truth is also associated with Christ s Kingdom: The reason I was born, the reason why I came into the world, is to testify to the truth. Anyone committed to the truth hears my voice. Thus, Jesus dominion extends over those who seek and follow the truth. One is reminded of those words of Jesus, You shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free (John 8:32). Indeed, Christ himself is the truth: I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:16). Thus, God is the source of all truth, and everything is thereby under the Kingship of Chris.. In his first encyclical, Redemptor Hominis, Pope John Paul II stated that Christ came to witness to the truth, which means that it is also the mission of the Church. The truth of Jesus Christ will fully liberate man, not mere political or legal measures. 7 STEWARDSHIP Stewardship Support Campaign PARISH SUPPORT PROGRAM: 22.05% and still counting! As of 11/13/2018, we received responses from 146 of our parishioners. This has resulted in an average parishioner gift increase rate of 18.42%. Thank you for your participation and prayers. Sincerely, Fr. Alan A Steward's Way The life of a Christian steward models the life of Jesus. It is challenging and even difficult, in many respects, yet intense joy comes to those who take the risk to live as Christian stewards. Women and men who seek to live as stewards learn that "all things work for good for those who love God" (Rom 8:28). After Jesus, we look to Mary as an ideal steward. As the Mother of Christ, she lived her ministry in a spirit of fidelity and service; she responded generously to the call. We must ask ourselves: Do we also wish to be disciples of Jesus Christ and Christian stewards of our world and our Church? Central to our human and Christian vocations, as well as to the unique vocation each one of us receives from God, is that we be good stewards of the gifts we possess. God gives us this divine-human workshop, this world and Church of ours. The Spirit shows us the way. Stewardship is a part of that journey.
