4 FAITH FORMATION Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Entering fully into the mystery of the relationship that each of us has been called to by name in Baptism, we reflect on God s never ending love for us in the parable of the Good Shepherd. This material is found in all three levels of the atria. In Level I, the material is found centered in the atrium. It is here where the very youngest children find joy in being called by name by the Good Shepherd. As the relationship grows with in the child ages six to nine, Jesus calls the child to remain in Him. The children encounter the Good Shepherd in the Eucharistic Presence. They also look more closely at the gestures and prayers of the Mass particular to the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Once the child has entered into the Level III atrium, he or she explores the dynamics of the prayers of consecration, along with the structure of the Mass itself. Relationship is the key to the essential message: God s love is never-ending. We are ultimately called into the celebration of the sacrament of Eucharist and to live out our baptismal promises every day of our lives. Youth Ministry will meet on Sunday, April 22nd from 5:00-7:00 pm in the lounge. Catholic Lighthouse Media Night. Catholic Youth Day at Cedar Point Attention all parish youth currently in Grades 5-12! You are invited to join the Diocesan Office for Evangelization and Faith Formation on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 for an exciting Diocesan Youth trip to Cedar Point amusement park in Ohio. Registration deadline is June 14 or whenever the buses are filled. Contact the parish office for details or visit CedarPoint. Registration is now open. Plan to enjoy this FUN-FILLED day! Gospel ~ John 10:11-18~ REFLECTION: In this passage, Jesus uses the analogy of a shepherd to characterize his deep love and concern for the people as opposed to the Pharisees who are more concerned with the Law. Jesus has just given sight to a man blind from birth and who the Pharisees subsequently persecute shamefully. With the claim I am the Good Shepherd, Jesus evokes the words that God spoke from the burning bush to Moses in Exodus 3:14 and thereby asserts his spiritual authority. He then proves his care and concern for the people by his readiness to lay down his life for them not merely by risking it. In contrast, the Pharisees show no true concern for the people; they are like hired hands who quit their post at the first sign of trouble. Jesus flock is not limited to the chosen ones of Israel. Jesus is ready to lay down his life for anyone who will accept his sacrificial offering on the Cross, even the Gentiles and all of us today. We have assurance that we are called to be part of his flock since we know that God wills everyone to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4). However, like the Jews, we also must hear Jesus call and be willing to respond. As the Good Shepherd, Jesus desires an intimate relationship with his sheep, modelled after the relationship that he has with the Father. Although Jesus has authority, there is an inter-dependence based on love and obedience. Jesus hears and freely responds to the command of the Father to lay down his life and to pick it up again. We too are called to hear his voice and respond in obedience to the great love that he shows us in laying down his life for us. 7 TIME, TALENT AND TREASURE How am I called to Serve? Mother Teresa of Calcutta has been credited with saying We can do no great things only small things with much love. And so it was on a Sunday in April in the parking lot of the Newman Center where small acts changed and enriched my life more than I could have imagined possible. It was pouring rain and I was attempting to hurry three reluctant little girls out of the car when out of nowhere a gentleman and his umbrella appeared with a Good Morning. I m glad you re here. Let me help you and the children? His wife, no longer under the umbrella, stood across the parking lot at the entrance holding the door open and just as warmly welcomed us. Who offers a complete stranger and her dawdling children their umbrella and welcomes them? As we entered the church, we found the pews full and another couple motioned to us to join them. As they slid further into the pew, all the while smiling, I couldn t help but think Who willingly offers to slide to the center of the pew for a mother and three wet children? In time, I came to realize it was the quiet voice of God working through Leonard and Gloria DeFabo and Sam and Sarah Furguiele. That was more than 25 years ago and through the years, I have found many small things I could do for our parish and in return have been blessed with the friendship of many. We are all called to be God s hands to serve each other, to give of our time, talent and treasure. For me giving of the treasure was straight forward drop an envelope in the offertory basket. Giving of time and talent was a challenge when you re convinced you have neither. It all started with Would you help with our Advent reception? from Father Bill McGuirk. I had been praying about how I could give back to the parish and this was the needed push. Along the way, I ve found more time than I knew I had and discovered new talents too. I ve helped organize Brown Bag Sundays, baked bread for Eucharist, flipped Pancakes at Midnight, participated in Pathways, created materials for CGS, and greeted at Mass. You can now find me serving as Sacristan, sharing our faith with the children in the Atria, serving on the finance council, helping at the book sale, coordinating the Easter Vigil reception, and saying yes. Hello, I m Angie Quinn. If like me, you find yourself praying about service, take the leap and say yes. You ll be amazed at the great things God can do through your small things. Total Pledged: $67, Diocesan Goal: $53, Number of Gifts: 182 STEWARDSHIP STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE April 15, 2018 Adult: $5, Children: $3.00 Loose: $ Total Regular Weekly Collection: $9, Utilities: $60.00 Catholic Accent: $20.00
